Real Madrid Win Title, Lyon Win 1,000,000 Euros

By: Inara | June 17th, 2007

What? You think Lyon would have sold Mahamadou Diarra for only €26m?

LOLZ.

From what I remember, for the entire duration of Diarra’s five year contract, Lyon get paid €1m for every La Liga title Diarra wins, up to €3m total, making his total transfer worth up to €29m. It’s similar to when Lyon received €1m when Edmilson won the Champions League with Barcelona.

You better watch out, you evil poachers from Rich European clubs.

MDiarra

We’re celebrating the money your title with you, Djila!

I think it was the loss to Toulouse that started the slide. Lyon was playing poorly before then (those oh so embarrassing wins against Laon and Bayonne), but Lyon hit rock bottom against Toulouse. The team never recovered from that.

Or it could be Mancini’s stepovers….that’s enough to demoralize a team for the rest of the year.

I wasn’t going to say anything but you had to come over to the Roma side and diss il Capitano…”I’m not a Totti fan”

    You obviously have no soul.

But I am a HUGE fan of both De Rossi and Spalletti…doesn’t that redeem me just a little?

    No.

Totti is the keystone. You take him out of your equation and the whole argument crumbles.

Watch this and then tell me you don’t like him….

In all honesty the man is the modern equivalent of a Roman god. If you don’t like Totti then you can’t like anything about Roma. Totti is Roma.

My non-like of Totti has more to do with his ego than his talent.

Totti is a really talented player. I’ve never thought otherwise and don’t at all doubt his merits. Kind of like how I feel about Zlatan, Cristiano Ronaldo, Thierry Henry, and Franck Ribery.

But he’s never caused me to feel warm and mushy inside (like the way Ryan Giggs, Kaka, and Diego do). It probably has to do with the fact that he’s not a humble guy. I know Totti is Roma, but it’s also as if the rest of Roma fits around Totti, and I always have the scary feeling that his opinion means more to the management than Spalletti’s (btw, I am also unhappy with the amount of power Juninho has at Lyon).

So I can appreciate him as a player but not adore him, you know?

P.S. I know Christian Poulsen is an asshole, but Totti spitting at him didn’t help either.

No, I get it. But I have never met a great athlete who didn’t have at least a moderate-sized ego. Some just show it more than others.

It’s what makes them want to be better than everybody else.

Totti also isn’t portrayed well by the media outside of Rome due to his failures with NT until last year. He’s taken a lot of heat for that, especially the Poulsen incident (who almost made Kaka lose his cool – I can’t even imagine what that must take). It’s why his PK against Australia was such a huge deal.

And he doesn’t hold more power over the management than Spalletti, the squad would be vastly different if so. Though I do think he drove out Capello (scumbag that he is).
