Lyon 5 – 5 Marseille: Toulalan Finally Scores…an Own Goal
By: Inara | November 8th, 2009
Goals: Lyon (Pjanic 3, Govou 14, Lisandro 80, Lisandro pen 83, Bastos 90); Marseille (Diawara 11, Cheyrou 43, Kone 47, Brandao 79, Toulalan og 92)
Sanctions: Lyon (Makoun 20, Cris 54, Lisandro 86); Marseille (Niang 74, Diawara 87)
No words can adequately describe what will for sure end up being the match of the year. Both OL and OM will rue giving away stupid goals (Gabriel Heinze gave away a penalty while Jeremy Toulalan scored an own goal). If you want to read a really good recap, you can read the official version from the LFP. But I really recommend you download the match itself and watch it from start to finish (not a single boring moment, I promise you that!). For download links, see the last comment on this post. To tide you over until then, there are some extended highlights after the jump (I was also going to post photos, but the OL website has a great selection of them, so head over there and check it out).
P.S.: Toulalan must be so traumatized. After all his desperation to score a goal, when he finally does, it’s an own goal in stoppage time that snatches a much needed victory from Lyon. But that’s okay because I – and I’m sure the rest of you do too – love him anyway. *squishes Jeremy*

”Lyon want to buy Sissoko on summer”

Can you imagine a Pjanic-Toulalan-Sissokho triumverate in the midfield? I hope Cissokho’s agent convinces him that the best thing would be to go to OL before heading out for one of those bigger clubs, but if he keeps his current form up, I doubt that will happen.
I don’t see the pressing need for M’Bengue, since we already have Bastos, Kallstrom, AR, and Kolo to fill-in, but I may rue those words if the injury plague infects the LB position.
I’m also wondering about those Corchia rumors. I think AR and Gassama are good, and bringing in another young player to compete with Gassama doesn’t make sense, unless the staff don’t have confidence in him. And again, never talk about our most pressing problem, the CB position!

Matt : Thanks!
Also, I am kind of sad for Hatem Ben Arfa who just told Deschamps to f*** off (”tu me casses les c*******” for the french speakers
).I really believed Marseille was the club for him, and I am disappointed that such a talent goes to waste. I hope he can make a move this winter in another league. He needs a change of air (Villareal, Sevilla, Tottanham?). He would be popular in England I think.

Management’s decision to let that idiot go, just validates itself more and more as time goes on. And the only place that fool can play is at a lesser club where he will be allowed to start and the coach will take his shit- if…and only if- his play produces huge results. Grenoble sounds like a good spot! They’ll try anything at this point.

Wow what a fool Ben Arfa is, Just like Guti. He will never become great, though he had the potential

This is not true, right? RIGHT????

Supposedly alot of big clubs have been eying him since he’s stepped in to play cb against fiorentina, they all been impressed as we’ve been. He was always gonna leave Lyon eventually I thought

He’s under contract until 2013 so Aulas won’t sell him cheap. Maybe Aulas will cash in and get Sissoko. I’d hate to see Toul go though, he’s one of those players i’d like to see stay at Lyon till his 30’s. Besides, he can’t leave without scoring a goal because that celebration would be something to be remembered.

Lloris qualified the French NT all by himself. His value has just doubled. JMA must be happy.
I guess that Toulalan is bored at being used as CB and welcomes a transfer because of that. A shame, a pairing Toulalan Sissoko would be top notch!
Still I think he will stay 1 more season in Lyon… as long as Puel starts playing him DM again!

Any of you guys live in Lyon?

Well, Toulalan will be out injured for the next two weeks (which means he’ll miss the Fiorentina match…good thing Lyon are already qualified). But Boumsong is back, so I imagine Toulalan will be moved back to midfield when he returns to action.

ohhhh my god!!!!

I can’t believe that these comments by JT’s agent are due to his frustration at being moved back to CB. Toulalan never struck me as the type of player who would complain about this: he seems like a team player and confident enough to know that he’s just filling a gap and helping his team in what is surely a temporary situation. He has to know that he’s too valuable in the midfield to be “Bodmered.” I can’t figure out what other reason his agent would say that, unless the player really wanted to leave. JT doesn’t seem to be that ambitious nor demand much, and I thought he would at least play-out his contract, if not be one of those few players that would stay with the club forever. So much for my Pjanic-Toulalan-Sissokho dream. Guess I’ll have to settle for Mak in the middle.

Well, even though a stupid agent says that, it doesn’t mean it’s true. Lot’s of the football news coming out nowadays is bullshit. Toulalan is probably not angry about being played as a CB, as he knows it is temporary. If it is true he would want to leave, maybe it is because he is angry with Puel?

Well. this agent may also say that to negotiate a new contract.

I think the important sentence in there is : “that the player is thinking about his options”.
That means that he is also considering staying forever in Lyon. No, I really believe it is a clever move from his agent to make Lyon raise his players wages. How much is Toulalan paid? I mean there aren’t many better DM’s, so his agent wants to negotiate the best salary since he could easily move to a bigger club than Lyon and get paid what he is worth.
Come on Jean-mimi, pull out the check book. Show you love your players.Posted from

So I thought about this a bit further and realized that wait, something is a little weird here. And then I remembered this: http://www.maxifoot.fr/football-rss104172/lyon-inter.php
One month ago, Toulalan’s agent said to the exact same newspaper that Inter did not tempt Toulalan. Hmm, I’m starting to think that it’s the media who are twisting things around. Especially because the rumors of Toulalan leaving started in the foreign media, which later got reported in France as a third party news source.
Huh.

Well spotted Inara. Yes, I have no worries. Toulalan will be here for the next 1 and a half years… hopefully longer.

And it’s official, Ben Arfa is given the green light to leave during the winter transfer season. I just hope he will a last show his true potential.
I don’t want to be wrong about all the good things I have been saying about him in the last 3 years.Posted from

Toule and Lloris should stay forever. Aulas please dont sell them you got enough money in the last 5 years.

2-3 months ago I sad we should bring Sissoko, looks like Aulas is an lyon.theoffside reader

Too bad he didnt saw when I wrote that Bassong would be a good CB for us, he is playing great in TottenhamPosted from

It might be interesting to share with you the weirdest football news here in Serbia at the moment. A few weeks ago, Liverpool players Benayoun and Riera were seen walking the streets of Belgrade, and it has been found out that there is an unnamed female doctor in Belgrade that does some special treatments of sport injuries, muscle injuries if I understood correctly. Now, these are some brand new information, but it turned out that several PL players have already been treated successfully over here and Robin Van Persie is the newest patient to arrive.
Now, Rafael Benitez liked the idea and has sent not only Benayoun and Riera, but also Glen Johnson and Fabio Aurelio to this clinic, there is now even an interview with him regarding this subject. It looks like these treatments have severely shortened the time needed for recovery of those players (they all started training as soon as they arrived, although they were supposed to be out for several weeks) and Benitez will soon have a full size squad at his disposal. So, the two things I’m thinking about are:
1. Thank God Benitez didn’t find out about this before the Lyon games!
2. Why don’t Puel and Aulas check out what this “miracle doctor” can do about our defensive issues?
Posted from

-

Ush : Well, Lloris is one of the major reasons for which we go through. If it wasn’t for him, you would have scored at least 1 more goal in each game.
Nikola : I don’t want to sound rude, but maybe this clinic is slightly… let’s say… suspicious… What miracle are they using that we don’t know of?
