Another %#$@ing Injury

By: Inara | August 29th, 2007

During today’s match against Sochaux, Fabio Santos hurt his knee and had to be taken out of the game. The severity of the injury isn’t known yet, but considering the bad luck hanging over the club…

Well, you can understand why I’ve become a glass half-empty person.

Fabio Santos can now hang out with Juninho, Fred, Cris, Anderson, Hatem Ben Arfa, Patrick Muller, and Gregory Coupet in the doctor’s office while Lyon continue on the their quest to win four trophies this season.

And no, your eyes are not deceiving you. All five of Lyon’s Brazilians are injured.

Seriously, WTF?

How are Lyon supposed to win anything this season if they continue losing one player per match? We’ll be out of healthy players by Christmas!

Either Aulas has pissed off the man upstairs (he did say he wanted to be reincarnated as Jesus Christ), or Lyon’s club doctor is an agent hired by the rest of L1’s clubs.

Worse, Fabio Santos’s injury now leaves Jeremy Toulalan as Lyon’s sole defensive midfielder.

Consider yourselves lucky. We’re just on the verge of becoming Marseille 2002, 2.0. At least you guys won and have some kind of team spirit back.

Better to have the injuries now then at the crucial point in the season where all 4 trophies are decided in two months time. It means that based on the extent of his injury, a replacement will have to be found, and seeing as how you sold Diarra, its gonna be pricey and may throw off the teams chemistry for awhile, but a center back (what ever happened to signing Anderson?) and a DM are a must, and if Fred is not gonna play for us again id assume youd want a striker too. Unless Quentin Bartlet or Bruce NDala are gonna be promoted…

Massaer: I wouldn’t be too harsh. The season only just started, and slumps happen. If people start looking for a scapegoat, it will lead to dangerous territory, starting for Emon.

Corey: I agree. I’m glad OL are having their yearly slump now. Let’s just hope that there isn’t a part 2 in the second half of the season.

Also, Lyon did recruit Cleber Anderson from Benfica to replace Cris, but he has a thigh strain so the club doesn’t want to risk him just yet. I am hoping that Fabio Santos’s injury is minor since temporarily, Bodmer can fill in as DM. Poor guy though. Since coming to Lyon, he’s played in every position except his own!

As for strikers, there was the brief 24 hour Mancini craze which thankfully died down. The last thing we need is Keita v. 2. There is a creepy Adriano rumor floating about. I am not enthusiastic about it because he’s worse than Wiltord and Govou’s partying ways combined, and Aulas hates that. The Julio Baptista rumors are still around and more probable, I think. Real wants something like 20 for Baptista though.

Inara – Yo, it’s so fucking ridiculous the way everybody’s acting like “Hey I did my job but somehow it ain’t working”. Everybody’s trying to cover their asses and we all know the scapegoat strategy never works. You can’t work or base your communication on pleasing the fans. Saying “I’m one of the guys that work doesn’t fly when the whole team sucks”. BUt that’s how Anigo kept his job when Troussier came a few years back.

And apparently, Mancini’s coming to Lyon very soon. An offer of 20 million has been transmittted to Roma

At Inara – What do you mean by Keita v. 2? Has Kader Keita flopped already? All seems to be going so wrong for us at the moment!

Any expectations for Lyon in today’s CL draws? :P
You cant avoid any of the “big” 8 now. Though Arsenal is easiest of all. BTW I have given my predictions on all the groups on CL blog. Do give yours too.

Do you think Beynie is strong enough to perform at least as ‘well’ as Fabio Santos as a DM?

Jo’s prediction for champions league draw was remarkable!

    FC Barcelona
    Lyon
    Stuttgart
    Rangers

It was painful watching for me as we got each team I didn’t want to get – I couldn’t believe yet more bad luck! Being a Fulham and Lyon supporter I’m resigning myself to the fact that whichever team I seem to support seems to get impossibly bad luck :(

    Thank you, Sam !
I was stupefied to see the draw in live… I really thought I found it at 100% !
But I made mistake on Rangers. Never mind. That’s cool for Lyon, I like this group, that’s almost exactly what I wanted.
    :)
