Newcastle has a nice stadium with good support like Lyon, but Newcastle as a city, no thank you. I believe it was Ginola’s wife that wept when she was driven through town when she and David first moved there. Its a dull, drab and boring place unfortunately, and the weather is shit. Sounds like Upstate New York where Im from! Anyways, Claudio will probably return to Lyon one day as a coach, so seeing as how he only has 2-3 years with Newcastle, why not keep the family in Lyon.

Oh English journalism can get much worse than the Daily Mail – holding up the rear is the Daily Mirror, The Sun and the Sunday Sport all of which have a love of gossip (especially the less accurate sort) and sport. Sadly they’ve also got strong circulations. I’m sure these all ran with the story.

I remember reading a little time ago a report on Teddy Sheringham, which was trying to uncover the magic of his ability to play in EP until almost 40 years old. His diet was terrible and he seemed to have no awareness that it might be any different. Amazing.

And yes who would swap Lyon for Newcastle (though the people are very warm and I’m sure will have taken Cacapa and his smile to their hearts)…

btw, malouda was not a bitch about leaving OL, he was standup about it… and his parting words were don’t worry about my replacement, hatem will fill the bill nicely.

as for captain claudio, his permanent residence is still lyon (if you know newcastle…) and his family i believe is still here, we have friends who go to church with them.

first of all, you can bet the daily mail overblew his comments unmercifully; that’s a tabloid journalist’s job, the english are better at it than anyone, and the DM is the pinnacle.

the plane back from lithuania is not just a question of personal convenience: Ol, and most big clubs do it because airports and airplanes can be as tiring as matches, as those of you who do much of that sort of thing know.

complaining about london traffic is OK when the DM tears up mayor “red ken livingstone about it, but johnny foreigner better not dare!

as for diet, flo’s not on about soggy chips and mushy peas compared to haute gastronomie, but about but about healthy eating (and healthy NOT drinking…) that’s what got le guen in trouble at rangers, and it may be reason n°1 why france and italy were WC finalists and england is the laughing stock of europe.

lastly, lyon is a great place to live, but barcelona is a marvelous city… i imagine abidal will get used to it, i know i sure could!

Not at any of the three Barnes and Nobles I frequent in Boston. I can however get FIFA, World Soccer, Champions, Calcio Football, Soccer USA, 90, and the monthly club magazines of Chelsea and Manchester United. France Football used to be available at this bookseller near Harvard Square, but he stopped carrying it because not enough people bought it.

It’s in last tuesday’s France Football with eric Abidal on the cover with Malouda himself and Cacapa.
I guess I’ll have to scan those at some point. And believe me, he didn’t seem that unhappy with London.
the title was “malouda, Marche à Londres” which is a funny pun on “Marche à l’ombre”. The pun means he’s a hit in London.
The intro goes “Arrivé L’été dernier à Chelsea, l’ancien attaquant de Lyon s’est acclimaté sans problèmes.Il a construit un cocon autour de sa famille, et ne songe qu’à bosser et à découvrir son nouvel environnement.”.
I’m gonna have to scan those articles in a few days.

You know, the minute I read the articles, I was sure it had been skewed in some ways by the English press. I mean, they can turn “I am committed to Lyon for now” into “I hate my club and want to leave right now!” Still, it was too good to pass up. Massaer, where did you see his original interview? I’ve been looking for the French one and can’t find it – just the English ones.

Malouda has denied the English versions, and I believe him, but I do think he’s unhappy in London. London is a great city, but I don’t think he expected to miss Lyon. None of the players who leave ever do – they always assume that everything is so much better at Barca/Juventus/Madrid/Chelsea. He’ll eventually adjust, he’s a professional, but he might be regretting some of his declarations in the press this summer.
