Letter to Lyon

By: Inara | January 23rd, 2008

Dear Lyon,

I know I’ve ignored you the past couple of days, but I just had to get away from you.

Now that I’ve had sufficient time to think about things, I have a few things to say.

First of all, I don’t blame you for losing to Lens. You had just lost Anderson, and we all know that your defense, as ragtag as it is, isn’t so bad as to make it easy pickings for a team like Lens, who have minimal firepower. No, I know you were morally down and depressed. It’s hard to play with drive and energy when you feel that every time you get back on your feet from one disaster, another one immediately strikes from behind. But I still have faith that we’ll win the French title, and I haven’t written off progress in the Champions League.

I’m even okay with the arrivals of Cesar Delgado and Marc Crosas. Especially Crosas, who while young, looked pretty decent out there. In fact, he seemed to be doing the best out of your three midfielders. What I don’t get is your reticence in getting a defender. Actually, it makes no sense. You should have been after one even before Anderson got injured. But even after he got injured, you waited until the Lens game.

And all you could come up with was Boumsong? I mean, I know options are limited, but…BOUMSONG? Come on, what happened to Sébastien Pocognoli, who isn’t cuptied and at least more reassuring? I mean, are you trying to make yourself look like an idiot?

That’s my problem with you. I feel like you’re living two different lives. During the day, you’re a gentleman, decent, hardworking, ambitious – someone I’d be proud to take home to my parents. But at night, you start smoking who knows what, hang out with a bunch of low lives, and make it clear that you don’t mind sleeping around with cheap hookers in sleazy, downtrodden motel rooms.

Don’t get alarmed – this isn’t a breakup letter. One doesn’t throw away several years of love and commitment over short period of restlessness. I understand that you have wild oats to sow, have to rebel against the big clubs by doing things your way, and you don’t want to settle down into getting 2.5 trophies every year.

But I have expectations too. And if you don’t start acting on the “give” part of our give and take relationship, then I’ll have to take an even longer break from you and seriously evaluate where our relationship is headed in the next few years. It’s time to grow up, Lyon. It’s time to realize that you are in fact a big club. You have money. You have power. You have to learn to use it properly.

Don’t break my heart.

Love Inara

PS: Please don’t mess up your home game with Lorient today. They already beat us once this year, and they aren’t such a great team to deserve to manage it twice.

How is Boumsong signing for us if he just scored in the copa italia for Juve?

Boumsong is not that bad a player. He was a very good defender in Auxerre. He was also excellent last year with Juventus. I would be happy to see him in Lyon.

As for the 2-0 win against Lorient. Lyon had a good game. Toto saved us (again) in the first half, but then it was a one sided game. Baros is leaving apparently, that’s a shame. Let’s just hope Fred goes back to work. He wasn’t bad tonight.

LOL! That was hilarious Inara. I think you are wrong about Boumsong though. I always have been quite high on him. I think he is just stuck in a bit of a pinch in that corrupt Italian league. If he is back in France with Lyon or PSG he will be just fine and be an excellent addition to either side.

    Cheers!

Ranieiri finally decided that Boumsong had to stay at Turin, to play against Inter. He will effectively sign tomorrow for 3 millions and a 3 years and a half contract.

About Fred, tonight, he had a very good game. I’m happy about that. That was a long time I did not see him with some confident when he touch the ball.

Speaking of Boumsong, he scored tonight against Inter to earn Juventus a draw!

Lyon has made an offer for Ederson ! 10 to 12M.
Nice(and Ederson) will answer next week. Very good news.

Aulas has confirmed negotiations with Nice for Ederson, looking good so far. Doesnt help us now though, we need a DM still unless Beynie is allowed to play.

I hate the arogance of Lyon, i mean yer really smart move letting Baros go and playing the majority of the season with 2(really one as fred isnt interested-”dont blame him im starting to feel like that with Lyon”.)strikers, i dont understand why o why Aulas is letting a striker go out on lone when we now have two, its not like tite ass Aulas will replace them, and if they do there like cheap downsyndrome players. Didnt see the logic in Anderson and dont in Boumsong, impression of Aulas-”hhmmm Perrin,Lacombe and Garde, we need a defender so why not buy two of the worst in europe hay ?” Aulas u BASTARD.

What the hell are you saying? of course we need to let one of the center forward go, 2players for one position is enough. Baros needs playtime (for the Euro) and he won’t get it at Lyon if Fred stays.
As for Fred, he was very good against Lorient (1 assist and was close to scoring) and showed motivation so i dont know why you’re saying that.

And of course there was logic in recruiting Anderson.
I’m not saying the recruitment was perfect (the actual facts are speaking) but there was logic, as with Boumsong.

Toto, are you thick or wot. Which “big” clubs do you know which only have two strikers? otherwise if we only have two strikers we can only play 4-3-3, as 4-4-2 will be to risky for injuries and plus i feel the attack need freshining up a bit anyway. Anderson and Boumsong are two useless defenders, so yer get a defender but why two spastic ones who shit themselves when we are away to metz or something ? The comments u made are not at all right !

And what about YOUR comments, Ronan ?
I’m beginning to be fed up with what I read of you.

We have Fred, Benzema and Remy as strikers.
PLUS govou, Keita and DELGADO who can help if we have injury problems.
And Ben Harfa can play as a second striker in 4-4-2.

Can you do something else than criticize everytime you write something ???

Had a ? for somebody. I’m new to the game and never played it. Was wondering how it is that Bodmer, who is an offensive MF, can’t play DMF, but can play CB. It would seem logical to me that he could play DMF, since he seems to have some defensive abilities.

It didn’t have much sense to me either that Bodmer can play both as a midfielder and central defender, but not as a defensive midfielder. However, I guess that a DM needs to have some abilities that are not the ones that defenders need. I assume they also have much more responsibility on their shoulders than the defenders themselves…

Is there anybody out there who’s either played or coached and can answer that question: If you can play CMF & CB, why can’t you play DMF? What skills do you need that the other two positions lack? Seems like DMF is a combo of both.

I can answer it John. As a DM, you have to be much more mobile, you have to cover more area on the pitch, and your often on your own. It is a completely different position, having played there before. It requires one to make challenges on your own, while as a center back, you should have atleast another defender to help out.
