I feel like Bojan and Ronaldinho are playing for Lyon.

Now we are tied with Rangers but they have the better head to head record, so we need to win at Ibrox but they can advance with a draw.

What an insane game. Recommended viewing, it was great to see two attacking teams play football the way it should be played. Many times Lyon looked like the better team and were evenly matched though Barca were missing Etoo, Deco, and Henry. But Lyon were missing Coupet, Cris, and Benzema. Not quite the same, but this game feeds the belief that the gulf in quality between Lyon and a team like Barca is a lot smaller than one would think.

Nice game, definitely worth the watch. I’m just a little disappointed with two things : The ref’s yellow-card madness time, and Keita’s imaginary penalty. Kind of messes the mood of an otherwise very nice game to watch.
Ronaldinho didn’t seem on great form but… My God… Those passes…

“Keita’s imaginary penalty” I don’t think so, Abidal took the keita’s foot.

Oh yes… I can really see him “trying” to play but being hit just sooo hard by Abidal…

That’s part of the game - winning penalties. Keita’s doing his job in allowing Abidal to foul him. Sure Keita could have tried to stay up but then so could Messi on the other end of the pitch.

I’ll have post game thoughts up later tonight, but I was REALLY pleased with the way Lyon played tonight. Our defensive weaknesses were still there, but our midfield absolutely dominated theirs. Barca had to rely on their wings (which isn’t exactly a bad thing when you have the likes of Messi and Xavi there) to breach our defenses. It’s obvious Rijkaard did his homework because he knew that Grosso would leave space for Messi.
I think Fabio Santos - Toulalan - Juninho is the way to go from now on.

Definite penalty, no question, got Keita, didn’t get the ball. Keita did well, impressed.

Inara, I have to agree with Shaz on that wone. Messi got fouled by Squillacci who arrived late. But Keita very smartly looked for the penalty.
now it was just fait given the game to see Lyon equalizePosted from

And what do you do with Superkim?
Apparently, Mathieu Bodmer threw a fit, took his shower before the end of the game and left by the time his teammates were getting to the locker.
He was pissedPosted from

Wow what a game. I have to admit I wasn’t expecting us to walk away with any points tonight. Great to see Barca but also to see them without been humilitated! My heart sunk at the first Barca goal - it felt just like Rangers with everything in their half and then suddenly one counter attack and wham. But then…
Juni was a superstar and his free kick a dream. Santos is great but he really scares me that he’s going to be so violent he’ll be red carded. More of a thugish violence than Toulalan’s ’solid’ defending.
Gerland was full and a great ambiance - which really caught fire after our penalty.
And I think Stuttgart must Lyon’s favourite ever club tonight.Posted from

So in conclusion, everyone’s happy? Barca qualify, Lyon still have a chance to qualify, and a draw’s not a bad result for either side.

I think I am as happy as can be. Perhaps a win was too much to ask for Lyon given the shoddy state of their defenses, but the performance Lyon put out tonight makes me confident for the match in Glasgow. It’s time France get their due from Scottish football.

My internet just came back up and I was afraid to check the UEFA site. I had to shut down my computer shortly after Barca scored the penalty.
What a relief! Not only did Lyon come back to tie, Stuttgart won!!! Color me happy.

Now I’ve read everybody’s comments, I’m going to go in and watch the game. Happy, happy, happy.

OL could have lost… but could have won too. would have been nice not to let rangers play for a draw, but hey…
as for keita’s péno, perhaps on a feed you can’t see it, but on TV it’s 100% legit. no brutal contact but YOU try to stay up when someone takes your foot out from under you like that.
i was at gerland last night as it happens… but not in the stadium, i had to go to see my son’s teachers, he goes to school in the neighborhood… the area was already getting warm at 7pm, and at 8 it was hot. gerland was rockin’ and hats off to the 12th man too…

The atmosphere was GREAT last night. I wasn’t pleased to see Fred booed, but otherwise, I had no complaints. I think OL fans have really upped their tempo when it comes to support - they were great during the away match to Stuttgart too! Let’s hope they do the same for league matches.
