Well, I think the Liverpool Fiore draw plus a win by two+ goals over Debreceni seems pretty possible.

Inara, I was watching earlier on some earlier games from Lyon this season. And I was thinking “Woaaaw, we were playing really well in august and september!”
And as I come to mention it, I see you had come up with the same conclusion after the fiorentina game.Really, what happened? Our players were all moving soooo well, and could find each other very easily (especially in the attack). What happened to our through balls?Only Delgado seems to be able to do them now.
There is definitely a problem. As if players were trying too hard, as if the tactics trained were stopping them from playing natural flowing football. and today I think : I miss Le Guen. The guy was probably not doing a lot to the team in terms of coaching (as you said at the time, Lyon could be managed by a baboon that it wouldn’t change a thing). But the fact that there wasn’t so much tactic allowed the players to play nice football.

also, with the victory of Bordeaux over Juventus, it means they are sure to finish top of the group…
What I was saying yesterday is also true the opposite way, so Bordeaux will be able to rest their players for matchday 6, as the following game is against us. I am very pessimistic. Unless Delgado makes the show…Next our 2 “betes noires”, then Cl and Bordeaux. The next 4 games are crucial for the rest of the season. We cannot win the L1 in 3 games, but we can definitely lose it.

I think the difference between the start of the season and now is Toulalan no longer being in the midfield. He’s an amazing ballwinner giving the team possession and a platform to send more players forward thus allowing more linkup play in attack. Losing Toulalan is like Liverpool losing Xabi, and we’ve all seen how thats panned out so far.
Some stats to back up my case. As a midfielder:
2-2 Le Mans
5-1 Anderlecht
3-0 Auxerre
3-1 Anderlecht
3-1 Nancy
1-1 PSG
2-1 Toulouse
7 games, 5 wins, 2 draws, 0 losses, 2 or more goals scored 6 out of 7 times. When he played at CB:
1-0 Fiorentina
4-0 Debrecen
2-0 Lens
0-2 Sochaux
2-1 Liverpool
1-4 Nice
1-0 St Etienne
1-1 Liverpool
5-5 Marseille
9 games, 5 wins, 2 draws, 2 losses, 2 or more goals scored 4 out of 9 times.Games that he was rested:
1-0 Valenciennes
1-0 Lorient
1-1 Grenoble
0-1 Fiorentina
4 games, 2 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss, 2 or more goals scored 0 out of 4 times.Posted from

Matt : interesting stats. But that doesn’t change the fact that our link up play up front has worsened.
As much as I love Toulalan in DM (and he is sorely missed!), most of the time he doesn’t participate in the offensive phases. What happened to the “grinta” we had a couple of months back?
It is as if Bastos couldn’t find Gomis as he used to. As if we have 11 different brains on the field, while we should aim to have 1 same brain!Posted from

I know what you mean but I still think Toulalan is a huge factor in our offense without actually getting involved in offensive plays. Makoun just doesn’t have the same presence and can’t win the ball back the same way. With Toulalan in DM Pjanic and Kallstrom can play higher up the pitch, and as we control possession the opponents sit back giving us more space around the box. Toulalan’s also fantastic at being the anchor to switch play from 1 side to the other.
Take the Fiorentina game for example, I saw Gomis (before Lisandro came on) inside our 6 yard box defending a corner, you can’t expect great linkup play offensively when the players mentality is defence first. It all stems down to midfield control and Makoun and Pjanic just aren’t physical enough.
If our plays still poor when Toulalans back in DM i’ll admit i’m wrong, but I genuinely believe hes the key.

Sorry guys! John is away so I’m supposed to do today’s preview. I was supposed to be back home last night from the holidays but I’m still traveling. I’d write up a post from my phone, but by the time I’m done, the match will be over anyway.

Inara : don’t worry, we know it is not always easy to put up a new post. I am sure everyone on this blog appreciates the efforts both you and John make week in week out! I wouldn’t be able to do the same.
John : I hope Lyon will honour you!

1-1 after an amazing Lisandro freekick.

Rennes are starting a 17-year old goalkeeper. That’s balls right there.

yes, Lisandro’s free kick was superb. He really is the man. But really, when you look that Rennes have a 17 years old keeper, we should already be ahead.
Pjanic missed a golden opportunity.
I hope we break the charm today!Posted from

its days like two days ago that make me proud that we sold Fred.
Scored a goal for his team ( which he captained ), but then got to hotheaded that he basically headbutted the ref alittle and got a red card. what a goof.
