OL’S SUMMER SCHEDULE
By: John | June 24th, 2009
Ahhhh…Summer Love, Must it Always be So Fleeting? Karim and HBA holding-up the Peace Cup Trophy
Summer is here and Lyon’s preseason is about to get underway very shortly. Aside from a pair of interesting L1 friendles(vs. Lens and Nice), this year’s Peace Cup- which Lyon will be defending as champions- will be very interesting, with several of the top clubs in Europe, entering the fray. Surely OL will have an uphill battle trying to repeat as champions this year, with teams like Aston Villa, Real Madrid, Sevilla, FC Porto, Juventus and others joining the tournament. BTW, Porto is in our intial group, so that should make the signing/non-signing of Lisandro Lopez all the more interesting.
Summer Schedule:
The squad will be back at Tola Vologe on June 29th. Then, they will head-up to Tignes, where they will train from July 2-11, the final day seeing the friendly vs. Nice.
- 11 July. Vs. Nice @ Albertville.
-18 July. Vs. RC Lens @Stade De L’Escale d’Arnas, Arnas
July 24- August 2, OL will be in Andalusia, Spain, defending their Peace Cup title.
- Sat 25 July, 20:30 CET. Vs. Besitkas.
-Monday 27 July, 22:30 CET Vs. FC Porto.

I hope that Sevilla and Lyon make it to the final. They are my second favorite team and I’m dying to play them.

Lisandro Perez ? Lopez.

According to reports Lopez will complete Lyon switch on Thursday.
Plus Ligue1.com says Lyon has 100 million to spent. Let’s hope they do better than buying Piquionne (They had 90 million to spent last season according to similar reports!).

Management need to get busy, because ideally I would like 2lb,1LW,2ST and one CB before pre season

Did Lyon end up buying that young Left back signed from Lens (Timothee K… can’t spell his name). He could be a back up Left back like Gassama is RB. Also if Reveillere is staying why sign a back up LB? A good UCL level CB is required and a UCL caliber striker. Taffer can be 4th choice. Plus if Puel switches to 4-4-2 no need to spend on LW. Just make sure Kallstrom stays. So 1 LB, 1CB, 1 ST. With 100 million to spend some quality players can be signed.

No Kallstrom cannot play left wing, for me a left winger has to be Skilfull dribbler, pacey, creative, good crosser and add goals to the team. Kallstrom ticks one of those which is good crosser-not enough at all if you play 4-4-2 the two wingers have to be out and out wingers not CMs like kall so your game turns narrow.

I agree with Ronan: Kallstrom isn’t the answer at LMF/LWF. What I see happening if we do switch to a 4-4-2 is that both Govou and Ederson will be on the wings, period; Pjanic and Keita will be the back-ups. If one of those two i.e., Govou/Ederson were to leave- which won’t happen- then I say we need a left winger- to which I would now say just keep Mounier, but we won’t get a LW. I mean, we need a winger anyway, but that would mean sitting either Govou or Ederson which would be a waste and won’t happen either. And remember, we may not even switch to a 4-4-2 because both Benzema and Lisandro can play on the wings: Benzema on the left, Lopez on the right. So, Puel may get some kooky idea about staying with more defesive positions i.e., 4-4-3 and his beloved 4-5-1. I was thinking about a 4-3-1-2 but that would mean one of the SMFs would lack pace. For example, Govou and Makoun in this formation would be side mids or central mids?

Like that formation-I think Govou would be quite good in that formation, and then have attacking fullbacks to give us the width. Govou works hard and does his share of defensive duties but obviously is also attacking so thats a pretty good place for him-Yer I like it but for the Cis-Boumsong part,I know realistically we wont get a CB but I really dont like those two at CB together,Im just always wondering where the next mistake is from them.If reports are true to there word then we should get an insite in to this Lisandro deal shortly seeing as OL presidant and FCP presidant were set to meet today.

Im getting really confused by these transfer rumours with us for the likes of Lisandro,Grosso,Camoranesi,Soumah,Santos,Ederson etc-one day the deals are imminant and then the next day there off then on,then off-dunno whats going on.

