Lyon’s Pre-Season and 2007/2008 Schedule
By: Inara | June 15th, 2007It’s not entirely fixed yet, but so far, Lyon’s schedule this summer looks pretty busy. If you’re a Les Gones fan near any of these locations, I suggest you check them out! J38 – 05/17/2008 – Auxerre vs. Lyon
I highlighted the interesting matches. The derby with Les Verts is always a lot of fun, and the matches against Marseille and PSG carry that extra weight. Both OM and PSG are promising the challenge Lyon next year, and if they do, those matches could be decisive.
Also, while Lyon get to start with a home match (against Auxerre, not exactly very thrilling), Lyon’s final match is away. That sucks. I’m being an arrogant Lyonnais here, but since it’s rather likely that Lyon will win another title, it’s less fun celebrating it away from the home crowd.
Oh well, I guess I can’t have everything.
One more thing to watch out for: Lyon have a few tough away games in the second half of the year (Lille, Lens, Monaco, Marseille). Let’s hope they don’t fuck it up like they did this past season.

Hey, you, uhhhh….ummmm there are a barrage of reports coming out of France that Ederson is now an AS Roma player. The french wiki (I know I know) has him listed on the roster.
Holy shit????
If you called this I may just send you a fruit basket.
And to, uh, keep this on topic – cool schedule.
Though I would really like to draw Lyon in the group stage, if it’s possible. I’m not sure they’ll be a tier 1 team in terms of the draw next year – Roma certainly won’t be. Any idea?

Wow, Ederson signing for Roma was totally out of left field (if it’s true), so I guess the Lazio thing was just a smokescreen (+1 for Rosella). It’s not on L’Equipe yet, though if its true, it should be there soon.
I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you.
Also, it would be fun to have Roma in the group stages, but it won’t be possible, as both Lyon and Roma will be second seeds. Lyon could have been a first seed if you guys hadn’t defeated us (Grrr) or if United hadn’t passed the knock out rounds. But as of right now, Lyon are sitting on top of the second seeds like last year.

RMC Info just announced it, are they legit?
This is so foreign to me. Last year with Vucinic was nice, but Roma’s bigwigs typically don’t poach world-class talents with big pricetags out of the blue. Is this what it feels like to be a fan of a truly big club? I like it.

Ooh. I’ve been trying to figure out if there’s any way for me to get to France for the Scotland game. Now I’m dreaming about the Metz game too.

Question for Inara’s French readers: What would be the best (meaning cheap AND reliable) way to get tickets to the Scotland game and the Metz-Lyon game?

RMC is a radio show, so they are hit and miss. I haven’t seen news of it anywhere else, but Nice is a small club and doesn’t have publicity like Lyon does, so it might take a while for the news to get out.
And thanks for noticing, Salieri. It’s fixed!
Laurie: I think for the Lyon-Metz game, you might have to buy them from the club website. Not sure about France.
I’m sure my French readers will know better though (I’m looking at you, Joffrey!).

A Nice (town, not club) website is now reporting it. I’m still skeptical.
By the way, if you’re ever at a Lyon game next year you’ll have to let me join you, and I’ll even root for Lyon. I just looked at a map and realized Lyon is fairly close to the NW corner of the boot (I know I know but 1) I haven’t been to the motherland in years and 2) it’s France). But one condition, you have to let me wear my Mancini jersey.
Not that I own one, but I’d definitely buy one just for that occasion.

Has there been anything about this in the Italian media? It’s strange if nothing leaked out of Rome.
You know, I’m thinking about attending a CL match at the Gerland next year. It depends on the group stages, of course, but I would love to see Lyon in the Champions League. I’d paint my face and everything.
If you wear your Mancini jersey, we might have to take body armor along as well.
BTW, have you ever seen Roma play at the Olimpico? I imagine it must be amazing, with the atmosphere and everything.

I was too young when I went so no, and unfortunately my own pursuits have taken priority over the last few years so I’ve had to turn down too many chances to visit my friends in and around Rome. But I’ll be living in Europe from August on so I’m going to make myself a regular.
I’m pretty sure I could hold my own without body armor against the French.
The Italian media are completely oblivious to anything happening outside of the boot so only Tuttomercatoweb has reported it. But I’m very very worried somebody mistook Lazio for Roma.

