Double + Double = Quadruple?
By: Inara | June 3rd, 2008Today, OL Féminines defeated PSG 3-0 in the final of the Challenge de France (Women’s French Cup), with goals scored by Shirley Cruz Trana, Louisa Necib, and Camile Abily. This match was held at the Stade de France as the opener to the France-Columbia friendly. The ladies already clinched the league title a few weeks back, so you know what that means….
A DOUBLE!!!

Last year, Lyon made history by becoming the first ever French team to win the league titles in both the men’s and women’s divisions. This time they’ve taken it one step further by winning both doubles. So technically, that’s a quadruple.
How awesome is that?!?!?!
Also, notice how both cups were won at the expense of PSG? I’m just saying…
Let’s take a moment and applaud the ladies for their excellent season. This is their second consecutive year as league champions, and this was the fourth year in a row that they reached Challenge de France final (they lost on penalties in each of the three preceding seasons). The ladies also had a great run in Europe and lost out to Umea in the UEFA Women’s Cup semifinals due to a measly away goal (sound familiar?).
The UNFP recognized the excellent performance of OL Féminines, which is why three of the four players nominated for “Best French Female Footballer of the Year” were from Lyon this year. The trophy was awarded to Sonia Bompastor, making it the second year in a row that a Lyon player won this award. This also means that both the best male and the best female footballer in France are from Lyon (Karim Benzema won the men’s award).
Thanks to the backing of Aulas, the ladies have significantly better facilities and finances than many of their counterparts, both in France and abroad. And if Aulas has his way, soon Lyon will eventually surpass the Scandinavian and German teams to become the face of women’s club football.

I guess we should send the girls to the Us even more than the boys. I heard girls soccer is popular in the US, maybe you could tell me if that’s true or not.
Aulas is really trying to make an empire out of OL… If he stays long enough, he may just make of Lyon a Huge European team on par with Manchester, Real or Milan… We may not have a huge history yet, but history is on the making.

A real quadruple was achieved by the ladies Arsenal team last year when they won the FA Cup,Ladies League,UEFA Cup(since there’s no CL),Carling Cup.And they all have full time jobs! Hope the menfolk add to that next season…

I was at the game, as I brought 90 kids from my work there, and the Lyon girls were really friendly to our young girls. They even gave them their shirts and paused for photos.
Classy!

Laurent Blanc is for real. He saw blood and now he’s going for the fill.
We got Lloris, Ederson, Pjanic so far.
Bordeaux got Gourcuff, Gouffran (agreed to terms, no just transfer fee), and will eventually get Silvestre, who Man U are willing to let go. Plus, Bordeaux says no one will be leaving, just more additions.

Off topic: As Perrin is on the way out, I would like to see Puel in Lyon. He would use young players (read Ben Arfa) and may put Bodmer and Keita in better positions… actually he fits for all the things that went wrong this year apart from the CL experience.

I just can’t wait for the new season to begin! Lyon is going to be so young and strong, Bordeaux will definetely be powerful enough to challenge us for the title, Marseille and PSG will probably improve in an attempt to finally dethrone Lyon, and clubs like Lille and Monaco are sure to shine after a quite dissapointing season. It’s a shame that Lens won’t be in Ligue 1, I’m sure Papin would accomplish much if they weren’t relegated. Anyway, I’m eagerly anticipating the start of the new championship!

Loic Remy just signed with Nice, I dont like that move one bit, since Karaboue signed with Sedan and Pied looks to be headed out as well.
