How to get tickets for Lyon vs. Rangers

By: Inara | September 25th, 2007

I’ve been getting a few emails from people asking how to get tickets for next week’s Champions League match, with Lyon hosting Rangers.

First of all, I’m pretty sure this match is close to being sold out. Lyon tend to have a 100% filling rate for European matches. And since OL lost at Barca, this game against Rangers is crucial for qualification.

Lyon have allocated around 2000 seats for visiting fans, which Rangers are selling through their club. If Rangers are no longer selling tickets, or if you’re a neutral fan and don’t care about sitting with the home crowd, you can order the tickets through Lyon’s website.

Unlike a lot of other clubs, at Lyon the supporters groups don’t have control over ticketing. So you’re best bet is to go the club’s official ticketing site here. You will need to register. Most of it is French but it’s pretty easy to figure out (and you can always use google translator if you are stuck). You can also use this site in English, though I think the prices are rather jacked up there.

But I have to stress that I’ve never purchased an OL ticket before because I’ve never been to a game (well I did ages ago but as a guest). Perhaps some of my readers who do have experience with OL ticketing can chime in.

yes, it’s easy to get some tickets via the official website. I think the tickets for rangers have been sold since the 18th or something like that, so it must be getting tough to get some tickets. But saying that, last year, I got my Lyon-Real Madrid ticket only 6 days before the game through the website and still some fairly cheap seats. I advise people who want to enjoy a good atmosphere to take tickets for the north or south stands. This is where the group of supporters are.
You will be surrounded by people jumping all match, cheering, …etc.
The stands on the sides are … let’s say more familial, and people tend to be quieter and use the actual seat they paid for.

During Lyon-Real Madrid last year, we didn’t seat at all during the game, just during half time, so be ready for the action!

Enjoy the game if you are going.

All have been said… except that you also can own the tickets on lyonnaises radio. You just have to call and try (Radio Scoop, Espace, Hit & Sport, NRJ Lyon)

The website has just stopped selling the Rangers tickets (there were still some yesterday) but keep checking back because they often put back a few last tickets on the website.

If people are coming to the match who don’t know Lyon its best to take the metro as around Gerland can be difficult to park. The metro works really well because Stadt Gerland is on a terminus station. After the match all the metro entrances bar one are closed and there is always an orderly(ish) queue onto the trains via the one open entrance.

well, there’s an announcement LAST MINUTE ALL SEATS 30€ on the site right now (30/08/07’s the create date, not the edit date) but that may not be for online and it’s probably too late anyway… in the buy online section the match is SOLD OUT. and anyway online sales were limited to french and swiss residents.

if you DO have seats, pay heed to storm and take the metro. on the way out don’t even try gerland station, walk to debourg (next stop), faster than waiting in line. they only fill half the train at gerland so you even might get to sit down…

in fact, don’t even go all the way to gerland on the way in; get off at debourg and have your kebab at the place right outside the station: better, cheaper and beer colder than from the “roulottes” around the stadium.

    AND BE CAREFUL !
If you want to eat at Mc Do near the Stadium, there’s “no patatoes on game’s evenings” !
    :)

I don’t really agree with you guignol, if you walk out of the stadium in the minutes following the end of the game the Gerland station is very approachable, even if it doesn’t look so from the outside. I personnaly never had to wait in line more than 5 minutes, and you get a chance to grab a seat.

orlondow, admit it… you leave in the minutes BEFORE the game ends… ;) either that or you sprint like hell because even from section K i’ve never got to gerland metro before the parvis is at least half full… with JJ wannasauts no doubt!

anyway, the 30€ offer is on olweb right now, for the last unnumbered seats in C&D (BGland) but the site is about to blow…

jorg, lyon IS a great place, and we’re interested in seeing if gers fans are as nice to have in town as hoops fans who were right gentlemen. directions to the stadium? start at the smoking dog, and after a couple there ask for the st. james… you’ll be in the right direction so just carry on 4 miles from there at the pace that suits.

@guignol : I NEVER left before the end of a game, and I always sit in Virage Nord… I assure you, the “half full parvis” doesn’t mean anything. Maybe you should try it for yourself :)
