Also, there is a very interesting interview of Puel on OL’s mainpage. Two things stuck out:

First, there are two separate pre-trainings planned. The first will take place at Tignes and will consist of players who didn’t have international duty as well as youth. Puel says that he will be paying close attention to the kids and to the academy to see how they can be integrated with the senior team. The second recovery will start on July 15, when the internationals will return from vacation. Then Puel will spend time with those players getting them back into shape while also making the entire group come together in terms of cohesiveness and fitness. He says that’s why he vetoed the USA trip.

The second thing is that while talking about Squillaci (Puel hasn’t ruled out his departure but is putting him in the plans for next year), Puel said that his intention wasn’t to replace departing all departing players. Also, he wants to finish up Lyon’s mercato – arrivals and departures – by July 31st.

And now that I think about it, has every club started training except Lyon (who aren’t starting until June 30 I think)?

We might be too late for Zhirkov. His value has shot up in the 15m – 20m range according to his agent, and by now, he probably has bigger/wealthier clubs interested in him.

Also, Lyon’s website is claiming that they have not reached a deal with Marseille and that they are not allowing Ben Arfa to take his medical there yet.

I was also surprised of the tranfer fee (only 11 million), while Nasri left for much more! But thinking a bit more about it, I realize Lyon didn’t have to pay anything to get Ben Arfa (straight from Clairefontaine), so excluding the salary, it is 11 million for JMA without having to negotiate. Ben Arfa must really have sucked a lot in the locker room for JMA to accept any offer.

It is nice though to sell such a player to Marseille. Marseille supporters will be awful for a while, but it improves the image of Lyon as well as the team atmosphere.
I can’t wait for Lyon-Marseille, and Marseille-Lyon… a shame I probably won’t be able to see those games.

To echo many of you, the Ben Arfa transfer seems to be the organization drawing a line with those to fail to buy into the ‘orginizational culture.’ Even though it seems to be a temporary set back (and when Hatem scores on us next seasons it’ll seem even bigger) in the long run any organization run in this manner will be better off for it. I’ll give 7 championships in a row as evidence that the front office knows what it’s doing.

In fact, I think Ben Arfa’s exciting style of play as the only reason people miss him that much. Would you rather have Malouda there or BA? For me there is no question who scared defenses more on a consistent basis. Hopefully we’ll find a true replacement for Florent with BA gone.

Oh, be sure I agree with Lyon, Pride of Lyon.
I totally think that Marseille is the club for a player like Ben Arfa, you’re right.
But I’m not a Marseillais supporter, so that’s not my preoccupation.
I’m just fed up with all this Marseillais who talk too much, and won’t stop now that they have buy one of our diamond for only 12 millions…
Look at OLweb forum. They’ve already begun. Don’t like that mentality.
