Lyon Contemplate Judas Heinze Bid
By: Inara | August 14th, 2007
Gabriel Heinze wants to go to Liverpool. Manchester United don’t want to sell to Liverpool. Cris will be out for six months. Lyon desperately need a defender…
Naturally, Lyon are interested in Heinze. Just as they are interested in every other available defender on the market.

Can Heinze be a replacement for Cris?
So here is the situation. Heinze, who has fallen behind the pecking order to Patrice Evra, wants to change clubs in order to increase his playing time. Liverpool, who would like an alternative to John Arne Riise (who wouldn’t?), was willing to meet United’s €10m asking price.
Everything was going smoothly until Alex Ferguson decided he didn’t want to sell Heinze to a direct rival. So now Heinze is taking United to court, claiming that Ferguson has no right to block his transfer. He has also cast himself in the role of Judas for daring to go against the wishes of Ferguson and wanting to play for Liverpool (those bloody Scousers…wanting to steal their rival’s defensive rejects).
Perhaps to many United fans, Lyon’s possible proposal seems like a godsend. Heinze fits the profile of what Perrin wants - a versatile defender who can play both as a LB and a CB, an international, experienced at the highest levels, and not only knows French but has L1 experience.
However, I don’t think Heinze will accept Lyon’s offer. Even if we match his asking price, I doubt Heinze will want to return to L1 and take a pay cut while he’s at it. Also, he’s spent several seasons as a LB, so he may not be prepared to be a CB again.
I hate to say it, but I think Heinze will pull a Jose Antonio Reyes on us.

Heinze will join Liverpool, Lyon have Squillacci and MUller dont they? why do they want another top class defender?

Under normal (healthy) circumstances, Lyon have only three defenders (Cris, Squillaci, and Muller), so they would have needed to recruit someone anyway. Right now, Muller is currently out injured and Squillaci is just returning from injury. Paillot is a youth player while Bodmer is a midfielder, so neither are adequate cover either.

Heinze would fit the bill for Lyon. He might even push Squillaci out of the back 4 once Cris comes back…
However, as a Man Utd fan, I’m sad he wants to leave. I liked his commited playing, and he was one of the defenders I found particularly useful due to his versatility (LB/CB), meaning he could be used instead of Evra, Vigic or Ferdinand.
I think however that he’ll not agree with Lyon on personal terms, and that he’ll end up going to Spain or Italy…
So, who else are Lyon looking at ? Yepes seems to be low on Perrin’s wish list, whilst N’Dow is high (I’ll never get that one). And the media are flinging about Boumsong…

Rut Roh, Fred said his relationship with Lyon is over with and he is looking to leave….crap.

Yes Fred’s statement yesterday sounded pretty irrevocable - citing a lack of respect from JMA (not a sensible thing to say).
If it weren’t for all the other injuries and given Fred’s attitude I wouldn’t be so concerned at him leaving. But given the current circumstances…
There is even speculation that Juninho is now becoming unsettled and is reconsidering his future. Hopefully its only speculation, but you have to wonder what the remaining good players are thinking at the prospect of a season that may be well well below par.
We really need a few miracles in recruitmentPosted from

Yes, and juninho would wonder if he must stay or not, beyond l’équipe. If Lyon has good results this season, it would be miraculous. how destabilize a team with persistent tranfers rumors and the plunder of his strengh. It look like the key year for Lyon, i have the feeling that they could perfectly collapse this year, i hope they will manage to stand the test of time, and what it already looks like an unfortunate year.

The other two clubs interested in Heinze, Juventus and Real Madrid, have added to their defensive options, so I don’t think they are in the race. Maybe some other clubs though. But given Heinze’s price and salary, he would be a big investment.

JMA called up asking about Matteo Ferrari
Rosella said “Nyet” and hung up (or something like that)

Scratch that
JMA called up Matteo and hasn’t called Rosella yet
Real smooth. That’s just how you get business done with Roma. Did he not see what it took for Chivu to get them to send him away after that debacle? You can cross him off the list. Rosella will be pissed, and hell hath no fury like a Sensi scorned.

I don’t think Aulas really cares right now. He’s interested in every possibly available CB/LB out there.
Though if Rosella refuses, props to her for that. OL are looking for a guy who will willingly be benched when Cris returns. I’m sure Ferrari will not appreciate leaving Serie A for that.

I think that Heinze is not a realistic option or is Ferrari! But people are saying that when Cris comes back the player will have to sit on the bench….
The player we sign might be that good he keeps squallacci(sp) out of the team. I would gladly take boumsong on loan. That means lyon would still have some spare cash to buy another SC!!!

I think Inara is not very fond of Boumsong. And I wonder why

It’s too bad, Ferrari would shine in L1. He’s really begun to hit his stride as a player. Unfortunately, it’s a little late. He’s already 28.

I expecting big things of Ferrari, he never delivered. And to be a fan of Boumsong is to be a fan of tragedy and comedy at the same time…

heinze is the kind of player i hate to have our team play against but would love if he played for us!
but in answer to shazback and del_boy, he wouldn’t keep squillaci out of the lineup when cris comes back. and even though i’m a cris fanatic, the more likely scenario would be the new star paired with toto, and cris would have a hard time getting back his spot. they’re both great but squillaci is a smidge better imo.

Heinze might be closer to OL than we think. Lyon have asked for an exemption to the only for extra-comm players rule.

i would like to have heinze on the squad, because he brings defensive alternative to LB as opposed to belhadj and grosso. are we trying to replace cris or temporarily cover for him? because heinze could be a replacement whereas boumsong is just cover. boumsong is like a french version of muller to me. if only we had held onto berthod…

Inara, the extra-EU spot is in no way related to Heinze.
L’Equipe made (another) mistake because Heinze has a german (and italian) passport.
If they’re getting this extra spot, look to Brazil and especially Willian (Corinthians).Posted from

Corbin: I miss Berthod too. I feel like Lyon lost a lot of players they otherwise could have kept (Berthod, Cacapa, Diarra, Riou). Now Lyon are light practically everywhere. Heinze will probably not come - it’ll end up being Boumsong, I’m 95 percent sure. How depressing.
Evilo: Thanks for the correction. I didn’t realize Heinze had EU citizenship. Unfortunately, I don’t think Willian is happening. Shaktar Donetsk offered 15 million euros for him, which Lyon won’t match. There goes another good player OL could have had.

I still think people are being too harsh on Boumsong!
We will get him for free, leaving money for a striker or winger, he has exoerience playing in Ligue 1 and although he didnt do well at Newcaslte he was amazing at Juve and Rangers!!
And when he was at newcastle there whole defense was a mess, not just boum!!
I think he is the only option, ability wise and economically!!
