Peace Cup: Lyon vs. Porto
By: Inara | July 27th, 2009I felt terrible that I wasn’t able to put up a real match preview last night, but now that I think about it, it wouldn’t be much different from the Lyon vs. Beşiktaş preview. No significant news coming out of the OL camp except that Lisandro Lopez and Cesar Delgado will remain on the sidelines (Puel doesn’t want to risk their healing bodies on a friendly), and Jean-Alain Boumsong will also be getting rest.
He did say that Yannis Tafer and Jean II Makoun for starters for sure. Porto will be tougher to play against than Beşiktaş, so I expect Puel to line up a slightly more competitive team. This game will be especially important for Aly Cissokho (and Lopez, but he’s not playing) because he was a Porto player a week ago. Let’s hope he’ll be eager to show off and prove that he made the right decision coming to OL.
Given that Lyon drew with Beşiktaş, the need to win against Porto in order to win the group. If they draw or lose today, and there is a winner in the Porto-Beşiktaş game, then Lyon will also fail to progress. If the Porto-Beşiktaş match ends in a scoreless or 1-1 draw, then Lyon could still get by if they draw a 2-2. Or something. I hate coming up with these scenarios. Let’s just say that Lyon need to win.
The game will be starting 4:30 PM Eastern US time and 22:30 Central European time. This game will be broadcast on GolTV. As always, please post match links in the comments section below.

I think Cris should worry about his current level of play in L1, before he thinks of making a fool of himself somewhere else, but this is good for the future in that we will be able to replace him, bec I just don’t see him regaining his old form, and I’d hate to see him go through the humiliation of being benched, which would be tough for Puel to do.
And 15mill for Gomis? JMA’s losing his marbles.Posted from

Gomis is a OL player (OFFICIAL)

Need one more player up front, and 1 or 2 or 3 in defense, and then to sell Piquionne and Anderson.

not seen Gomis play much, how do you guys rate him? he’s certainly capable of the spectacular – and stepped up to the occasion against Valenciennes for the final game this year

This Gomis signing really seems like it came out of left field. I thought the rumors of that were not true.

I guess Gomis provides something different up front to something we’ve had in a while and will probably give us a much needed physicality up front – from what I’ve seen he can bully defenders with his physique. He’s got a relatively decent scoring record – but then again so did Piquionne before he came and look how that turned out!

Gomis for me has a lot of potential. Could be use to deviate balls to Lisandro. He’s strong. Now it all depends on the team organisation, and offensive animation (which i think we lacked a lot last year).

I still wondering: do we have a descent defense?

Lloris
Cissokho
Makoun Bodmer Toulalan
Pjanic Ederson
Delgado Bastos
Lopez GomisNo defense!

Yeah, the defence is a serious issue and really lets down the quality of the rest of the squad. I watched 10 minutes against Besiktas and there quite honestly all over the place. I don’t have a great deal of confidence for how they’ll cope next year

I really hoped Gomis was a smoke screen for Guiza. Oh god I hope we don’t have two Piquionnes.

I heard that Lyon want another striker

Gomis is a penalty box striker, strong but has bad technique. For me Remy would be a better option, I think that Gomis is an overated player.

Michael, Puel said on olweb.fr that after signing Gomis, the recruitment would end.

hmmmmmm, so we have about 4 capable strikers now ( if you wanna call ” whats-his-name ” capable ).
yet, we still need a defender ( unless we are promoting from within )

Damn, if this team won’t click then i don’t know what to do. By the looks of it from the peace cup our passing really sucks, but it does also for Real Madrid, so i’m keeping my head held high…
