Reason #2986 that Jeremy Toulalan is so awesome

By: Inara | July 28th, 2008

Excuse this blatant excuse to pimp Jeremy Toulalan some more, but I can’t help myself. Thanks to the amazing detective powers of Jennifer, we now have further proof of Toulalan’s adorableness dorkiness.

Please watch the following video (at the 11 second mark) to see La Toule show off his moves. It’s short, so if you blink, you might miss it. But those two seconds are just so…Toulalan. And no, yellow cards are not involved.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥TOULE♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

But this post is about more than Toulalan’s dance skillz. The Lyon website posted a short interview of Toulalan that gives us a slightly deeper glimpse of his character. I won’t post all of it here, but here are some of my favorite excerpts:

- Though he had a month off, he only spent a week of it relaxing. After that, he would go through the fitness regimen that he followed during the season and would run at least 40 minutes a day. Geez. No wonder he’s so much fitter than everyone else. He never stops working, not even when he’s supposed to be taking a break!

- His favorite part of playing football is pushing his limits to the maximum, to go beyond what he’s capable of and to never give up. He also mentions that for him, it gets harder with every season because of his high standards of progress.

- He prefers to lead by example rather than by words.

- He really really really wants to score a goal for Lyon, whether it’s from long distance or an embarrassingly easy tap in. His aim this season is to improve his attacking game and to help out with assists.

What’s not to love about Toulalan? He’s just so real, so down to earth and humble, and he acts like he’s not already a world class player (which he is totally is). If I were 15 years younger, I’d be scribbling our names together in my notebook.

Okay, fine. I admit it. I do scribble our names together. But don’t tell him, okay? I don’t know what I’d do if he put out a restraining order against me.

Edit: let me know if the video doesn’t work for you.

Suazo is extremely fast and could play as a winger(which we have too many of) but I’m not so sure how well he could play in a 1 striker system. Crespo maybe would be better since he’s class but old enough to be happy on the bench. Adriano?? I thought they were retaining him? Jose wants three strikers so I assume Cruz, Ibra and Adriano would be kept.

Lyon wanted Crespo two seasons back, but he was too expensive even back then. I can’t imagine the price now. Plus I don’t think any of Inter’s outdated strikers are on Puel’s list.

It seems to be Piquionne. :/

This is the drawback of having a general manager. Lacombe and Aulas would never sanction a move for him, but Puel wants him, and with his authority, his decision overrides all the others.

We have to be confident with Puel, so we have to be with Piquionne.
That’s sure he’s not the striker I was dreaming about, but what do you prefere ?
Benz + Fred & Baros on the bench
    or
Benz + Fred & Piquionne on the bench ?

If Piquionne is an upgrade, so why not being happy ? :)

I’m sure he’s very frustrated with his Monaco years, and will try to be the “ASSE Piquionne” again, especially against les verts.

Well, to be honest, I’d rather Lyon had kept Remy if it’s a choice between Baros and Piquionne.

But you’re right, we should be confident in Puel. He hasn’t even had his first official game yet, so it’s not fair to doubt him. He’s the right man for OL, I know he is.

Inara I doubt Crespo’s more expensive now — he’s two years older, had an awful season last year, and Inter need to dump a striker.

Yes but doesn’t Crespo have rather high wages? That might be the stumbling block. Of the other potential strikers at Inter that Lyon might obtain, the club was interested in Adriano last year, but I think Aulas has had enough of moody Brazilians. That does leave Suazo, but as you pointed out, he’s never been linked with Lyon before. But if Inter are willing to dump him, and given the good relationship between Moratti and Aulas, who knows?

The Crespo thing is actually really odd right now — as far as I can tell he’s not actually got a contract, despite having a squad number. He seems to be hanging around because he likes Mourinho and Mourinho likes him, and they’re hoping to sort something out. He did make a ton last year, but if he wants to play, who knows. (Barring disaster, Adriano’s staying, he’s playing a lot in preseason and performing well.)

I wouldn’t be too stressed about it anyway as the striker bought will be a 3rd choice after all, assuming they release Baros.

if he works on his attacking game he’ll be unstoppable. he does have a great attitude. he deserves to be captain one day.

Puel said that he worked the players very hard in training the day before and that they probably weren’t as fresh as the Monaco players.

My question is, why did he start Bodmer in defense first alongside of Cris and not Boumsong?

I hope Lloris’ confidence isnt dented. He’s allowed in quite a few goals already but I’m sure he will come good.

My question is, why THE HELL does Mathieu Bodmer want to be a AM ? He’s could be so good as a DM. He reminds me (and so much people) Laurent Blanc.

Off Topic : Piquionne is Lyonnais at 90%, according to OLTV. France football confirm it, with Olivier Blanc, OL’s com Director.

This is completely irrelevant to the post, but at the most recent Seattle Sounders game I went to, there was a guy in a Crespo Inter jersey. A bit of a WTF moment, for me at least.

    Bobby Digital,
Here is a translation of what the players are saying. But there is not so much to understand because that’s just a montage of every “laughy” moments. Anyway.

    Ribery : Makelele’s socks ! (…) I’m a snitch !

    (…)

Evra : Don’t pick a quarrel with me. I’ll tease you in front of all entire France ! Don’t pick a quarrel with me !
    Ribery : Ok, ok !

    (…)

Ribery : (pointing him) The boss.
(Pointing Vieira) The long. Yes the long, he is long.

    (…)

Gallas : We were not so far, weren’t we ??

    (…)

    Evra : Zizou… Zizou from Congo !
    A. Diarra : Platini from Rwanda !

    Highlights: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=TQT5P2MQ

So I saw the highlights, and I’ve come to a few conclusions.

    1. It’s important to remember that this is only the second match for the internationals, and they only played for half a game.
    2. Puel and the players seemed more concerned with simply playing than worrying about the score.
    3. Makoun looked really good and is a good counterpart for Toulalan.
    4. Delgado was pretty good himself.
    5. Puel subbed every player out of the game except for Lloris. We have yet to see a game where he works with the pressure of only having three subs, so at the moment, we don’t know what his starting XI is.
    6. Fred, Keita, Ederson, and Fabio Santos missed the game due to injuries. Yet I felt that Lyon had so many players available despite that.
    7. True we were the side that gave up a goal (it was on a stupid corner), but for the most part, Lloris had nothing to do whereas Flavio Roma was busy all match (he had a good game fyi).

I didn’t get to watch the entire game, so I know I missed a lot of stuff. I’ll try to find a torrent, but if any of you watched the game, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
