Sekret Stadium Tour
By: Inara | July 14th, 2008It’s a slow news day, so while we’re stuck twiddling our thumbs for Sebastien Squillaci’s transfer to Sevilla to be finalized, here is a short, two minute video tour of the Stade de Gerland. It’s an “insiders” tour, meaning you get to see some of the VIP suites as well as restricted areas such as the locker rooms, tunnels, etc.
There isn’t much you can see in two minutes, but the video does a decent job of it. My only gripe was that I wished there had been more footage of the showers locker rooms.
Random factoid: Tours like these at the Gerland are only available for a few weeks in a year, basically when the players are on vacation. So if you’re ever in Lyon in June, you should definitely check it out, even if it’s only to leave love messages on Jeremy Toulalan’s locker.

Also, apparently Burdisso doesn’t want to play in France. I guess I’d feel sad except he’s apparently crap. So…good news then?

According to OLweb, Squillaci is at 90% Sevillan, he just have to succeed with the medical stuffs tomorrow, and Cleber Anderson is back to Brazil, loaned to Sao Paulo.

Lyon will be raking in a tidy profit from this sale. But the important question is this: is Mensah > Squillaci? If not, then profit or no profit, Lyon made a stupid move.

Yup, seems to be a drought of good young centre halfs. Giorgio Chiellini is one who hugely impressed me at Euro 2008 for Italy.

OFF topic : According to Lyon Capital, HBA and Djibril Cisse went into a mini fight during the practice…

HAhah, what a little bastard Ben Arfa is!

Jo that’s unbelievable and really sad. At least this was a chance for him to start a fresh and put all the bad blood behind him. Ignorance is the inability to learn from your mistakes right?

well there are two sources reporting this : FranceFootball.fr and Lequipe. But both of them just have a paragraph worth of story covering the incident. Hopefully this isnt true, Hatem doesnt need MORE bad press.

well I said it before i think we sold OM cancer. Thats why we were so eager and ready to give him to OM

I agree Mike – to give up that much talent without too much of a fight had to mean he was causing big problems within the club. I can’t help feeling that HBA is destined to be one of those players who will never realise his true potential, all because he’ll never mature enough to see what he’s capable of if he could just grow up. What a waste.

It was probably just a typical training clash, especially because both players have tempers and like to overreact sometimes. In this case, the media might be making a bigger deal than is the case.
What’s unfortunate about this is that it goes to show that Ben Arfa has a “reputation” now as a troublemaker, something that will be constantly picked at by the media. Player to player arguments and fights are normal, but in Ben Arfa’s case, even a peep out of him will end up in the news.

Storm, I’ve often labeled Ben Arfa as the next Antonio Cassano, another talented yet undisciplined player who could have done so much more. But Ben Arfa is still young and has time to turn it around. I hope so in any case.

Also, we now have a Monaco Offside, captained by Richard. Drop by and check it out.

JMA is a tactical genius, on par with Alexander the Great and Sparticus!! He has sold Diouf a trojan horse. I’ve been waiting for those two- HBA and Cisse- to get into it; surprised it took this long.

John: I totally agree – I guess Aulas is hoping that Ben Arfa causes OM just enough problems to keep them from being a genuine title threat. On OL System today, Bernard Lacombe was asked about the Cisse/Ben Arfa fight, and he said while he was expecting something like this to happen, he didn’t think it would happen so soon.
Yikes.

Also, it looks like Kallstrom might not be leaving this summer. Lacombe also said that he could only leave if a sufficiently high bid came in. Now that Sevilla bought Romaric, I don’t see any other club meeting Kallstrom’s 14m pricetag. So we might get to keep Kimmy.

I have mixed feelings about Kallstrom: want him to stay bec he’s the only experienced left-footed, left-sided player on the roster- the other two being Pjanic and Mounier, but I don’t want to see his price go down next season either; think this is the perfect time to sell. I don’t want to see his price plummet due to injury or lack of playing time. But I guess that’s a mute point since there isn’t a buyer anyway. I also imagine this will cause more friction in the overpopulated midfeild. I hope they loan Mounier out.

Clearly off-topic, but interesting news: “Our” Greg seems to have had a difficult start, grossly misjudgeing a ball and prompting the loss of his new team 1-0…
It’s sad, really, he can do so much better.. To his defense, after so many years in Lyon’s cocoon, it must be pretty unsettling to start in this whole new world…Posted from

Yes, sadly, it was predictable…
I just hope Hugo won’t go the same way, with us !A new defense always is very disturbing for a goalkeeper, especially when you have the language barrier, like it is for Greg.
Give time to time.

Actually, I think that’s a bit harsh on Coupet. He did make a mistake, but he could have had some more help from the players right in front of him. It happens to the best of goalies. For the rest of that game, Coupet was imperious and the only reason Atletico weren’t humiliated. Time and again he came to the team’s rescue. At any rate, most Atletico fans were pretty pleased with his performance based in comments in forums. He’ll do alright there
