7 straight titles. Another euro blunder. Now we have to play a make or break match against Bordeaux with tired legs. I know Blanc is smiling.

what is wrong ? Our coach, too much defensive with an offensive team he already gave his plan “waiting the end of the match and score one goal to qualify” he certainly hopped ManU not to score, he’s a poor guy. Each time we attacked really ManU at Home we made them panic. He hopped our player could attack after definding all a match, he’s stupid, he has the strategic sense of a chicken. Why did we take Crosas, Delgado, Keita, if they didn’t play during the league in order to allow other players to have a rest. Like i said before the beginning of the season you need at least two men for each position. If Grosso will be injured we wouldn’t have a left back. Ferguson gave a rest to his best players before this match, despite Perrin didn’t.

i’m gonna look back on this in a week and be so pissed; united didn’t do dick in the second half! the mind goes back to Ben Arfa’s failed cut back to Benzama at 1-0 in the first leg.

but onwards we go, forget United, we’ll be better for this, Benzema stays for at least another year, Ben Arfa will learn to pass and Perrin will be sweeping toilet floors by the time Europe returns.

now let’s deal with des Girondins.

Well well well all i can say is there is not much between these teams. Except lyon seems to give up wrechid goals.

Lyon r so great, but these comical errors have to stop. I’m so sick of seeing them concede these sloppy goals.

Oh and also toulalan and cris were amazing today.

What is frustrating about this loss is that United were not at all impressive. Lyon could very well have won that game. Damn.

Let’s not dwell on these defeat. I thought the boys gave a terrific and brave account of themselves. At the end of the day they were just edged out. Everyone put in their shift, and I don’t think any individual is to blame. I think with a more enthusiastic coach, the players might just have had that extra dimension to take them to win this game. The timing of both Manchester goals - 5 minutes before the end of each half says a lot about both teams. Lyon switch off at these crucial moments, and Man U have the talent to always take advantage of these situations. Shame another season, and we’re out of the champions league. If we manage to keep this same squad (added bonus of Ederson as well) and bring in a world class manager - I can see Lyon flying in the champions league next year.

It’s really disappointing especially as both the Utd goals were so sloppy and yes with a little luck on our side we could have gone through.
Yet you know 1:0 at Old Trafford is still a performance to be proud of - just look what happened to Roma. Only one goal conceeded against possibly the best side in Europe at the moment. I think we can still be very proud of our team - there were some strong perfomances. Cris looks like he’s close to match fitness already; there were moments of wonderful teamwork; Benzema scares the hell out everyone; Clerc is getting more and more offensive; Keita even got close to scoring.

kallstrom cant play defensive like essien or tiago! juninho needs a player like that to play more offensive! we need fabio santos!!(he is not playing well at sao paulo) or we bench kallstrom or we swap to the 4-4-2

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing during the game - I really miss Fabio Santos. I would like him back, but I don’t see it happening.

You know, speaking of a more defensive player that can attack, Marc Crosas is supposedly an up and coming one. He’s very Tiago-esque, so I wish Perrin would play him more often. Kallstrom is going to leave Lyon this summer anyway.

Also, Benzema said after the match that he’ll still be in Lyon next year. He has a lot he wants to accomplish with his club. So that’s some good news, right?

Okay, so what made me SO MAD is that Lyon could have had a victory. But due to two mistakes where we had sloppier defending than a middle school girls soccer team in the third division, MU got their two goals. Otherwise, I thought Lyon were more potent in terms of the attack.

I’ll have more concrete thoughts tomorrow.

I tired of people saying that Kallstrom plays like crap. He may not be the best midfielder, but he’s solid at it. Besides, probably our best chance today came from him.

On one hand, we should we satisfied. We managed to play relatively well against perhaps the best side in Europe, outplayed them at The Gerland, left Old Trafford with only one goal conceded, and there are few people in the footballing world who sincerely believed that we would do better (I was expecting a 3:0 defeat, but didn’t want to say and jinx it). The fans should be satisfied, Aulas should be satisfied, the players should be satisfied, and we should all now think for the future, win the league and the CdF, build a better team and think positively. And if it still all looks very painful, just look at AC Milan! :)

On the other hand, our dream has just died, and yes, we could have won and made it happen. No more Europe, no more black shirts, no more dreams at least until september. The next time we will have a chance to watch OL play in the knockout stages is one year from now, and when I think I said the very same thing to myself after the Roma defeat, it appears to me that this long wait and a funny thing called hope is actually all we have. And yes, we are a small team, and yes, when people write us off, we really do lose. When we say OL is going to win, everybody else tells us that we are just a small french team and we are always shooting too high. And after this defeat, I don’t know how we could prove them wrong…

I’m so depressed. Sorry for being sincere…

well, im back from school, i totally bombed the test and will probably find a way to at least come away with a C in the class.

