Sneak Peak

By: Inara | May 28th, 2008

This image was posted on Umbro’s France website (click to enlarge). It looks like a glimpse of next year’s kit – the lion is a dead giveaway. According to Aulas, all three kits will be different for next season. Home will be white, the Champions League (third) will be turquoise, and the away will be fluorescent yellow.

Yes, fluorescent. I kid you not.

You can check out the thread on the official OL forum about next year’s kits. The last ten or so pages have some interesting (and some hideous) designs using these colors that were submitted by fans.

For now, here are two current examples of turquoise and fluorescent yellow kits:

Barcelona away.

Chelsea away.

Maybe Lyon are hoping that they will either dupe their opponents into thinking they are Chelsea and Barca or that the excessive fluorescence will cause epilepsy to their opponents.

If the kit brings some UCL luck I am in for even these colours. Personally I like the black UCL kit and the home kit kit is always awesome.

The black European kit is hot. And gold was a pretty big mistake, but still better than FLUORESCENT. Maybe the blinding effects will come to our aid..

What’s up with clubs copying old Barca jersey colours? The black CL kit is one of the first things I loved about Lyon. But if they do get rid of it I still will always have the nicest Lyon jersey!
What was so wrong with the red away kit??

Red kit from season 2006.-2007. are the best. In that kit we break Marseille at Velodrome, if you remember. Black kit for CL are the best. With black kit we make biggiest victories, and play the best game in CL. When we are black we chrused Real, Steaua, PSV, we play good game against Milan. For new kits, the blue one rocks. It’s soo cool. My favorite in blue. Yo Aulas, you are my man. Just keep Ben Arfa, Fred, Kallstrom and Benz in the team. I just can’t stop love that Lyon.

mrCham: Are those kits just photoshopped by people on the official messageboard, or are they real pictures? Pretty impressively done if photoshopped. Think the blue one looks amazing. Great news about Lloris!

Just did a bit of reading, and found out they’re photoshopped. Shame, as that blue kit would’ve been too good

Getting Lloris ahead of AC Milan who desperately want a keeper, a sign of Lyons growing ambition and stature as a club?? :D

I almost did faint from sheer happiness. You have no idea how stressful the last few days were, especially because I kept on reading goal.com against my better judgment, and they had Lloris going to Milan every five minutes.

    Phew.

except for the white one with just a pair of pinstripes on each side i’d already seen these (and lots more). when it’s just a question of rehueing an existing pic, photoshopping is easy so a lot of these look authentic.

the gold jersey actually grew on me despite having “free bowl of soup” as a sponsor. but in warm weather it’s not technically very good, the white really takes the heat and perspiration away much better and it’s not the color, it’s the fabric. the black is not so nice to wear either.

the white/yellow/turquoise rumor did come from “le progrès” who generally dig up news as opposed to making it up. but my son who drops into the OLstore every day after school has a set opinion that the new CL jersey will be silver/gray, and that would be good news for me, my all-time (non-white) favorite jersey was the gray one from 2001/2002. in any case i can’t see OL going for anything too far out, they need to keep a serious image in europe.

our away shirts generally have a 1 year lifespan, that plus the arrival of a silver one would mean the gold is gone. to be replaced by just about anything, the light blue (not turquoise) that is going around on olweb looks very convincing.

finally, white at home is a no-brainer, the only question is where they’ll put the stripes. i have an idea they’ll be horizontal.

i’m surprised they didn’t unveil the new kits in dubai, but the official unveiling is in 4 weeks.

btw, the garment in the bag in the official umbro pic is definitely an Ol garment (red herring) but looks more like a sweatshirt than a jersey to me.

    You’re right, Stanley.
On Umbro website, we learn that we discover the new shirts on 30th June, at 6 pm (french hour, of course). That’s a monday, right after the Euro final, if I remember well.