Speaking of Mancini shirt, I have seen on espace-OL that Lyon is interested in this player..so maybe it won’t be at all a problem to have his shirt next year

Yeah, there were more Mancini rumors floating around. I seriously doubt there is anything to it. We already have Keita, who is a better winger, and I don’t see Aulas splashing a similar amount of cash for another winger. Maybe a cheaper one (like Camo?). BTW, can Camo play on both sides?
Chris, you’re moving to Europe? How awesome. The nice thing about that continent is that every country is another’s back yard. You’ll be able to go to so many places, whereas in the US, it takes forever just to leave the damn state.

Yes, he can but he prefers the right. And we all know how fussy he can be about getting what he wants (enjoy). And I’ll be moving late-July/early-August for work related opportunities, likely permanently. I’m excited about the move, but more so about going “home” and being able to watch true football on a regular basis than actually moving to Europe itself.
Btw, I’m sort of well-known amongst family and friends for being on my own little island most of the time, so I hadn’t even noticed you were in school in Boston. Whereabouts might I ask? I was born and raised there and I’m spending my remaining US days on the Cape.

I go to school in the Longwood area, close to Beth Israel. Basically I’m downtown.
I was also raised in Boston, but my family moved to Virginia when I was a kid. It was strange coming back here for grad school though. All these foggy memories of duck tours and Copley.

Laurie – I have no idea about how to buy tickets for France/Scotland but for Lyon Metz I think that could be possible through OLWEB (and you’d be among Lyonnais fans). However, where do you live ? Metz isn’t the easiest place to go to.
To Chris : I needed time to understand that you had italian roots, but you are right, Lyon isn’t that far from towns such as Milano and not at all from Torino (I made it many times through the motorway and I don’t think it takes much than 3/4 hours). But it’s another story to go from Roma, because not only will you need time (13h) but avoid italian permanent traffic jams and slower motorways (that’s no patriotism to say that french motorways are one of the fastest you cound find in Europe). Have you ever been to that Stadio Olimpico ? If so you’ll have to explain to me what those trees by the benches are for.

Oh I’m not sure I’ve understood everything ! Inara ? You wanna go to France this summer ??? To see France / Scotland ?

Oh, ok ! I just read everything, that was quiet long, sorry ! I’ve understood. Laurie want to see Lyon / Metz.
She can buy her places on olweb.com, actually.
But I’m not sure the OL / Metz game is the better of the summer !
If U can come for Lyon / St Etienne, you will see what a really important match is, in Gerland ! “LE DERBY” !
And I would be very happy to let U see it for free, I have tickets for OL matches. Just tell me. And so is for Inara, of course
Joffrey (now call me Jo, I prefer)

Joffrey, ces places, elles sont dans les loges ? Généralement, quand je vais à Gerland, je suis dans la loge de Colas

Thomas, my family’s from outside Torino so that’s one of the likely places I’d be coming from. But I’ll be all over the place next year, so who knows where I’ll be from time to time. But having lived in Boston and needing to make random flights to LA and stuff, I’m pretty OK with traveling anywhere in Europe. It’ll be a welcome change.
As for the Olimpico, I haven’t been to the boot since I was a kid so I haven’t been. But everyone will be sure to get a nice big post when I do.

Non, Thomas, ce sont des places en virage sud. A confirmer.
Les matches, moi aussi je les vois en loge, mais en fait j’ai un pass, je bosse à l’OL, donc j’aime tourner un peu pour changer le point de vue, selon les matches. Je suis le plus souvent en Jean Bouin et Jean Jaures.Posted from

Je comprends Joffrey, je ferais pareil à ta place ! Mais le club des 100 où j’ai pu aller UNE fois, c’est bien, même si au final tu regardes pas le match
Chris – Torino is exactly like the town I’m living in (Grenoble) though it’s by the Italian side of the Alps. Northern Italia is wealth (I probably won’t teach you anything) and cities such as Milano (the fashion city !) are even bigger than Lyon. I am sure you will love it, whenever you go.
The Olimpico hasn’t really made an impression on me like did San Siro, and if ever you have a chance to go, grab it, just to hear them yelling out SHEVCHENKO (plus he’s on his way back !).
Come on in you american guys, european stadiums are waiting for you to fill them up !

Metz wouldn’t be my first choice, but I’m hoping desperately to be able to go to France in September to see France-Scotland that week, and the dates match up. Seeing Lyon would just be an added bonus. Do you have any idea what the best way to score tickets to France-Scotland would be? Preferably without paying huge scalper premium?

Metz isn’t even a home game. Still, the opportunity to see Juni and Co is worthwhile.
