Just when you thought the injury crisis was over….
By: Inara | April 12th, 2007In a year that has been plagued by injuries, last week, there was a brief light at the end of the tunnel when for the first time since the season started, all 26 OL players were fit and healthy.
That lasted for all of five minutes.
Juninho was hurt against Bordeaux, and during last weekend’s game against Valenciennes, both Jeremy Toulalan and Karim Benzema had to leave the field due to injuries. Juni and Toulalan should be fit soon, but Benzema’s IRM revealed a two centimeter tear in his thigh (the third time he’s had the same injury in the space of five months!), and he’ll now be out for at least 15 days.
Today, Lyon’s infirmary had four new patients.
Sylvain Wiltord is sick, Sidney Govou is suffering from “infiltration” (not sure what that is, not sure I want to know either), Fred hurt his foot, and Remy Vercoutre hurt his tibia during practice.
Thankfully, none of these are serious or long term, though it might affect Houllier’s lineup against Sedan.
But I have to ask, is there some curse hanging over the Stade de Gerland? This year was an attackers crisis. Last year was the defenders crisis, which was so severe that Florent Malouda had to play at left back in order to alleviate all the injuries the back line kept receiving. Is next season going to be the year of the broken down midfield?