As for todays result, i didnt get to see the first half and the goal by that guy ( doesnt deserve to be named ). From what i saw in the second half was a Lyon team that wasnt allowed to do anything ( Carrick and Fletcher pretty much stayed back and waited for Benzema to have the ball to smother him ). And the times that we did have the ball, it was ben arfa who was in control………and i probably wont be the only one that felt that this was his last game with Lyon in the champions league, played extremely selfish ( it was like he had forgotten he was playing with 9 other position players). Instead of progressing his skill and maturity, he took on huge step back…..to the point that Benzema gave him that ” What the Fuck are you doing ?” LOOK (Keep that LOOK in mind, he might show it again in the Bordeaux game ).

And for Sarah : im not saying anything bad about kallstrom, i like him being on the team hopes he can stay for another year. The only problem i had with him in this game was that : he would 30m away from the keeper and would shoot from that distance, i thought he could have just kept the ball and looked for a pass to benzema or govou instead of losing the ball for a keeper throw in.

i think we will all be sad to see kallstrom leave this summer. but that being said it makes way for Ederson who is set to be a very important player in lyon’s future.

if crosas goes back to barcelona, and santos stays in brazil or goes elsewhere, will we be investing in another mid this summer as well?

and are there any rumors circulating about possible candidates for that left-back position we need to so desperately fill?

We’ll have Ederson - Toulalan - Bodmer in the midfield, next year.
    I can’t wait to see this !

About yesterday, I’m not so sad, strangely.
I was expecting this result, and I’m happy to see that Lyon has made two very serious games. 1-1 ans 1-0 against Man U is not a slap.
Remember, 5 months ago… Who believed this team could do that ?
We have had a very difficult season… It’s a transition. We still can win a “doublé coupe championnat”. I’m not sad.
We have a more important game on sunday, believe me !

    Allez l’OL !

I don’t feel too bad, two sloppy goals. It’s pure luck on Man United side. I’d call it very typical with them, they always get flukey. I think Lyon are still gaining respect, hear Evras comments after the game? Notice Man United have no gone joint favs with Barca to win the champs league now??

For me also, this is a slight improvement from being beaten by Roma at the same stage last year. Lets get it in perspective this season…
Win the domestic double, ease in Ederson, keep Benzema, give Keita more playing time over Ben Arfa, hopefully replace Perrin…

sonny’s goal against ajax was legit, that was a real heart break. This was not a big disappoint me, Jo, Guig and Ush are right, this is a transition year and we have been making steady progress for years now, it will take another few years. The fact is, we didnt play well to deserve a win, and the big teams always get the lucky goal, the fluke as Ush said. Theres always next year, maybe a better group and some better players (Grosso, Govou and Kallstrom were poor for me) but most importantly, I hope a better coach because Perrin has done a decent job but he is not a CL winning coach, its to obvious. Allez Lyonnais!

Well Real Madrid is out of the Champions league……gave me something to smile about at the moment. Sorry Corey

Well, in closing from me, its getting clearer and clearer that Lyon will win a champions league title ( hopefully in my 20’s, so i can celebrate like theres no tommorrow ). Im still pissed we lost to that team from Manchester, but we look better and have more quality ( and we probably will have a better coach sooner too ).

the biggest thing that i came away with from this game is that Keita needs to PLAY. Lyon were a new team after he came on and whether it was because of Govou’s impotence or Keita’s technique the switch was a huge improvement. against a quality side he had no fear and that’s exactly the kind of trait OL need more of to progress in Europe next year. Ben Arfa needs to play too because i think he will watch this game over and over and learn from it. He’s just as talented as Benzema but he’s not putting his talent to use…but that will come. he’s just not as mature as Benzema is. the youth on this team need to play, all of them. they need to mold together as a unit and develop together. clerc, bodmer, ben arfa, benzema, keita and toulalan. they are the future of this team and Aulas needs to keep them here in Lyon.

I know, I know, we shouldn’t be sad, Lyon played well, we have lots to look forward to, etc (see my next post). And at least this year was a lot different from last year, when we went out without a whimper against Roma. But still, losing hurts, you know? No matter the opposition or circumstances, I will always expect a Lyon victory, even when the odds are against us. Of course a win isn’t always on the cards, but I can’t help the perhaps unrealistic expectations and the massive amounts of hope - even if I have to crash down to earth 24 hours later and then repeat the cycle the following week. So I suppose my bitterness (it’s temporary, I swear!) is to be expected. And though I know I should try to glean the positives from the match, just allow me a few moments to wallow in my depression as I curse Carlos Tevez.
