Friendly: Grenoble Foot 38 vs. Lyon

By: John | May 8th, 2009

Stade Camille Fournier d’Evian, Grenoble
Friday 8, May 2009
(17:00CET, 16:00GMT)

Today, Lyon are up in Evian to play an amicable match against one of our cross-town rivals, Grenoble. Judging by the group list and current state of crisis at OL, Puel is taking nothing lightly: not a single CFA player was called-up, and every first-team player except Santos- suspended for ten days, and probably never to set foot on OL premeses again- has made the trip. We are 100% fit for the first time since…since I can’t remember when.

Le groupe lyonnais : Lloris, Vercoutre, Hartock – Mensah, Cris, Boumsong, Réveillère, Clerc, Grosso – Makoun, Toulalan, Bodmer, Källström, Juninho – Govou, Delgado, Keita, Ederson, Pjanic, Mounier – Piquionne, Benzema.

If by chance there happens to be a stream or live blog for this, please post them here. Or if anyone hears any news of the match, please post that as well.

All this trade talk is pretty much useless if we don’t hang-onto third place. We’ll be recruiting more players from the Mexican league; some of Delgado’s ex-teamates maybe.

Lyon must try to sing Eduardo, Corluka, Drogba, Mario Gomez, Mathieu, Bastos and Gourcuff.

Line up for next season :

    Lloris
    Clerc Corluka Boumsong Mathieu
    Toulalan
    Govou Gourcuff Ederson
    Eduardo Benzema

Subs : Vercoutre, Reveillere, Mensah, Grosso, Makoun, Bodmer, Kallstrom, Pjanic, Delgado, Keita and Drogba.

This is squad without Juni and Cris. But we don’t need Cris, when you have Corluka, Boumsong and Mensah. Gourcuff is exellent sub for Juni, and we need some quality strikers just like Eduardo and Drogba. But we must try to sing Mario Gomez ( I say that milion times ). He scores 4 goals agaisnt Wolfsburg. He is prefect player. He can score with legs, head, with arm if you want, with his back, with his ass. With everything. And I hope that Puel will start to use offensive style of football.

This certainly paints a scary picture, if there’s any truth to it. And if there is any truth to it, it proves that even management doesn’t think this squad is good enough:

sidney govou-Drogba on the bench(good luck,I dont think so-that wouldnt go down well or happen at all any way Drogba is a better player than Eduardo and Benzema and you really think Drogba would come to a third place ligue 1 team no way unless the clubs name is Marseille if he leaves Chelsea hes gonna go Milan,Inter,Madrid or Marseille I suspect-plus signing Drogba is wishful thinking-and you say Im living in a fifa game-well your signings suggest that really)Now Sidney-Corluka-Boumsong are you having a laugh or what that partnership is dreadful, you have an average left back partnering Boumsong !? That partnership will be the new Bramble-Boumsong- comeon those two centre backs would get raped every game. How do you expect to sign Gourcuff ? Bordeaux will take up there option to sign him, hell stay at Milan or if those twoo dont happen(which is unlikly) hell be wanted at a bigger club than Lyon. You say You want Gomez and he doesnt even make your squad.

    More realistic would be

    Lloris
    Clerc-Zayatte-Mensah-Grosso
    Toulalan-Makoun
    Remy-Ederson-Bastos
    Benzema

    Subs-Vercoutre,Reveillere,Da Costa,Makoun,Kallstrom,Govou,Suazo

John-I reckon the claims of a clear out is bullshit although I would like it to happen, the fees we would get for those flops would be nominal and theres probably no takers for them bar mid table French clubs who will be willing to pay next to nothing. Id say Grosso would leave for 3mill

Well Ronan, I’m not soo sure how Drogba is better player then Eduardo. Or Corluka cannot play with Boumsong. One more thing – Da Costa, Zayatte? From where do you bring all this players. Lyon need couple of high rated players, not players like Da Costa.

