Le Nouveau Roi de Lyon

By: Inara | August 25th, 2009

He’s already got the abs, the pointy beard, and the move-bitch-get-outta-my-way attitude. He just needs a sword (and a leather loincloth), and then he’ll be all set for world domination.

The seeds are based off European performance the last 5 seasons so A.C. Milan still have their 04/05 CL runner’s up included and their 06/07 win. Same with CSKA still holding onto their 04/05 Uefa cup win. The good news is we’re still 9th overall just behind Bayern and Sevilla so a better performance then them should get us back into Pot 1 next year.

My ideal group: Bayern (They’re off to a terrible start this season), Lyon, Besiktas, APOEL Nicosia

@Thomas: Matt has already explained everything, and I just have to add that I don’t think that seeding is unfair at all. The better you fare in Europe, the bigger coefficient you have and in a higher pot you go – plain and simple. AC Milan won the CL, Sevilla won the UEFA Cup twice, of course they are going to be better seeded than Lyon.

That’s all true. I was ranting against the system, knowing full well that under the system it is correct. However, the idea of the coefficients is stupid considering that teams can drastically change over the course of 5 season, going from being a champions League finalist to finishing 16th in the League (Monaco). The seeding should be based on the performance domestically and on the continent in the previous season.

    My ideal group:
Bayern(IMO the worst team in the Pot One)
    LYON :D
    Olympiakos(The others are way better)
    Debreceni(no need to explain)

    My worst group:
Arsenal(to early,I would like to see an Arsenal vs. Lyon final)
    LYON
    Fiorentina(very strong team)
Wolfsburg(the best team in the Pot Four and even better then some clubs in the Pot Three,Two and One)

@John: Is Gassama leaving on loan, or are we repeating the Remy scenario?

When Clerc leaves, Gassama could be a perfect back-up for Revelliere in terms of his age and ability. But if the management thinks he’s not good enough, then we’ll have to bring a new RB next summer. Fanni? Dabo?

The draw is going SO SLOWLY. I need to leave my apartment in five minutes, but UEFA are wasting time giving out silly awards. Grr.

Ugh. Liverpool. I think they’re manageable, but the game will be boring to play.

as long as we dont draw wolfsburg from seed D no matter what the other 2 teams are it should be managable

Very disappointed to get Fiorentina again – they’re a team I wanted to avoid. I think we stand a chance of getting a few points of Liverpool, but Torres might just rape our feeble defence. I can certainly imagine Gilardinho and Mutu enjoying playing against Cris! At least we didn’t draw Wolfsburg.

Nikola – I don’t think it’s fair that Sevilla are above us because of winning the UEFA twice. It’s a lesser competition which Lyon have been above playing in each of those seasons, each year we’ve qualified out of the group stage in the Champs as well. Not quite fair.

Don’t be to scared of Fiorentina. We (PSG) destroyed them 3-0 in a friendly where they played all their starters.

Nikola: Gassama’s thing is a loan deal. The thing I’m wondering is: If OL decide to deal/if they can unload Clerc at the winter window, who will be our back-up? I guess they are thinking Clerc will just walk-out on a Bosman in the summer.
