Pretty Stadium Pictures…and a Video Too!
By: Inara | January 10th, 2008Hey, just because it’s January doesn’t mean that the only thing Lyon care about is the mercato! At least Aulas hasn’t forgotten. Project OL Land is going full speed ahead. Today, he presented more stadium information at a press conference, and even more interesting, the results of weeks of polling in the Decines area, where the stadium will be built.

To get the boring details out the way, the poll surveyed the people of Lyon, Decines, and the surrounding region to see what they thought about OL as a club as well as about OL Land. Apparently, 95% of the people surveyed agree that OL have a strong reputation, and 92% of those believe that OL enhance the reputation of Lyon in France, and another 74% believe that OL do so abroad as well. Regarding OL Land specifically, 73% of those polled have heard of the project (91% of those in Decines). Of those 73%, approximately 76% are in favor of Project OL Land. Only 10% strongly oppose it, and the other 14% have minor complaints.
So what’s the point of the poll? Well, it tells Aulas what areas they need to work on with OL Land. If residents are worried about noise, the club will have to appease their fears. If traffic control is a problem, better roads will have to be built. See the full presentation here. But the most important news is that Lyon will be applying for a building permit this June!! They hope to start construction at that time, and by then, the stadium should have a name.

The plans for the stadium looks amazing.
Surely Lyon deserves such an awesome stadium.
The sooner it’s built, the better

Ronan, don’t forget OL will have more tickets money and won’t have to pay to play in this stadium, which is not the case with Gerland.
And we are still waiting for the name of this stadium ! We are pratically sure that it will be an asiatic brand.
Which one ?Maybe we can bet !?
I guess… “LG’s stadium”.
Because Life is Good with OL, and we want “que… Lyon Gagne”
LG is a south corean brand.
Any ideas ?Posted from

personally i’m only lukewarm for this project… my personal wish would have been for gerland to have the corners filled in, that could have brought attendace to about 55,000, but the original shell is a historical landmark (more due to the local architect who designed it than its own merits)… it’s only function these days is so i can tell my son with a fond smile, “see boy, back when i started coming to gerland we used to have to sit way back here”… to which he answers, “jeez dad, you’ve told me that like a HUNDRED times, are you losing it?” ah the joys of fatherhood…
anyway, i wasn’t even sure décines was in france until they started this OL-land (for me, asia begins in bron) and it’s a trek. our old apt. was about 100 yards from the tramway that goes to décines, but in any case they’ll hopefully extend the metro to the new stadium, there’s no way the tram can handle that kind of volume…
as for the stadium itself the first pictures i saw seemed better, more angular, more assymetric, this looks too timid to be great architecture… but don’t mind me, i like candlestick better than whatever the latest name for china basin is…
btw, did you ever realize just how far away from the action the virage nord used to be? gerland in those days…