Sidney-I didnt say to sell Kallstrom, the players I listed are players who apparently Lyon want to sell,in fact out of them Kallstrom and Grosso should stay the rest can go except Rev and Clerc maybe.Corluka-do you rate him a high rate player-Ppphh come of it hes pretty average while Zayatte has had a solid season at CB for Hull and so has Da Costa at Sampdoria-unlike Corluka who has maybe played at Cb twice this season. Drogba is Strength, height, pace,Finishing, link up play while Eduardo is pace,Finishing, linkup play and youth-so Drogba wins(although Eduardo would be a good signing

Yer but Sidney how can anyone take you seriously when you think Corluka-Boumsong will be a cl winning parnership I mean we might as well have Delgado-Keita at CB than those two and You think to have Drogba on the bench and that A=Eduardo would leave Arsenal who he loves for repairing his injury.Haa shows how much you know about football.

It’s a shame Sevilla never took Kallstrom. What were they offering? Was it 12 or 9 mill or something in the neighborhood? I wish we could give Keita away. One thing is clear: we’re going to be a very young team next year.

That’s a solid and realistic squad, if we make the CL.

Ronan: Corluka – Boumsong are better than Tamudo and Heinze. And when Eduardo recover from injury he will be better that Drogba. Drogba is just a name, he is old, and stupid player. Eduardo is elegant, smart and excellet finisher. And how much you are old?? From your words I think you have 10 maybe 11 or 12 years??

Sidney-Drogba is not just a name or old-he is a beast a man giant who centre backs loath to play against I know I would rather play against a clever and nippy Eduardo rather than a power house steamroller Drogba who is Strong, aggresive, quick, good finisher and a great header of a ball. Dont get me wrong Eduardo is a different player and also very good but just not as good as Drogba for me-who is more of a handful in most departments. Plus just dont even talk about Corluka-Boumsong because it is absolutely a disgrace of a big clubs partnership at CB,its a parnership Id expect say Auxerre or Le Mans to have. Heinze hasnt had a good season at Real but dont forget he is a versatile Argentine international who had a great time of it prior to Madrid, while Tamudo, well spanish international with 159 goals in 410 appearences just speeks for itself really-so yer he crap(I doubt it)

I think Ive come up with a good reallistic squad for next season now seriously-

    Lloris
    Clerc-Hansson-Mensah-Grosso
    Toulalan-Makoun
    Remy-Ederson-Bastos
    Benzema

The only problems I can see with that line up is a lack of pace in defence maybe, and also Bastos and Remy would have to perform as well as they have this season and more consistently which could prove diificult-theyd have to prove they were quality because if they came here and flopped we would be screwed. Possibly if the dfence did well we could bench Mak or Toul and play a partner say Suazo with Karim for more fire power.

Sidney-what do you think of Tuncay sanli as a signing, I watched a few matches with him in now hes quick, clever and non stop runner seeing as your croatian he is a similar mould to Olic very similar actually

Tuncay will be good for Lyon. As you say, he is quick, clever and non stop runner. Lyon need someone who will run ( don’t count Toula or Makoun ). I mean Lyon need someone who will run foward. We all see that Juni don’t run, not because he is old, he didn’t run much in his best days. We need just one player who is like Ederson. Tuncay, Olic, Suazo… And Ronan what do you think about Bruno Alves, Podolski and Gourcuff?? I think that we need Alves and Gourcuff.

Bruno Alves is good but wouldnt come to Lyon when he has offers from Barca and Real, plus with the current state of affairs Lyon is a come down from Porto.Podolski would be really really good but he has already agreed a move to Koln in the summer so he isnt an option and Gourcuff yer hes quality but I dont think he is a necessity as he plays in the same position as Kallstrom,Pjanic,Bodmer and Ederson as well as Juninho so it would be much better to sign a more left sided attacking midfielder like say Bastos,Tuncay,Boussouffa,Saviola or Bilyaletdinov. Anyway signing Gourcuff is vertually impossible. Suazo is a striker who could partner Benzema. Id like Petter Hansson here though and maybe Mohammed Sarr.
