Lyon vs. Nancy

By: Inara | August 29th, 2009

I didn’t have the energy to do an actual preview for this game, so I figured I should at least put up a game day thread.

August 29, 2009
Stade de Gerland, Lyon
3 PM ET (21:00 CET)

Nothing to report except that Nancy have bigger injury concerns than we do. They’ll be missing Michael Chretien, Abdeslam Ouaddou, Chris Malonga, Floyd Ayite, and Cheick Diabate. There is also the small fact that Nancy haven’t won at the Gerland in almost 20 years.

Lyon have some players missing as well, but unlike Nancy, they have more than enough depth to cover those absences. Jean-Alain Boumsong, Ederson, Sidney Govou, and Cleber Anderson will be watching from the stands tonight. Also, Yannis Tafer has been inexplicably left behind in favor of Ishak Belfodil.

Le groupe lyonnais: <em>Lloris, Vercoutre – Cris, Bodmer, Réveillère, Cissokho, Clerc – Toulalan, Källström, Gonalons, Makoun, Pjanic, Delgado – Mounier, Belfodil, Bastos, Gomis, Lisandro

The lineup has already been posted on OL’s website. As you can see, it is an exact replica of the team that welcomed Anderlecht nearly two weeks ago.

Lloris
Réveillère – Cris – Bodmer – Cissokho
Pjanic – Toulalan – Kallstrom
Bastos – Gomis – Lisandro

I’d think that Puel would want to rest some of these players, but I guess he’s thinking ahead to the fact that Lyon have a long international break ahead of them, and most will get the rest they need then.

You can find some streams here or here. Remember to share if you find any working links!

And of course last season Lyon were “oldies” because of Cris and Juninho. Makelele and Giuly is all. The rest of our players are on the young end.

Also, Trezegol would be an improvement to any team, let alone Lyon.

Thomas, why do you think Trezegol would be an improvment to our team. I wouldnt say that he is better than Lisandro or Gomis and next year its likely that Gignac will be in an OL kit. I cant remember a good game from him in the last 2-3 years.
When Juninho and Cris came to lyon they were not oldies.
PSG is bringing players like Makelele,Giuly,Coupet and paying huge salaries instead of giving their young players more playing time. Maybe that helps the team now but what will happen in the next years when they are gone

Bit of a sense of humour failure Thomas? It is the recruitment of players in the swansong of their career that’s given PSG their reputation – it’s just a bit of light hearted fun.

Trezeguet’s star has massively faded over the past 3 years – and there’s been little to suggest that his decline won’t continue. There seems to be a few possible problems with Trezeguet – that he would likely command high wages and demand to start. I could see him having potential ego problems if he came back to France

embarrassingly enough having just looked at his record – Trez scored 20 goals in 07/08 which suggests he really isn’t as past it as I suggested. He could probably do a job for a team over here – but I hope it wouldn’t get in the way of recruiting Gignac

The point is that in the moment we dont need Trezeguet.Licha is probably the best striker in the L1 and Bafe is also playing a great season and scored a number of goals and both are better then Trezegol so he would be just the 3rd striker and that wouldnt be a big improvment from the Juve situation. Why should we pay huge salaries to players who will just sit on the bench. We have a great team and I am wondering do we really need a ST?!Why dont give Tafer or Belfodil the chance to improve and became the new stars of OL in a few years?

We really have a great team but we are starting to be like Chelsea or Bayern.I hate it to see one of in the moment greatest football talents,Grenier, who is not even getting playing time at least in the Cup or in the last 10-15min in league matches.I am sure that if he gets some playing time he could became the new Nasri,Gourcuff or even Zidane.Maybe this is beacuse I am an Arsenal fan and I really like Wengers policy to give some playing time to young and perspective players or maybe beacuse I hate clubs who just buy players and cant produce new stars but I think that Grenier and Tafer and Seguin really deserved to get some playing time this season.

Sorry for my long comment but this is in my opinion a big problem!!!

Trez has 4.2m per year at Juventus, that’s probably more than Gomis and Licha combined.

Even with his salary reduced I don’t think he’d agree to play for Lyon for a peanut, so don’t worry , he won’t come.

I understood that it was humor and my responses were intended to be similar. However, the three signings of highly experienced players will help the young players in the long run. I don’t think it’s really an arguable point that the influence of Claube Makelele, Ludovic Giuly, and Gregory Coupet wont really help young players development. As for Trezeguet, I thought you wanted another striker in the mix. What about injuries, etc.? Do you really want Belfodil starting some champions league game?

We don’t need a striker that will demand to start. It’s already crowded enough right now, trying to accomodate Gomis and LiLo in the 4-3-3. If we get someone like Gignac, we have no choice but to play a 4-4-2, bec neither of those strikers- except Gomis for the moment- will except playing from the bench, nor should they. And then there’s the fact that the 4-4-2 formation seems to be a curse for us. I think we should get Remy, play him and Bastos interchangeably on the sides and Loic is a versatile player who can step-in at striker if needed.

There’s a poll on Fifa.com “Which of these five transfers will turn out to be the best? – Adebayor/Diego/Ibrahimovic/Lopez/Robben. Nice to see him in the company of those other names :)

I believe Ibra will be a flop in Barca until he figures out that he doesn’t need to do all by himself. Also he will have to learn himself some 1 touch passing

That’s an odd statement Aleksander. The guy scored on the season debut. As soon as he feels comfortable and feels he can enjoy playing he will be the best player Barca had since, well, ever!

Lol no, i actually like Ibra, but i think in his two first matches, he’s been terrible except for his goal. Lost alot of balls etc. When he gets used to the team, and the playing style, and the team gets used to him, then of course he will become a star. But he has big shooes to fill…

the ibra deal was so stupid on Barcas behalf,I know or I think I know Eto o was a bit of a nuisance to them in terms of disrupting but Eto o is way better than Ibra,Ibra has all the attributes to be the best but he is aarogant(too aaragant)he isnt consistant and hasnt done it on the big stage where as eto o suited barca perfect, hed let Messi,Xavi and Iniesta do the fancy stuff while he would just net the finish-Ibra is different. Lisandro is very good-if truth be told he deserved a move to a bigger club than lyon from porto. The CB situation is horrible we just have the worst CBs ever, the thing is there are loads of CBs who we could potentially sign-Servet,Pedro Geromel,Rolando,Tamas,Rami,Papa Gueye,Hilton really the list is hundreds.

ha, there’s no pleasing you Ronan… You’d always say Lyon needed to aim for the highest with their transfer buys, and now with Lisandro you say he deserved a move to a bigger club?

There is no need to discuss about Trezeguet anymore,he is 90% not going to wear a OL kit.And for Licha,he is a great player and IMO he made a huge step in his career when he signed for OL.Lets be honest there arent many “much bigger clubs then Lyon” where he could be the main star of the team like in Lyon and the french league is 5 times better then the portugeasue one and Lyon is a much bigger club then Porto. He made a good choice!
Ronan,I fully agree for the CBs,all the players you mentioned would help us alot but there is a small chance that we will buy one until the next summer :(

Lisandro has it too. I wish they would use their Joker signing on a CB, right now!
