Bad News! Clerc Out With Knee Injury
By: Inara | August 11th, 2008Francois Clerc’s “slight knock” to the knee ended up being more serious than everyone first thought. He’s torn the anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee, which means he’ll be out for about five to six months.
Poor Clerc. Just when his career at Lyon and for Les Bleus was starting to take off.

Oh the emo. It kills me so much.
WHY OH WHY does this ALWAYS happen? Especially when Lyon play against Toulouse?
With Clerc out, Lyon are exceedingly shallow in the fullback department. Anthony Reveillere (thank god his transfer to Fiorentina never happened) can no longer deputize for Fabio Grosso at left back, so Puel will have to purchase two fullbacks, one for the left and one for the right, and he needs to do this before the transfer window shuts down (which is in less than three weeks). The only other possibility is if Puel decides to promote Lamine Gassama, but he’s never played a pro game in his life, and Puel himself said that he might not be ready for the responsibility.
Geez. Toulouse really are a bitch to play against.

If Lyon don’t bring in defensive reinforcements Bodmer could be playing in the back for the rest of the season. You would think OL would have learnt their lesson by now. :/

I think Gassama should be promoted. But I agree that we need another player, either a right back or left back to be brought in as cover. Preferably a left back that can play on the right as needed. Any options?

Lyon should field their reserve team everytime they play Toulouse. Did Beynie spend anytime at RB during the friendlies? And I don’t know if Puel is contemplating the brilliant idea of using Mensah and Boumsong as cover at LB.

Fucking Toulouse. But we destroy them. Benzema twice and Jean Il Makoun score his first goal in Lyons shirt. Now Lorient is next. We want win.

Signing a lamine diatta type of player would be nice, we got him for free, he signed a short-term contract and didnt even complain when he didnt start games…I wish there were more people like him…That would allow Lyon to make a move for a decent left back.

Well now we could of used Nadir Belhadj right about now but anyways i think we should promote from the academy you never know what kind of great player you can find!

Poor Clerc, he was actually starting to be one of my favourite OL players, his crosses and right flank runs are some things we will sorely miss in the next six months. However, this might actually be a somewhat good thing if it makes Puel buy a quality full-back and if Revelliere, encuraged by the chance he has been given, starts playing with a lot more confidence and desire to prove himself. All in all, a terrible news for Lyon and a very very sad event for the poor man, but unlike Cris or Coupet last year, it looks like Clerc actually is a replacable player. I definetely hope he is.

Five OL players have been called up by Domenech: Lloris, Boumsong, Toulalan, Govou, and Benzema. Clerc is injured or he would have gotten a callup as well.

As for possible call ups, there is Lamine Gassama and Loic Abenzoar as right backs, and maybe Aurlien Badin, although I think he left this summer. As for left back, we have Thomas Fontaine, although Nicolas Seguin can play left back as well. Mickeal Fourtier is another option for right back, but he is more of a center back. Sebatien Faure is already in the team along with Sandy Paillot, so I think Puel will atleast consider it.

It appears that Gassama will be promoted as RB, and we’re going to recruit a LB.
I think this is the best option, else in January there will be a huge imbalance between the two sides.

Hi there
anybody know if Setanta will be showing ligue 1 games this year? Their schedule doesn’t seem to have any game programmed.

Salieri, it looks like you are right: i just read an interview on football365.fr in which Puel explains that we are looking to bring a lb, Gassama will be promoted.
(http://www.footmercato.net/l-ol-pret-a-se-servir-dans-la_article24091.html) That left back could be a 17-year-old player from Lens, who has yet to make is professional debut?Posted from

OFF TOPIC :
Say “Hello” to our new wonderful Goalkeeper, Hugo Vampire Lloris !
http://www.sport24.com/football/equipe-de-france/actualites/je-ne-m-y-attendais-pas-181973/This picture tends to explain why I sometimes think he “spread his wings and fly away”. I believe he can fly.
For sure. He’s a bat.

Muco, would this 17-year old left back who has yet to make his professional debut be Timothee Kolodzieczak, who played at the u-17 championships this summer? If so, that would be a great signing.

That’s the one.
Just another French prospect that Lyon are looking to sweep up.
I watched some of the U17 games, so I can’t remember much about the players, how did TK do?

He scored the winner against Turkey which was a fantastic finish off of a great interchange between Salibur and Tafer. He is essentially a left winger but has learned the left back role well, I think he could be a good player some day, but I wouldnt use him as a Ligue 1 back up just yet, he needs some time to develop physically. I would prefer using Fontaine, but I still say buy Kolodzieczak, as Lyons academy has too few left backs right now.

Good to hear that the guy has some potential. This being said, it feels like Lyon is one step behind on that issue: we should have a young prospect like Kolodzieczak to prepare the future but we don’t even have two available players for that spot atm: asking him to step up and cover for Grosso is a bit foolish isnt it?
