For the Ladies: Boyz + Ink

By: Inara | June 22nd, 2008

Last week, Lyon Foot published a hot collection of Lyon players with tattoos. It’s a different sort of look at OL players, whose reputations normally come across as nice family guys. Which they still are, but sometimes we like to pretend they can be badass.

For me, the biggest surprise was Anthony Mounier. I mean, wow. I can now say that I’m sorry he might be going to Nice next season. Anthony Reveillere is classy with his tat, and I’ve developed a new appreciate for Cesar Delgado.

Mathieu Bodmer, Fred, and Fabio Santos, who have tattoos of their own, are missing from this spread.

I’ve had to track down these pics from various websites, so quite a few of them are watermarked (sorry). I couldn’t get them from the magazine directly because it’s not available in the US, and the online edition doesn’t allow copying or downloading of images. Boo.

Thanks to Jennifer for bringing this to my attention.

Enjoy!

Tx Inara - great photos, they made me smile and yes who would have thought that sweet Anthony Mounier looks like that underneath.
But I really don’t get tatoos - I can’t help imagining what they’ll look like a few decades from now on saggy skin and without that great muscle structure to support them.

Storm: I’m not a big tattoo fan myself, but I really like the way Lyon Mag shot these photos. And anyway, who wants to imagine anyone, tattooed or not, with saggy skin and loose muscles?

diamond_intheback: Audi is the club car, so all the players get to drive around the really cool ones. I have some promotional shots of players with their cars somewhere on my computer, so I’ll dig them up. I don’t know what kind of Audi they get, maybe Storm or Guignol have more info.

According to Massaer, Lyon are asking Marseille for 17m for Ben Arfa, and that Aulas will let Puel talk to Ben Arfa first. He’s right in that this will be the transfer saga of L1 this summer.

Baros looks likely to leave, Bolton have offered 5m. Werder are interested in Fred, as is Roma. Fred only has a year left on his contract and hasn’t responded to the proposed extension. Lyon will probably sell Fred before allowing him to walk off free.

Sevilla is offering 14m for Kallstrom, which I think Lyon will take. They are also putting pressure for Squillaci.

OL players have the Audi they chose.
    And sometimes they can change.
Benzema had a TT just after having his driving license.

And rather neatly, when the players change cars, one of the local Audi dealers then resells the ex players cars. They give the full spec and obviously details of which player was the previous ‘owner’. Probably the only new cars that don’t depreciate at great pace.

About 18 months ago there were cars from Cris, Clerc and Toulalan for sale. One was a 4 X 4, the other two were TTs and all three were black. La Toule had one of the TTs btw.

About six months ago they were just about all driving around in black Q7s (I think Juni made a small exception and chose grey).
Rather bizarely Govou was featured recently endorsing the Smart car! (a complete lack of credibility, I don’t think Govou would be seen dead in a Smart car). Not sure the Smart car would fit in with these photos either (and yes they are stunningly shot - cars, muscles and tatoos included).

with Fred possibly on the move, does that mean managment is serious about letting him go to bring in Diego Milito ?

and about Sevilla’s transfer request, In my best Aulas witty impersonation - ” They have good taste ” lol.

If Fred leaves, I’m sure Lyon will bring in someone else, and I don’t think the club will skimp. They have cash to spend and for once, Aulas looks more than happy to spend it. The question is, even with money to burn, will we be able to get our targets? Puel likes Milito, but he’s got other clubs interested in him too, not just OL. Same goes for Luis Fabiano. Lyon are also interested in Elmander, who I don’t really want.

FYI, Bordeaux signed Gouffran. They’re keeping their squad together plus getting in some good recruits - Gouffran, Gourcuff, possibly Silvestre. They really want the title next season. Marseille are trying to be ambitious themselves by getting Ben Arfa. So Lyon really will have their hands full next season both domestically and in Europe. It makes total sense why Puel is so focused on having depth because L1 won’t be a walk in the park next year.

Off topic post, and I don’t post very often, but I know there have been comments about Americans (or the lack of) in Ligue 1 here before. So…

    http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/20062008/58/ligue-1-bocanegra-joins-rennes.html

Bocanegra is now a jouer of Stade Rennais! As of a few days ago. I hope he shows why he is the USA captain and potentially has an awesome experience (enjoying a league where there is some skill, enjoying the culture, playing for a good team and against talented attackers) that helps convince other Americans to try their luck with more than crappy English teams.

I think that people like Michael Bradley for example would enjoy playing for mid-table Ligue 1 teams and become much more capable internationals as a result. Although I just use him as an example, he is doing pretty well for himself right now.

Incredible! Of all the good news I’ve had about Lyon in the past few days, the one I read this morning knocked me off my feet! If the Serbian media are to be believed, Lyon is going to play a friendly in Belgrade on july 23rd against Partizan Belgrade, and the’ve also promised to field the best possible starting XI! I always thought about going somewhere to see Lyon, but I couldn’t dream Lyon would actually come to me! (especially since our football clubs can’t really qualify for the CL in recent years). Woohoo! And since I’m no Partizan fan, I guess I’ll have to infiltrate the stadium… :)

I’m sorry, I really had to share this with you. I really am astonished and extremely happy! (and also hopeful that this news is correct).

Nicolas, you are so lucky! You have to take tons of pics and post them so the rest of us can live vicariously through you. And since it’s a friendly, the players will probably be more available to the fans, so you might even be able to meet/get autographs from some of them.

Lyon may also play a friendly against Dinamo Bucharest around that time.

Unfortunately for us American fans, Puel convinced Aulas not to bring Lyon to the US, so no Lyon-Timbers friendly. Booo. Puel feels that a trip abroad during such a critical time isn’t a good idea, especially since international players will be on vacation until July 15th.

Minal: I was so excited when I read about that the other day. I really hope that Boca playing in L1 convinces more Americans to follow French football. And maybe his presence would convince other Americans to follow. I agree that players like Michael Bradley would benefit more from playing in L1 than the EPL. I’ve always been a big advocate for American ballers in France.
