Rumors, Rumors, Everywhere!
By: Inara | May 3rd, 2007This time of the year is confusing for everyone because each “source” spins a different tale regarding player transfers. Since no one at Lyon is safe from being linked elsewhere, I’m posting an updated Speculation List to clear up confusion for my readers.
This list contains every name (that I am aware of) linked to and from Lyon so far, all ranked in order of probability. I’ve also included the clubs associated with each player. If there’s a question mark, that means that they’re rumored to leave but unsure where.
Remember, these are just rumors, and most of them have no substance to them whatsoever. But isn’t that why we love transfer season so much?

Inara, this update is helpful. Thanks.
I know how much I love it when people come up with chores to keep me occupied, but would it be possible to list the playing positions of some of your potential newcomers? It would be interesting to be able to envision who would be pushed aside to make room.
Not that Lyon would DO that, of course.
*Sigh.*

I may be skipping over it, but I’m not seeing my favorite young gun Karim Benzema listed. He’s staying, right?

Laurie, I added the positions next to each name. Though I don’t know how helpful it is because it looks like Lyon wants to look into every position on the pitch.
Everyone is replaceable at Lyon, sadly.
And oops, I forgot to put in Benzema, thanks for reminding me. I added him too.

Inisghtful as usual Inara. Could you find info about whats going on with the youth setup, like who could get promoted to the first team and who may go out on loan.
Also, do you think that someone like Fabio Santos, Berthod or Diarra could go out on loan for the season? It might be a good idea for the first two just so they are playing, while diarra can put himself in the shop window if he indeed does not want to play for Ged any longer.

Duscher? Laaaaaaaaaaaaame, they can do better than him. Kaboul, on the other hand, is a gem.

Corey, I’ll try to see what I can find out about loan deals. I think Lyon will be trying to keep Riou but still let him stay at Lorient on loan for a further year.
I’m not sure about the others, but I’ll look around.
Sam, about Duscher: sometime around February, these articles popped up staying that Duscher signed a precontract with Lyon. They were from reputable sources, so at the time it indicated that the Duscher deal was serious. But I haven’t heard much about him recently, and I don’t understand why Lyon would also be trying to buy Makoun.
I agree, Lyon can do better. But I think the reason that Houllier likes him so much is because he’s a lot tougher than our current midfield options. Jeremy’s great, but he’s too nice sometimes. He’ll certainly never be a snarler like Gattuso, and that’s exactly what Lyon needs.