Damn, reports linking Mensah with Galatsaray-if thats true then the other centre back signing would be an absolute necessity, and for me that will leave Lyon needing to sign about five players, something which the management will be incapable to do/realize.I actually like Mensah, yes he gets injured and what have you but I feel if he was partnered with someone besides Cris or Boumsong and he stayed fit he could be a very good CB. It will be stupid to sell him, besides he probably would fail Galatasarays medical anyway.

Ronan- why would he fail medical? also i think mensah-boumsong would be a good CB pair. Santos did well in the game today, other than getting the yellow. it was the first time i have watched him play but he would be excellent for us if he played the way he did today. As for lisandro, if lyon do not pick him up it would be a major upset and loss. Management should realize that if they dont bring in a few quality players this summer and spend some money then they wont be considerred a top club for long.. being stingy won’t help the club.

govou/delgado-makoun-toulalan-ederson
lisandro-benzema*kallstrom/pjanic can sub for ederson/makoun
–delgado is a quality player and i think he would thrive at lyon if given more of a chance.

btw.. i have been following these threads for a while now and you all have interesting comments so i just figured these two posts would be my 2 cents on the topic.
- Benzema needs to stay for at least another season and we better not get Hoarau. He is not what lyon need and is not lyon quality.. i dont understand why we put a bid for him, probably as a fallback. Govou needs to stop being a biatch saying hes going to leave, because truth be told hes very good for lyon. And i know this might be way above our financial status, but we could try for Tevez. As much as i dislike ManU he is a great player who would bring great attention to lyon as well as goals. I know this would never happen, just an opinion.
– as for peace cup, lyon can prove themselves against madrid in the finalPosted from

-we dont need richard soumah, we have plenty midfielders and need to buy outer league quality st, cb, lb

Kubi: Welcome. I also think that Boumsong-Mensah pairing is quality. Cris is the weaklink and Boumsong just needs constistancy and keep his play at a high level.

When I read things such as Cris is the weak link, it makes me shiver. He didn’t have a good season last year, but I am confident we can see him come back to his best. He is also a all important leader.

POL: no doubt Cris is extremely important to the team, and he’s coming off of a serious injury at his age and that’s why I cut him a lot of slack, but I’ve seen some colossal blunders on his part this season, things I wouldn’t have thought possible from the Cris of old, had he been playing with one leg! He’s seemed to go backward s at times this season, instead of progress. That being said, I’ve never called for him to benched, as have alot of people, but realistically, assessing the situation objectively, it’s pretty obvious that Cris is not playing at the same level as Boumsong, nor probably a healthy Mensah, though I haven’t seen a healthy Mensah play at CB this season. I hope Cris comes back strong this year, and even at 90%, I’ll take him, but he needs to work on his jumping and clearing with his head, and his agility, in order to regain his old form. Cris is the leader now that Juni is gone and his presence on the field will be invaluable- if he’s not hurting us on defense. Let’s hope it happens.

Im not showung you guys this by the fact milan and co want him but did I get the price right ?????His agent says 20-30mill-are he or corinthians dizzy-leterally not even real would pay that for this guy,I thought it would be about 6mill,all he has done is get a couple of caps for Brazill and a decent season with Gremio and they think hes a world class LB ? Fucking hell I think he would be the most expensive LB in football if this is true

As for Boumsong-Mensah,I dont know on paper it doesnt look good at all but the game is played on paper.Cris wont regain his best form as hes 32 this year,so it would be quite odd if he did but yer I see keep him and sign Onyewu and Nicolas Pareja.Dont know who for Lb now because obviously Santos isnt an option.

france football.fr says Keita wants to stay, but Roma,Everton,Blackburn and West Ham are reportedly interested,I say keep him-what do we have to lose-a minimal fee,as well Keita can hardly be worse than before-for me he still can offer something,we know his talent and he has the perfect man to get him back-Puel,after all it was Puel who helped him become good. He just needs to get his confidance back, stop this lazy attitude and then be given a run at RW in the team consistantly and I feel we may see his talent.
