Deschamps has denied that he's had contact with Lyon and that he respects Perrin too much to ever talk about taking over Lyon. But he didn't rule himself out either, just that nothing concrete has happened...yet.

I agree with Nicolas that Lyon shouldn’t hire coaches for just one season, but Perrin was a casting mistake. Can anyone see Perrin developing in the role and command respect? Players are getting always more power, show less dedication to their clubs, and have no problem walking over a coach who can’t keep them in check.
In my opinion, we have gone too far into our management model - two strong heads (Aulas and Lacombe) and a soft coach - To the extent that only the likes of Perrin are interested in the job!
As the shrewd businessman that he is, Aulas knows how to quickly adapt to changing conditions. I think if we want to reach the next step, we need a stronger coach with broader responsibilities. That said, Aulas is a control freak and Lacombe won’t take it laying down, so that should be fun..

The Muller situation is now official - there's a statement on OLweb. The final decision will be taken at the end of the season when Muller's recovery can be fully assessed, but it definately looks like there will be no extension of his contract.
tbh I never understood why OL said they would extend his contract earlier in the season, commercially it didn't make sense. Yet to go back on their word now like this is just not a nice way of operating.

You know we always seem to be debating the managerial role and who is a) strong enough to lead (not Perrin, maybe Deschamps) but b) capable of being dictated to by the JMA/Lacombe combo (yes Perrin but no for almost nobody good). I sometimes wonder how much of a barrier to our finding a good manager Lacombe's presence is. Clearly he's very talented and has brought in some great players, but by taking away such a fundamental part of the managers role (recruitment) it instantly reduces it and neutralises the managers role. Thus making it only appealing to a second rate manager. And thats to say nothing of him having the ear of JMA on anything technical.

I really don't understand this coach situation. Last year I was astonished for Lyon signing Perrin instead of Deschamps, and the only logical reason for that was that Deschamps wanted more freedom in his work than Perrin, and it would be therefore impossible for him to work with Aulas and Lacombe telling him what do to. I'm still dissapointed for Lyon not signing Deschamps somehow, but this doesen't make any sense. If Lyon bring him this summer, and the reasons for not signing him are obviously still there, why oh why didn't we do it last year? Does that mean that we've lost the whole year just because Aulas made a mistake for not signing him earier (I say mistake, because if we bring him now it would mean that not signing him before actually was a mistake)? Anyway, if Perrin does the double, I doubt he'll leave Lyon, and if he doesn't win anything - hello Didier! :)

It was bound to happen (Muller situation). He will practically never be the same and Lyon and probably Muller himself knows it. Not to mention, it is 100% likely Lyon are going to sign a defender this summer and with the hopeful emergence of guys like Charvet, Paillot, Abenzaor, and Badin, Muller and hopefully Anderson was probably going to be the odd man out. It is weird though, that they promised his an extension then reneged.

John: You aren't the only one. I've been worried about this since the transfer window closed on Jan 31. The main option is probably going to be Kallstrom playing as a DM, which isn't the brightest of ideas, but we are low on options. I'm not sure what Lyon were thinking when they let Fabio Santos go without replacing him.

In other disappointing news, apparently the club is betraying Patrick Muller by not extending his contract, despite the fact that he's laid up with a knee injury that he got because of Lyon. If true, I'm crushed because that's not how you treat a former captain.

Zidane will go in to coaching some day, but it will be with Real Madrid. His son Enzo is in the u-16 right now, so I suppose that after Enzo gets to the u-18 Zidane will begin coaching the u-16 and work his way up. Calderon loves Zidane and has actively pursued getting him to coach for Real, which Zidane agreed to do, but a time table is not yet set. So I win!

As for Deschamps, he would be a good pick, but he has no skill in developing youth talent and he would demand for more transfers to come in, which never helps win titles with alot of turnover. Claude Puel would be my choice, he would use what we got more effectively and make a few minor changes, plus he would work on youth development, because in this world of over inflated transfer fees, youth development is going to be key in a few years to sustain a club.

Well Pape Diouf, if you can't understand him being on the bench you're dumb. It's simple, we have quite a few decent wingers, they all can't play every game...
