Benzema Extends Contract
By: Inara | August 10th, 2007Karim Benzema has extended his contract with Lyon until June 30th, 2012.
This is wonderful news for OL fans because he’s seen as Lyon’s long-awaited big striker. Though he’s only 20 years old, he’s been contributing valuable goals and assists since 2005. Despite being injured for nearly half the season last year, he still managed eight goals, as well as one during his debut for the France National Team.

Even Raymond loves him!
A favorite of both Thierry Henry and Nicolas Anelka, Benzema is the most talented of the other strikers his age and is tipped to have a big future. He is part of the “new” golden generation, which features Jeremy Menez, Hatem Ben Arfa, and Samir Nasri, all Euro U-17 champions.
However, instead of letting all of this get to his head, Benzema’s feet are firmly planted on the ground. He knows he has a lot of work to do before he can fulfill the promise of his expectations. What I love about him is that he genuinely wants to play for Lyon and help them in their ambitions. Unlike many other kids who want to move onto bigger clubs, he wants to stay at the club of his youth and become their star (read an interview by him here).

Yahay. Great news. Now lets watch Project Benzema unfold over the next couple of seasons.

I’m fairly confident that this will be Benzema’s year. Provided he can stay healthy, he has everything going from him: confidence of Perrin, Domenech, AND his teammates, and what’s more, he has clear understanding of his limits – and the possibilities.

Has Fred met with Aulas yet? I’ll be at Nevada Smith’s in NYC tomorrow to watch the match, will any theoffsiders be there?

I’m going to Nevada Smith’s once Liga begins, Ray.

There hasn’t been any mention about it, but whatever happens, I’m sure Fred and Aulas will work it out. Fred will be here next year for sure, though he may or may not accept a contract extension (I think he will – Lacombe said they’d be meeting with him soon about that).
I don’t know if any offsiders will be there – I had forgotten they would be broadcasting Toulouse-Lyon there – I should have put in an announcement. Let us know if you meet any other L1 fans!
I wish I lived in NYC. I have yet to find a place to watch L1 in Boston.

Sadly, I’ll be going back to finish my master’s at the University of Hawaii on Thursday. Tomorrow will be my last at Nevada Smith’s for awhile. I know that it’s a big bar for PSG fans…
If any offsiders decide to show up, I’ll be wearing a Champion’s League Fred shirt!

Yo! Benzema maybe be the best player to ever come out of Lyon. His possibilities are endless. When you see him and Nasri, you know France will be winning another world cup soon.
