Ronald, I wanted to post a pic of that, but I can’t find one anywhere. I might just have to get a screen cap. By the way, I keep on meaning to put up a post on the tiff between the Bees, but I’m afraid to put my fears into writing. Does that make sense?

Nolan, I don’t think I can ever forgive Barca for taking Abi away from us. But at the same time, he wanted to go, and you can’t blame the guy for not holding Lyon as his dream club. It’s probably why so many of us are having issues with Grosso – it’s not that he’s so horrible, but that he’s not what we’re used to, so his faults seem worse.

We had another LB but sold him over the winter. I thought it was weird that Lyon were selling him when they had no actual back ups in that position. I mean, I’m sure Belhadj could have been compelled to stay another six months. But one of our RBs, Reveillere, can also play on the left, so I think that had something to do with it.

I’m pretty sure Lyon will get another LB though. Probably a young potential they will dig up somewhere since I don’t see any LBs who are better than Grosso (as in, both skills and reputation) coming to Lyon, given the paucity of quality LBs in general.

It’s unfortunate for Fabio Grosso that he came in to replace the best defensive fullback in the world. I think he’s a useful player and Lyon shouldn’t give up on him, but you definitely need another option – at Barca while Abidal is obvious first choice, Sylvinho has had an excellent season despite questions on his age and less than good defensive skills – he brings us another option. If Lyon can find a defensive LB I think their presence would actually benefit Grosso.

John: I think part of the reason that the subs came on so late is because Perrin – like the rest of us – hoped/assumed the game would go into ET, especially since that’s what it was looking like. In that case, the players would have been fresher. It’s for the same reason that United were slow to put out fresh players as well.

I was fuming at Perrin, waiting till the 75th minute to make a substitution. Fred and Keita came in too late. And I think Bodmer should have come in for Juninho as the last sub. Overall, It was a shame that Juninho and Kallstrom were shut down; that was the game. But Lyon have nothing to be ashamed about.

i agree with just about all of your analysis and like you say, Lyon still have a bright future to look forward to if they can keep their young stars. formation aside what Lyon needs to improve upon is their aggressivity and get that mental edge that competitors must have in the C1. a top coach is the answer. Deschamps is a CL finalist, and its because he has the right mentality. Perrin is a nice guy, and he’s smart but he doesn’t inspire the kind of fighting spirit that Lyon need to get past teams like MU, I think.
