“LILLYON LOSC” (sorry for the copyright infringement Inara)
By: John | June 19th, 2008
Greetings fellow readers. As Inara has been been somewhat busy lately, I thought I’d lend-a-hand and keep the ball rolling. If you’re like me, you need your daily posting like that morning shot of java, or your day just doesn’t feel right.
Lyon’s ongoing seduction of Lille LOSC’s most prized players and staff continues, as former Lillois sucumb to the “charms” of JMA. Jean II Makoun has arrived at Lyon. This is probably the second most anticipated signing of the transfer period for Les Gones, after that of Hugo Lloris, of course. Lyon won-out over several of the largest clubs in Europe for the aquisition of Makoun’s signature: Arsenal, and suposedly Tottenham and Barca were showing interset as well.
Makoun recieved high praise from both Jean Michel Aulas and Bernard Lacombe. JMA heralded Makoun as “one of the best midfielders in Europe.” Aulas also touted Mak’s skills and attributes as a player saying, “He is one of those players that has both physical strength and technique, the qualities that we were lacking this season.” Ouch!!!!I’m sure several current players felt that one. JMA went on to comment on Makoun’s “domestic and international” experience and how that fit into the direction of Lyon is moving i.e., the “CL Project.” Bernard Lacombe also had words of praise for Mak, comparing him to former Malian midfielder and manager for Lyon, Jean Tigana, as well as pointing out the CL experience that Makoun brings with him.
Mak’s contract is a 4 year deal worth 14mill Euros + 1mill in bonuses and incentives. Makoun will be reunited with former Lille teamates, Mathieu Bodmer and Kader Keita, as well as coach Claude Puel. Mak will give Lyon a bruising, intimidating, as well as technically able central midfielder, who along with “La Toule,” will give Lyon one of the best DMF tandems anywhere. As well as DMF, Makoun can play CMF and SMF and will provide a back-up with comparable defensive skill to the “god-like” Jeremy Toulalan. I personally can’t wait to see these two on the pitch together. Mak aslo brings experience in high level CL games, which will no doubt be invaluable to Lyon’s aspirations next year.
Bienvenu Chez Vous Jean!

We’re going to have such an awesome midfield next year.
Makoun, Toulalan, Bodmer, Ederson, Pjanic, Juninho, Fabio Santos…
The potential is terrifying.

Goodbye to Fabio Santos then?
You want a stacked midfield, look at Real’s: Gago, Diarra, Javi Garcia, De la Red, Sneijder, Baptista, Guti, Granero. And those are just the central players!

now we just need to strengthen up that backline and we’re set. lyon fans everywhere should be excited for next season.

Corey: Aulas said that Fabio Santos was coming back. Anderson is the one that will be sacrificed to make room for all the non-EU players (Ederson, Delgado, Fred, Fabio Santos). Juni and Cris have EU passports now.
And yeah, obviously Real will have a more stacked midfield. They are stacked everywhere. But in terms of Lyon standards, they’ve never had as much depth as they do now.
Japple: I am SO excited. Puel said that Lyon have a lot of attacking players and that the squad needs to be balanced, so he’s definitely looking into defense. So far all the players we’ve been linked with are defenders.

Bienvenue à toi, Jean II.
I think everything has been said about this signing. I’m very happy of this mercato… !
But now one question will stand by : What will be the organization next year, with all this incredible midfielders ?
What do you think about a 4-2-3-1 ?
That seems to me to be the only one solution to use everybody, with an important rotation because of all the competition we will play.I can’t wait to see that :
DM : Makoun & Toulalan / Fabio SantosAM : Keita/Govou/Delgado & Ederson/Juninho/Bodmer & Pjanic/Ben Arfa/Govou
Striker : Benzema/Fred (or somebody else ?)
What could be a 4-3-3 with this team ?
Toulalan
Makoun Ederson
Keita Govou
Benzema
???Do you think this team can start with a classic 4-3-3, and become in the same game a 4-2-3-1 ? or 4-5-1 ?
We have so complete players, we can imagine lot of configurations !In all case, that mean having a lot of great talent on the bench.

Operation: bring Le LOSC to Lyon, phase 2 complete.
Though I’m sad to see some players leave (Toto, Kim, etc.), I can’t wait for the new squad with the new coach.
I’d hate to see Belhadj happening again to our midfield. Let’s hope all of them get to play. (And Mounier, I need to see Mounier play. I’ve seen him play like once, and it was pretty good..)

Is it taken as a given that Kallstrom is leaving then? Seems a bit of a shame, and it’s always useful to have a left footed players, which our midfield now seems short of. All of the above players are right footed I think. Does anyone think there’s a possibility that Ben Arfa might stay now Puel is in charge? Would be like a new signing having him back in the team

Mounier is pretty good, besides Pentecote and Ducasse, he was the only brightspot on the disappointing French Toulon team. I was very impressed with his abilities, and I think he will be given more of a chance this year unless he gets a loan.
