Bayern Munich is the German Lyon

By: Inara | July 16th, 2007

Not only do they both piss all over their domestic competition, rob their league of the best talent, and have the most money, but they now also look alike!

Now if only Lyon could copy Bayern’s prize list…

And they also get all their top players injured.

Except Bayern didn’t do a whole lot of pissing on anyone last season, did they?

True, last year Bayern were crap. But that’s the exception, not the rule. With eight titles in ten years…that’s almost as bad as L1.

Adidas copying Umbro? I agree with Julien that jersey looks pretty fake. Inara, you left me a question before on Fred. And I searched a bit, but wasn’t able to confirm what you had told me. It seems that he has been married for some time and has a daughter Giovanna (born March 8, 2006). Yea, he did go to Cruzeiro to recover from that injury. Cruzeiro has a somewhat renown recovering facility (we better, we always have a double digit amount of players injuring themselves). A lot of our former players have gone there to recover and recently some of Brazil’s famous volleyball team’s players went there to recover. I’m not the Lyon expert here, but in regards to Fred being fired, I really don’t see it happening, you guys paid us €15 or €12 million if I’m not wrong, which I believe was a Cruzeiro record fee. I don’t think you guys will find that money for him even though he is a great player and could have really shown himself in Copa América this summer. In my own opinion (from what I’ve read) he will really become a good player in the next 2 years (maturing and all) and you guys will probably get a good price on him then, €20, €25 million or higher from a club like Real Madrid in the future. I believe that there will be many clubs wanting him, just not now.

Corey: Not really, Bayern have blue and red on their crest and black like white is used by many clubs even if it is not an official club color.

Apparently, Bayern has had uniforms that looked like that in the nineties. I guess they are going retro. Interestingly, Lyon also has a history of the same design (red and blue stripes on either white and black).

AJ, thanks for the info. I also thought Fred was married from before he even came to Lyon, so thanks for confirming it for me. I must have messed up the translation of Perrin then. And I hope you’re right about Fred. He is so talented, but he needs to lose the attitude fast.

Nice how the website calls those shirts Champions League shirts. Wishful thinking. :-)

And a bit of nitpicking about the 8 out of 10 titles for Bayern. Bayern won 6 of 10 Bundesliga titles, so other clubs still have a 40% chance of winning it. ;-)

Jan: Oops, that was a typo on my part. I did mean six – another reason why Bayern and Lyon are alike in all the wrong ways!

Manchester United has won 5 out of 10, Juventus Turin illegally won 5 out of 10 through manipulation, FC Barcelona only won 4 out of 10. Yes 6 out of 10 is a bit much, but other leagues potentially share the same problem I think.

Oh definitely. I think I may have commented on that in another post, but I get really annoyed when people say L1 is weak because of single team domination. Juventus and Real Madrid have both won five titles in a row, Barca, MU, and Liverpool have won four in a row, etc. So I don’t take Lyon (or Bayern’s) winning back to back titles as a sign of weaknness.

But the difference between Serie A, EPL, and La Liga versus the Bundesliga and L1 is that there is only one giant and not two or three. But again, I think that’s a result of the overpowering wealth of the other three leagues, which forces a feudal like system in smaller leagues in order to compensate.
