Fred For Sale
By: Inara | December 20th, 2007
Question: If your coach calls you mentally unprepared to make the bench, if your club posts a statement on their official website saying that you can only leave on a permanent deal this winter, and if another attacker has been all but purchased, what does that say about your future at the club?
If your answer is either “grim” or “fucked,” pat yourself on the back.
Fred just wants to be score 25 goals a season. Not sitting on the bench as the backup to a 20 year old kid. Whil he’s generous enough to say that he doesn’t wish an injury on Karim Benzema, he wants people to point to him and say, “There’s our number 9!” And though he’s under contract until 2009, he’s not sure how long he can stand his situation.
Good luck with that, Fred. Maybe one of these clubs can put him out of his misery.

ronan… You don’t seem to get your head around the idea that most players prefer a better salary and a starting spot in a 2nd rank English/Italian/Spanish club over a bench role in Lyon… so Utaka wouldn’t really care about Lyon’s offers, to be honest. Nor would Bianchi or Mido. So of your six “names”, we’re down to three : Cardozo, Love and Alves. And Love and Cardozo are both unavailable during this winter break (Love is Champions League-tied to CSKA, Cardozo is Champions League-tied to Benfica), so Lyon wouldn’t have any reason to buy them before the summer transfer window… So what? Alves? Sure, he’d be a nice catch. But how would he react to being on the bench? He didn’t want to leave during the summer, and with Heerenveen is well on the way to getting a crack at the Champions’ League next season… So either he wants to go to a “big” club or nothing, or he wants to go to the Champions’ League with Heerenveen. So Lyon would have a hell of a time convincing him to come as a 3rd striker behind Benzema and Fred…
Whilst on the other hand Delgado seems to be ready to battle it out with Fred for a place on the bench at Lyon and although he’s not the biggest talent west of Benzema he’s a more than decent striker who would fit in well at Lyon thanks to his versatility.

I would like Cardozo, but they’res no way benfica would let him go after they just paid heaps for him. Get villa or Zigic when they leave valencia.

what impressed me the most was the way google translated the article… taking a page out of wikipedia to let real people correct what a computer can only make a dog’s breakfast of. the result is very good indeed.
and i get the article translated from german to french, whereas i assume most of you are getting english. evidently there’s a google setting that recognizes what language i’m likely to want. all very impressive.

I also get it in german… Because the adress is http://…langpair=fr|de[...] I guess that’s why Jordo complained… All you need to do it switch the “de” to “en” and you get pidgin english.

Ronan, I hate to say this, but as a Rennes fan I have to say that I doubt Utaka would have wanted to join Lyon to be on the bench. Why? Because he left Rennes for the same reason as he left Lens : he wasn’t 100% sure to start. So Utaka wouldn’t join to be on the bench. And Villa wouldn’t leave to come to Lyon… When Chelsea, Liverpool, Barcelona, AC Milan and Real Madrid are on tabs to get you, Lyon doesn’t even enter the picture. Oh, and Emanuele “1 goal in 14 games” Calaio? You know he hasn’t yet scored in Serie A this season? Or that he was only a regular scorer for Napoli in Serie B? If you prefer Calaio over Delgado you need help, my good man. Why not buy Boumsong whilst your at it. After all, Boumsong-Anderson would work miracles to hold Tevez and Rooney away from Coupet’s goals, whilst Calaio would surely be a terror that would stop Rio and Vidic from sleeping the night before the game.
Get out and watch some football, honestly.

Ronan, Utaka knew that Rennes were in the running for Wiltord and that Briand had just recieved his first international call-up for France. Briand was pushing Utaka towards the bench because he is a far more consistent performer and has also a lot more talent. In Dréossi’s 4-2-3-1, Briand was preferred over Utaka because he could protect the ball a lot more. So Utaka was playing as a winger or a central midfielder, something Utaka didn’t like much. So when Portsmouth popped in, he was only too happy to follow the lead. He rejected offers from “bigger” clubs, so I guess he was concerned about his playing time. Just like why he came to Rennes from Lens… And anyway, Rennes have had big bench players in the past and present… Emerson : 5M€ (leaving on the 5th of Jan for 7M€) only played 30 minutes this season, Lucas Severino : 140MFrancs (approx. 21M€) played only 72 games in 4 seasons, most as a sub, Dudu Cearense : 8M€ for 14 games over 2 seasons, Luis Fabiano : 12M€ for 11 games over 18 months… Don’t forget that Rennes have the financial backing of the 34th richest man in the world : François Pinault… And when he took control of the club in 1998 he splashed 80M€ over 2 seasons… Mainly on players that never made the cut.
