All Away Tickets for Rangers vs. Lyon SOLD OUT
By: Inara | December 3rd, 2007According to Lyon’s official website, all of the allotted away tickets were sold out in two hours. The club had been planning to sell some of the tickets to the general public on Wednesday but had to cancel that plan. I’m not sure how many tickets Rangers gave to Lyon, probably between 2000 and 2500, and though that number pales in comparison with the number of Scots that will be packed into Ibrox, it’s good to know Lyon will have maximum traveling support.
Also, the Scottish Premier League has agreed to Rangers’ absurd request:
The SPL has agreed to postpone the Clydesdale Bank Premier League fixture between Gretna and Rangers which was scheduled for Sunday 9 December. This follows a request from Rangers supported by Gretna to provide extended preparation time before Rangers Champions League match against Lyon. The Gretna v Rangers Clydesdale Bank Premier League fixture will now take place on Wednesday 16 January 2008, kick-off 7.45pm.
What a joke. I just looked at the SPL table, and Gretna is the last ranked team with a goal differential of -25. That’s worse than any team in L1. Rangers B team should be able to at least eck out a draw with Gretna.
Well, this move might end up biting Rangers in the ass because they’ll have gone over a week without playing. Their “extended preparation time” may cause more harm than good because that will make their early winter schedule quite horrendous.
Regardless, this shouldn’t make a difference in terms of what Lyon will need to do. No matter how fresh Rangers are, Lyon have no excuse if they lose at Ibrox. Part of being a worthy candidate for European glory is overcoming any side, no matter how well rested or defensive they are.

Rangers are some of the worst traveling supporters; they made an absolute mess in Barcelona & pissed on important monuments. Generally speaking, supporters of Scottish clubs don’t travel well in Spain. Hopefully it’ll be different at Lyon. Otherwise…

Oh whoops, it’s the other way around (re Rangers play at home)! Sorry about that. They’re still some of the worst traveling supporters, though!
Good luck.

I’m stealing your thoughts on the game cancellation for a main page article tomorrow. Also stealing your “kiddie table” phrasing. But I’ll give you credit.

This may not be an appropriate word to describe Rangers, but what the hell, PUSSIES.

-a has a point about what happened with Rangers supporters in Barcelona. There are some traveling Rangers fans that have screwed their own team by being idiots both inside and outside of Scotland, and will probably eventually get UEFA action against the team if it continues. They opened the season at Caley Thistle this way, and it was sad to see. Corey, not so much a point as a cheap jab. That would pretty much be the kind of comment I meant, Inara. Let’s just try to keep the name-calling to a minimum and settle it on the pitch.

If I was Lyon I’d be very cautious. That Strasbourg game is a false sense of security, and even they had chances! I just pray we can beat rangers and sign a proper Lyon standard centre half in January.

The Rangers team have been promised a £100,000 (143,000€) bonus per man if they qualify for the next round. Thats a lot of whisky for Ferguson.
