The Special One Doesn’t Think Lyon Is That Special…

By: Inara | Comments 6 Comments

France Football magazine, Lyon’s #1 enemy, recently revealed the fact that Jean-Michel Aulas had offered Jose Mourinho the coaching position at Lyon.
Apparently, Aulas approached the Special One with the offer of heading Lyon’s long term project, which is to win the Champions League within two to three years. Unsurprisingly, Mourinho said, “No thanks, I’m [...]

Lille-Lyon Will Shatter Ligue 1 Attendence Records

By: Inara | Comments 12 Comments

This Saturday, the Stade de France will be celebrating their 10 year anniversary, as well as France’s 1998 World Cup victory. In conjunction with the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP), they have decided to mark the occasion by scheduling a French league game at France’s national stadium.
Of the ten league games scheduled to take [...]

Top 50 Football Player Salaries in the World

By: Inara | Comments 17 Comments

Today, a Portuguese financial website published the top 50 highest earning footballers in the world. I don’t know whether to be reassured or disappointed that Lyon have only two players on the list. Or the fact that Marseille and PSG each have a player earning more than any OL player.
Looking at the list, it’s [...]

Poll: Right Backs Playing Musical Chairs

By: Inara | Comments 9 Comments

If you’re like me, you’re undecided about who our starting right back should be. We have two good ones in Anthony Réveillère and François Clerc. They aren’t spectacular by any means, but they are solid and don’t often disappoint.
Unlike all other positions at Lyon, right back is the one position that is under nearly [...]

Toulalan Wanted To Be a Pastry Chef. Seriously.

By: Inara | Comments 8 Comments

Faithful reader Marielle sent me an article on Jeremy Toulalan that was published in the Libération this morning. It’s one of the few articles that shed light on Toulalan, who is probably Lyon’s most media shy and taciturn player. Despite playing like a bulldog with four lungs on the pitch, you’ll hardly ever see him [...]

Lyon vs. Metz

By: Inara | Comments 31 Comments

This was supposed to be posted last night, not a mere hour before the game. But that’s what happens when you forget to edit the timestamps on the posts.
Today’s match is what French media is calling “Goliath vs. David,” and they are right. I don’t know any other pair of teams that could be [...]

Aftermath: Arrests, Lasers, and Very Expensive Players

By: Inara | Comments 12 Comments

Normally I do an extensive post match review of all Champions League games, but lab has been crazy. Forgive me? In lieu of a review though, here is an assortment of news related to the game:

This is worse than a laser attack if you ask me. Stolen from Nick.

Lyon vs. Manchester United Preview

By: Inara | Comments 26 Comments

I don’t know about you guys, but I personally am not ready to face those Mancs. And neither, I think, are the players. I’m being optimistic when I say that things aren’t quite so good over at the Gerland, and it’s obvious that Lyon are nowhere near the form they should be for the Champions [...]

Le Mans vs. Lyon (Champions League Warm Up)

By: Inara | Comments 41 Comments

Time to get back to business.
Lyon will have one eye (actually, both eyes) firmly fixed on next Wednesday’s clash with Manchester United when they travel to Le Mans tomorrow. The LFP kindly pushed this fixture up to an earlier time frame, which will make recovery easier over the weekend.
I’m sure all of you [...]
