Not a good result… But still, I am proud of the players tonight. They have played their best game in a very very long time!

Cris had a poor game anyway, made the mistake that let Eto’o shoot and hit the post and didn’t mark Henry properly for the goal. Maybe Clerc will be ready in 2 weeks time and Mensah can play in the centre. That was a dissapointing result since there were so many great chances to finish it, but it makes me positive we can score at Nou Camp.

Cris is not suspended… he took another yellow on purpose in the 5th game of the group stage and was banned against bayern.

Cris will definitely be at Nou Camp

Well we have our chances. We didn’t break them after we score first. Benzema says that he will leave if Lyon didn’t get trouhg quoterfinals, but he dind’t show anything. Ederson try, but they kill him. Boumsong – man of the match. Messi dind’t play very much. Boum – Boum, you are the man.

I don’t think we can score at Camp Nou: we were at home and only scored because of Juninho’s miracle-working. Now Cris will be out and that upsets the defensive balance of the back-line.

F@#k Benzema! I’m getting tired of those stupid goal.com articles too. If he want’s to leave, he’d better do something in the next leg to catch the attention of the big clubs. Can’t wait to get that money so that we can get a couple of finishers.

Last i check, POL was right, Cris got a yellow last time ( before the Bayern game ) to avoid getting suspended for the second leg.

Anyway on the game. For some reason, im more optimistic about this game ending in a draw then i was when we drew with Manchester, probably because i noticed that they have trouble dealing with juninho’s presence and Toulakoun ( who were immense tonight )

We can suprice Barca at Camp Nou. Why not?? Whole Europe knows that we are out from competition. So we must go there, play football, and win. That will be not easy, but why we don’t do that? Just play sam attractive football, win, and show the world that we can beat everyone in this planet.

I onfirm for Cris. The only player who was under the possibility of missing the second leg if he got carded was Marquez.
Unfortunately, he didn’t get a yellow card, so he wil be there for the return leg. A shame, when you consider Barca could have been playing without Abidal and Marquez…
In the 5th game of the group stage both Cris and Juninho got carded on purpose in order to be sure to play the 2 games for the knock out stage. And not be under the threat of a yellow card. Actually the fact they got carded made a big polemic in France as whether it was such a good idea to get carded before Bayern.

If they had been there against bayern, we “may” have had finished 1st of the group and avoid Barca, but may have had to play without Cris and Juninho. Personally, I believe they took the right decision being carded. Their presence are invaluable for the K.O. stage.

The bigger problem is, Lyon now need to either win or achieve a score draw of at least a 2-2 at Camp Nou. That will be very difficult.

I think they can ( score that is ), you have to realize that this wasnt Lyon’s greatest game as far as finishing goes, Benzema will be better and i belive that Cesar Delgado will be starting in the second leg ( which i belive is a way better option instead of Keita who hasnt put it all together yet ).

But you know, I thought Keita did really well, at least until he got to the 18 year box. His finishing is majorly suspect, but I have to admit that the real reason for his starting, which was to cut through their defenses and and hold off the bigger Barca players so that the ball could get through, worked really well. It’s what Govou used to do, as well as Malouda. Delgado couldn’t have done that.

If only there were some way to play them both without sacrificing Ederson or Makoun.

Now let’s go to Camp Nou and defeat this arrogant bunch of stars and silence them all – why on earth can’t we do it? No room for defetism, let’s go for victory in the second leg! This is not MU, these guys concede goals much more easily and if we get only one at Camp Nou, our 1-1 draw isn’t really going to look like a bad result.

I was at the Gerland Stadium tonight (great experience, by the way) and honestly I think Keita was the worst Lyon player in that game. If only he had been replaced earlier, and by Delgado…

I don’t agree with the thinking of Lyon needs a 2-2 draw. The truth is Lyon only needs to score 1 goal in Camp Nou, and looking at their defense I don’t see why that shouldn’t happen.
As I see it, Barca needs to score two goals to be safe, otherwise it will lead to penalties (50-50 chance).
So even if Barca scores first in the return leg, I wouldn’t lose hope whatsoever, because a 1-1 draw would lead us to extra time. Barca is in a weird situation, where they’ll have to decide how much risk they want to take.

My memory of UEFA rules are foggy – I thought that in the round of 16, if teams are tied on goals and away goals, they look at goals scored and conceded.

    I’ll look that up asap.

Inara, I’m not sure I follow your point. If teams are tied on goals and away goals then that’s all there is to it – the group stages are invalid now, they played against different teams in the group stages so its not a reasonable measure to go by. Should the score be 1-1 at camp nou then it would go to extra time. Didn’t get to see the game as I was at a Fulham match but I thought the highlights were exciting – and it seemed quite evenly matched. Obviously it is disappointing to surrender a lead, and its disappointing how we couldn’t grab another given how early the goal was. I’m surprised to see fans getting on Benzema’s back on the board. I think its best to ignore the goal articles as there is certainly a lot of fabrication, and all he is doing is providing answers to questions as any normal person would, it doesn’t appear to me that he is trying to engineer a move or betray Lyon at all. I for one hope he stays til the world cup at least and I think with him and Juninho in our artillery then we stand a chance at the camp nou. I was really (irrationally) worried that we’d get badly beaten today, but as it goes we’re disappointed to come away with just a draw which is no mean feat against Barca in a match where there are no squad or motivational issues. I do have massive fear that this is going to be an uncanny repeat of last year – today’s match and manner of goals is worryingly similar: Lyon go ahead with a wonder goal and fight tooth and nail, and are slightly unfortunate not to be further ahead. But the major force don’t give up and their persistence and quality pays dividends as they manage to squeeze a crucial goal in a packed box from a set piece…

One thing REALLY pissed me off today though. After showing the paltry 3 minutes of a really exciting Lyon match after – what like 30minutes and endless analysis of the bloody borefest at the San Siro; the presenter speaks to the pundit and says ‘well we all know that Ronaldo is one of the best free kick takers in the world, but surely his title has to be under some threat’ (speaking of Juninho). WTF? Ronaldo’s title under threat? The Ronaldo who spanks 80% of his free kicks into the bottom of the wall, who unsuccessfully tries to imitate the great Juninho’s free kicks’ title is under threat is it? Jesus christ, the ignorance and stupidity of the ITV punditry makes you want to bang your head against a brick wall. There’s a real sense of football begins and ends at the Premier League and there seems to be a lack of genuine appreciation or thirst for knowledge about what is actually happening. I kinda hope the English sides get spanked out to knock everyone down a peg or two – bar Arsenal who I’ve always had a soft spot for. Also, don’t get me started on the way pundits talk about the big 4 over here. RANT OVER

As long as Barcelona does not score first, i believe we can go trough..this barca team is not as strong as people want it to be, we just need to hang onto the ball, attack quicker and be more precise..We’ll have to give benzema the ball when he’s around the 16metres, because that is where he is the most dangerous.
