Injury Updates

By: John | September 25th, 2008

News is slow and I felt like writing about something, so I thought I’d bring everybody up to speed on OL’s injuries, since this weekend we play AS Nancy and next week we’re off to Bayern for match day 2 of the CL next Tuesday. There is good and bad news.

The BAD:

Juninho: Juni had an MRI this week and was diagnosed with a strained adductor. He has been ruled out of Saturday’s L1 match vs. Nancy and Puel said that it is unlikely that he will play in next week’s CL match against Bayern.

The Good:

Francois Clerc: OL team doctor Emmanuel Ohrant had this to say about Clerc’s recovery: ” Francois is very well. We are happy with the rehab, the surgeon has organised things very well. For about two weeks now, he[Clerc]has been with us every morning during the “rest” period of the rehab. The rehabilitation will resume at the Hauteville center on October 6th for two weeks before returning here to Lyon to continue the rehab work. Psycologically, he’s also very focused. He wanted to do so many things, that we were obliged to slow him down at bit. But everything is very well organized, and things are going well.

Fabio Grosso: Grosso is recovering from his fractured ribs. Puel had this to say about Grosso: “Fabio is doing better! He resumed sprinting, and speed and ball work. One is optimistic about the upcoming days, but he is still feeling pain in his flank. When one knows that football is all about multiple contact, it’s better to wait a bit untill he is 100%.” Fabio had resumed running on Monday but took a minor fall and will not resume his workouts untill later in the week.

Kader Keita, Cesar Delgado & Fabio Santos: Both Keita(forearm injury) and Fabio Santos(mandibular-orbital fracture) have been cleared to practice. Keita has already resumed training and on Monday, Santos was cleared 100% by the team doctor. All three will be playing with the CFAs this weekend.

Juninho’s injury is good and bad at the same time. If he doesn’t play against Bayern, this could be the match Lyon needs to get rid of the “Juninho dependance”.
We may just find our new Juninho against Bayern (Ederson or Pjanic). Of course, it is a big bargain because we won’t have our lucky player with us, but let’s think positively.

Even if Juninho recovers soon,he can’t play like before. He’s slow and tires quickly.I see Pjanic and Ederson as perfect playmakers for Lyon in the future.
Keita is a very good player.Hope to see him playing soon.

Lmao lyon never won a title before juni and has had a Juninho dependence for 7 years. The guy already has set up almost all our goals this year. People said he had a bad year last year and he chipped in with doulble digits in goals and assists. Gogs Juninho has still got it and has looked great this year look at his #S. Juninho still has a 2 years in him and we should milk them to the last drop. I highly doubt pjanic and ederson will every be able to replace what he does even in his older years.

I don’t think anyone is saying that Ederson and Pjanic will be better than Juninho in his prime, but in the past years Lyon had this trouble not to be able to create play when Juninho wasn’t on the pitch.
Pjanic or Ederson may be able to change that. If they can already make people forget Juninho is not on the pitch, that would be great.

Juninho doesn’t need to prove anything, he tops my list of legendary Lyon players (Which includes N’Gotty, Laville, Maurice, Giuly, Anderson, Cacapa, Govou, Coupet), and I don’t doubt he’ll keep on writing the legend this year at least.

Ah, j’ai failli oublier Delmotte… lui aussi je l’adorais.

Regarding injuries, can anyone explain me how Keita, who mid-July, I think, was announced off for 3 weeks following a forearm surgery, has just resumed practice, over 2 months later? Am I the only one to find this surprising?

to me, juni is in a legendary status of his own in OL. wouldnt be surprised if tommorrow Aulas called the new stadium “pernambucano Land “.

Of Course, if Juni pay 100 millions euros for it :)

At least, we can say that it’s a good idea Juni cannot play against Nancy, if he really cannot play against Bayern.
So Puel will have one game to find the right guy to replace Juni, and to be ready next tuesday.

    I would try :
    ——–Lloris———–
    Rev – Cris – Bodmer – Mensah
    —-Toulalan – Makoun—-
    Govou – Pjanic – Ederson
    ——– Benzema ——–

I totally agree-Juninho is a living legend. But today, all he has are dangerous free kicks. He doesn’t run and fight like before. He is in condition to play only 1 half time good.We have to develop the young players so that we don’t depend only on Juninho.Every great player should know when he has to retire, like Zidane, when he’s on top.So i suppose this is Juni’s last year in football.

Is there anyone who could translate this, plz?

“Quel regard portez-vous sur la paire Benzema – Fred ?
Il n’y a pas une paire, une association, une équipe-type. Il faut que l’équipe conserve une grande qualité malgré les associations. Karim (Benzema) peut jouer très bien avec Fred mais également avec Pjanic ; Fred peut aussi être très bon avec Pjanic.”

    Thx

it means that the question is “what do you think of the pair Benzema Fred?” and the answer is “Benzema can play very well with Fred, but also with Pjanic.Fred can also be very good with Pjanic.”

Gogs translated the second part of the answer.
The first part is something like that :
“There isn’t only ONE association of player and no starting team. The team has to always have high quality whatever is the association of players on the pitch.”

To say all juninho has is dangerous free kicks is a joke. He creates a ton of play and completes a alot of passes and crosses for us in midfeild. He has alot of experince which we will need in the big games. Look at all the Italian teams with older players that have won the CL. Then take a look at arsenal with there young squad what have they won lately?

    You’re right, Mikep.
I don’t understand some people still can consider Juni as an exclusive “free kicker”. He’s far more than that.
Just look at his beginning of the season.

In the Fiorentina game, Juni looked like he was 18yrs old at at the beginning. He played at a frantic pace, but he ran out of gas before the 2nd half. Juni is a one half player now. Also, he doesn’t have the pace to play on the flanks anymore. He needs to play at central midfielder. He still has a year or two left in him, if he only plays the first half or comes off the bench. Hopefully, he’ll be saved for CL games.

yea i think ur right 60-70 min is good for him. U have to remember in the Fiorentina game he played a full 90 min and got a brace a few days before. His 2nd half preformence was not because of this. Still he made that 2nd goal. He can play 90 but u need to him alot of rest.

mikep: Yes. I forgot he played 90mns the weekend before. Still not bad for a 30+ year old. But he can’t be played like that.
