Lyon vs Lorient

Un-be-lie-va-ble. I must have tried a zillion times to digest the news during the week, I still can’t believe it:

THE INFIRMARY IS EMPTY .

No kidding. No hallucination either. Claude Puel announced it in thursday’s press conference, and I’m positive he was absolutely, totally serious. (I mean, it’s Puel. I know this master of fun is always ready to tell a joke or two, but on this occasion he looked really serious).

infirmière OL

The second hot piece of news -we already discussed it in the last days here- is that Makoun is now at Aston Villa where he had a medical and signed. La Toule had better hurry up his return to form, as well as Gourcuff.

Talking about Gourcuff, this is Gourcuff day today. On my left, Christian, the father, a strong character who’s been coaching Lorient for ages and is widely regarded as one of the guardians of football aesthetics; and on my right, Yoann, the son, who will start tonight in what will be his first game since early November, because of injuries and gastro-enteritis (it may also be a Maldini allergy, from which also I suffer). On one side, the father’s team is “only” twelfth in the championnat, despite a nice weapon called Gameiro; on the other, the son was the “hot” transfer of the summer who so far failed to exploit all the potential most of us seem to think he has. More relaxed now according to Puel, the collective-minded midfielder will certainly want to give all for his mates to keep going with Lyon’s current unbeaten run.
So they will both have extra motivation, and that should make for a nice game to watch, hopefully.
Please post any working links, thanks.

The Lyonnais gang : Lloris – Réveillère, Diakhaté, Lovren, Cissokho – Gourcuff, Toulalan(cap), Källström, Bastos, Gomis, Lisandro.
The Lorientais : Audard(cap) – Sosa, Bourillon, Ecuele Manga, Morel – Amalfitano, Romao, Mvuemba, Diarra – Gameiro, Kitambala.

Allez les Lyonnais!

Grenier is still unsigned along with Delgado and gassama. I was under the impression that he was gonna be part of OL's future plans. I know gassama probably isn't seen as a suitable replacement for reveillier so Im not surprised that he's not signed. Grenier has shown promise when he's played on the first team and is much more physically stronger than pjanic so I am a bit shocked that he might be gone on a free transfer.

I also doubt the clubs has high hopes as regards Gassama, but I'd be surprised if Grenier was let go. He is close to become regular first team material.

just thought you guys should know that I'm representing Lyon to the fullest on some of the espnsoccernet blogs lol we as lyon fans need to start proving to some of these know-it-alls that we do have a top side

    Hi Russ

Good to know we have a valiant ambassador there. To be honest I didn't know there was even a mention of Lyon in the ESPN blogs, I thought they only talked about 2-3 spanish and italian clubs besides the UK ones.

Damn. I was hoping we wouldn't take a clean sheet out of this one. Now it's almost certain we won't be getting any new CB's :/

  • Megame

I also doubt we'll be getting anyone, but I hope nobody's got overconfident after yesterday's game: let's remember it was Lorient, a team ranking 18th when playing away. Not exactly Mourinho's Real, that is...

  • lefutur

its crazy that Lyon are still 4th with 1 point separating them with the leader of the table. At least today's game helped their goal differential a bit.

  • Megame

It's true the race is very tight, although Lille are missing a game, so they could potentially have 3 more points, making a break with their followers.

We controlled this game from beginning to end. I am just worried by the fact we can't seem to score more conventional goals. We had to rely on 2 out-of-nowhere strikes to win this game. If we cant put the easy goals in, we will put ourselves into trouble in more important games.
But overall, I am happy. Not about the result, but the nice football we developped. A shame all the other top teams won

  • Dror

both Licha and Bastos were pretty weak, and yet it was one of the best attacking performances we had this year (mainly thanks to Kim, Gomis, Rev and Cissokho).
    very promising game.

is it me, or does it seem that aly has lost a step or too....?

i know he was quicker than this. maybe he's being more reserved this season as oppose to last year

  • aleksander

Yes, he looks a lot slower than last year...! Last year he was a bullet, he would outsprint anyone, now i see him outsprinted by more or less everyone ;: s

  • Ian Oconnor

lyon are looking very impressive today

  • Megame

It's true, even though the opposition is rather weak: this Lorient team is shy when playing away.
But still, reassuring performance from Lyon, I have to say.
