Who’s Your MVP?
By: John | May 3rd, 2009This is kind of a cheesy post, but since news about Lyon is so scant these days(All I really care about are matches and transfer gossip anyway), I thought I’d break the midweek paucity of posts as of late with a question. I saw this article on goal.com last week, and it rates the best OL players this season i.e., who the author thought was the best/were the best player/s this season.
Anyway, I didn’t have time, nor do I really know how to put together a formal poll, so I thought I’d just get the ball rolling and let you guys hash-it-out in the comments section. I know there are still several fixture to go before the end of the season and this may seem premature, but judging by the way Lyon’s been playing lately, I doubt that any single player will do anything so spectacular in the final stretch- please someone prove me wrong- that will make you change your minds from now until the final fixture. So.. the question: Who are your top five most valuable players- if you have that many- and why?

Puel seems scizophrenic lately. In reference to that alleged altercation he got into with Santos, I don’t know why the hell he didn’t start with Kallstrom. I mean, the last couple of games he puts Kallstrom at LB- I assume for more offense- leaving a massive hole defensively at LB; he moves away a bit from his defensive style and starts off on an offensive foot; good. Then vs. Valenciennes, instead of playing Kallstrom at DM, he puts in Santos and reverts back to his defense first strategy, knowing that we can’t put a ball in the back of the net, even if the opposing team retired their keeper from the pitch! The only thing I can figure is that he wanted some offensive firepower on the bench for late in the game.

Juninho first, Lloris last. I hope the honeymoon will end soon and people will realize how much Lloris sucks. Cheers

mrCham – you must be some kind of crazy and stupid peoples. Lloris sucks?? What do you think who save Lyon more than milion times this season?? Who??

if i had to give the rest of the list it would have to be :
2. Juninho
3. Makoun
4. Toulalan
5. EdersonPosted from

Well, I can see MrCham’s point in some ways. Lloris has been doing really well when you look at his skills, but he didn’t replace Coupet in the locker room or on holding the defense. BUT, this comes with time, and in a few yers time, he will have everything for him.

I know we have too many midfielders, but I really like this kid: http://www.lequipe.fr/Football/breves2009/20090505_141726_feghouli-a-un-bon-de-sortie.html

i posted this question in the previous thread but it was the last thing there before this one came up, so i suspect nobody saw it:
anybody heard anything about OL coming to north america for some friendlies this summer?
they mentioned possible dates in montreal and toronto on CBC radio the other day… if it’s true that’d be great – i’ll start saving up some eggs for tossing at Puel right now.

Well, they were suppose to tour America (northwest, to be accurate…..seattle and portland) last year, but then abruptly canceled. I think Inara posted it back in June or July. Look it up in the archives.

I’m watching Chelsea-Barca and Essien just scored an outrageous goal. He’s the only ex-Lyon player that brings a tear to my eye when I watch him play for another club. Carew stir something up as well, but mostly just from the fact that we gave him up for Baros!!

Essien is a massive player, who probably would have got this team the title this year by himself

to john : what about abidal ?

Ronald: I was thinking of Abidal today vs. Chelsea, but his attitude the last season he was here made me dislike him. Even though I didn’t follow Lyon before ‘07, I heard Essien was screaming to leave, and I don’t know how that translated to his play on the pitch, but he’s so f##king talented he would have to be forgiven. I also miss Squillaci and wish we could get Kanoute back.

Ronan: Players like the Buffalo only come along once-in-a-lifetime.
On another note, I’m watching Lyon vs. Milan, 2nd leg of he CL 4/4/06. We didn’t have Essien, but what a team!!! A bunch hungry killers!!! Beautiful attacking football! And I can’t believe my eyes: Fred actually looked like striker back then.Posted from

More than any other player, the person I miss the most is GERARD HOULLIER!!!

nah, Essien wanted to leave badly, enough to the point he wouldn’t train for us. Biggest disappointment for me about the Essien situation was that he seems like a calm likable person, but to demand to leave that was unseen….and it lead to what it lead.

what I dont understand is that some of the players who have left on unsavoury terms, end up advising Lyon on signings and keep in touch with the club even when they are playing in another country.

Did they leave because Lyon did something to them or just because they wanted to join bigger clubs, and like petulant brats did all they could to expedite/force a transfer? If Lyon were at fault, I imagine they wouldn’t have any connection with the club.
