He does look like the rock of Gibraltar. So I guess he is an upgrade over Squillaci. I'm wondering has Puel ever seen Boumsong play?

All of you seem to think bodmer was bad at center back...he wasn't very good in midfield when he played last fall either. He just needed to adjust to the squad. From what I saw he was better than Anderson most of the time. He has good clearances and is fairly good at sweeping. Not a Cris or a Mensah playing wise though, not good at one on ones. As for the youth, I think Puel just wanted to see how they faired in a real match with the rest of the team. The other generation has already proven they can.

3 center backs? Is he nuts? We have Paillot as a 4th, and Bodmer was pretty bad as a center back last year, which was partially the reason Squillaci hated life at Lyon last year. I agree with Puel that Fontaine is to young to play, while Gassama is not an alternative on the left, so that area needs strenghtening. What I dont understand is he eagerness to use Valdivia, Beynie, Pjanic or Mounier as first teamers but not Paillot, Faure, Seguin, Fontaine or Gassama? I agree defenders often need more time to learn their position, but it seems silly that because Lyon have money we do not use the best generation of defensive players we have had since Santini was in charge with Sarte, Gomez etc.

Alright, I'm off to see the game, it should really be a very interesting match. To Lyon, it's only a friendly, but for Partizan, who have a good team at the moment and very high hopes to reach the CL, it's a challenge that they will not take lightly. Anyway, I really don't care who wins, I'm very happy to attend the game and just want to see some damn good football that Lyon are known for. Whatever comes out of this, Lyon's popularity here increased drastically, and if they put some good show tonight, number of OL fans in Serbia will definetely skyrocket, espacialy because the game is not competitive and there are only feelings of respect, not animosity, towards OL. And about the stalking, well, my girlfriend lives next to Hyatt, and I'm bringing her to see the game, so I'll definely be passing by. Who knows, I might really take a peak... :)

P.S. There are rumors that even Lenny Kravitz, who has a concert in Belgrade tommorow, would sing during half-time. Allegedly the players wanted to bring him... :)

It sounds like manager buzz talk. I watched every game of the CAN and the Ghana players that stood out were Essien and Muntari, and to a lesser extent Junior Agogo. Best defense in the league, I'm not nessacerily convinced and its far from the best in Europe if he's thinking about the champions league. Bodmer ain't no centre half.

Another thing that seems to be forgotten here is that effective centre back defenses is about partnership. Cris is usually the ball winner and Squillaci sweeps. Having two ball winners is not good balance. Look at some of the better defenses. Vidic ball winner, Ferdinand sweeper. Terry ball winner, Carvalho sweeper, etc....

Tomorrow is Lyon's friendly with FK Partizan. I'll be liveblogging the game, even though it's a friendly because this is the first game that will feature our internationals who are finally ready to start playing again. Their website tells us exactly when and where Lyon will be staying in Belgrade (the Hyatt), so if you are a stalker and want autographs, you should head over.

http://www.partizan.rs/vestidet.php?Jezik=en&IDV=534

Partizan will be making this a party, with prizes for the fans. They'll also be busting out a special all black kit (which means we're probably wearing our white).

He better make us forget considering he cost two million more than what we sold Toto for.

Also, I take back what I said about Lyon not looking for another LB. Apparently Puel has reconsidered.

"Réveillère can play in that position, but that's something I'll have to consider in the following weeks. Fontaine is still too young to play at this level. Youth are good, but they still have a lot to learn, especially when it comes to tactics. Another LB should be considered because we have obligations at the highest levels. At Lille, youth were often a solution, but in Lyon's case, where far superior financial resources are available, I prefer to trust in more experienced players."

No word yet on who he's looking at, but Jeremy Mathieu is a potential target. He wants someone good enough to give Grosso some competition.

the fuckin' "rock" is right; i'm confident (barring injury) that Mensah will make us forget Toto in a heartbeat.

Inara has posted this pic before, but I think now that the transfer is finalized, it's worth taking another peek.

your right SportBoy, but also have to realize that every move that Jean-Michel is doing is for the champions league. The thing is, he isnt going to go out and say that. He's gonna be " jean-michel " about lol, he's that cunning.

Jean Michel Aulas lofted heavier praise on Mensah: The objective was to attain the best defense, with Cris, in the Championnat. It’s done! Michael Essien, who is also Ghanean, told us that [Mensah] is even stronger than he.”

I thought the objective was to make further progress in Europe. So you got the best defense in the Championnat. So what ? You already have had the best team for 7 years you didnt need the best defense every year to win it.
