New Kits Unveiled
By: John | June 30th, 2008
Today, Lyon’s new ‘08-’09 kits were unveiled. After seeing the color swatches on Inara’s previous post, I was hoping that it was all just deception, and Lyon/Umbro were really going to unveil different colors for the Away and Champion’s League kits. But, my hopes were dashed and we have “three” new kits.
The new kits are: Home-White; Away-Blue; and CL-Yellow. I’m personally sad to see the Gold away kit go. I hated it at the beginning of last season, but it became an acquired taste. I grew to love it combined with the red shorts. Also, this year’s white Home kit is just a stripped-down version of last year’s. I miss the blue background on the “NOVOTEL” in the chest, and the red trim in flank areas, collar and sleeves. It looks less bold to me. The knew Away kit is corn blue. I would have preferred a darker shade. The CL kit is absolutely hideous. How they came to change our beloved black CL kit, with the florescent yellow version is beyond me. It looks like someone just grabbed a florescent yellow marker and colored the white Home kit; no creativity what-so-ever. As much as I don’t like Chelsea’s Away kits, they look a lot better to me now, with all the black trim. Take a look: http://www.umbro.fr/maillots-ol.php

I am so glad that you did not post the neon ones in detail. I don’t think I can stand another minute of looking at it.
(but if I were the keeper and I see 10 guys in neon yellow kits coming at me..I guess I would be scared)

Lyon will probably only wear the yellow kits for Champions League away matches regardless of whether they can wear the whites. As stated, the white is just an update. I won’t get it, sticking with last year’s one. I will get the blue away though. Neon yellow? Nooooooooooooooooo.

wow, what happened lyon? Should have kept it simple with black again instead of this hideous shade of yellow. I don’t think the away kit is that hot either. please someone tell me that these kits won’t be around for more than one season…

I doubt they will be. Unless Lyon win the CL wearing them. Then they’ll become vintage. But to be honest, I was expecting something a lot more hideous, and while these aren’t anything to be proud of, it’s not as bad as I feared.
Anyway, what I like about the poster is that it’s the kids – Benzema yeah, but you can see Hartock, Grenier, Tafer, Reale, Faure, etc, modeling. Umbro has a neat video on their website.

yeah i like the poster as well. it’s a funny concept with the long line of Lyon players, the balls flying around everywhere, the younger players represented, all under a very dark (and rather ominous) sky.

I agree completely with you John. Hopefully the players will make up for the kits with their performance and I will get used to these kits by just watching it too many times.

Depends, a jersey becomes cool if its eccentric because the team are good, like a a silly band name for a good band. Canary yellow isn’t a nice colour but when Brazil wear it, it’s cool!
I knew JMA wouldn’t lie down on this:

the europe kit is like a lighter version of a villareal jersey.

I love the poster! All of the youngsters modeling the jersey, now that is pretty cool. Have alot of hope for those 5 guys plus Said Mehamha, all great prospects. With Coupet gone, and Lloris and Vercoutre to battle it out for the #1, will we ever see Hartock play?

i hated the yellow ones but after seeing the video on the OL site they aren’t that bad.

my son saw them yesterday at the OL store, and says the yellow is REALLY fluorescent but the fact that all the components of the kit are the same comor keeps it from looking too gaudy.
he says the blue is the best, that the combination of that color and the fabric texture make it look very rich and classy.
as for mat’s question, a third jersey NEVER fills any real need… except for umbro and shirt retailers!

COREY: It’s a happy day. Said Mehamha just signed his first pro contract for three years with Lyon!

Yay Inara! Hopefully he will get more of a look into the team then his BFF Mourad Benhamida did…he should though, he has alot of ability. A good understudy for Mathieu Bodmer.

That’s one hell of a good poster. Not too sure if I like the yellow one just yet, but the blue one looks great – and the home shirt is a pretty neat update as well.

Here’s a great video of the unveiling of the kits, with player’s modeling them. They all look a lot better in non-photo, especially the blue. Lloris looks good…can’t wait to see him in action.

Thanks for the heads up. These are the friendlies:

- Le 19 juillet à 19h face au Rapid Bucarest à Bucarest
- Le 23 juillet à 19h face au Partizan Belgrade à Belgrade
- Le 24 juillet à 19h30 contre Nancy à Villefranche sur SaôneUn dernier match amical aura lieu le 29 juillet mais l’adversaire reste à définir.

About the friendlies, yaay! I’ve already given up hope that Lyon would actually come to Belgrade. All I have to do now is to find the tickets and think of a way to avoid being killed by Partizan fans…
About the kits, I simply want to cry. Home kit looks pretty much the same, the blue kit looks extremely good to me, but the CL yellow – absolute disaster. I loved black kits, to know they’re gone dissapointed me very much, but as I love blue kits, I was hoping they would be equally nice. Why, oh why, didn’t they make the blue ones the CL kits? With this yellow shirt, we’ll be very funny in Europe. We will look like traffic police officers, damn it!
Could someone pinch me and awake me, please?

What really surprises me about that yellow kit, is that Barca has pretty much the exactly same kit !
Look here : http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w20/gusa_tj/Mixed%20Jersey/BarcaAway0809.jpgSo I don’t think we will be funny in Europe, Nicolas.
I’m just sad because the black one was really our european Kit, in every football fan’s head.
But I don’t think all this 3 kits are ugly. Really.
Wait to see on a pitch.Posted from

PS : You can see another video (I think this one is better) of the presentation of the new shirts here :
http://video.voila.fr/video/iLyROoafYcQx.htmlFor information, name and numbers in the back of the jersey are red for the white shirt, white for the blue shirt, and black (with a very amazing typeface) for the yellow one.

That’s Alexandre Lacazette – he was with France’s U17 Euro squad

Okey, so he got contract with the A-team or the CFA ?
Inara, can i get msn ?Posted from

As far as I’m aware, he isn’t on a pro contract yet. He’s currently on Lyon’s U16 team, but he’ll probably be bumped to the next level or the CFAs. If he continues to do well, I’m sure Lyon will sign him.
I don’t really use MSN, so the best way to contact me is by email, or on skype if you have it.
