Transfer Gossip
By: John | August 19th, 2008
Lens Reserve and France U18 LB Thimothee Kolodziejczak
Well, as the transfer window nears, Lyon look to bolster their defense as well as move out some “surplus” stock. On the offensive side, everything seems to be finalized, and all that is left is the anticipated departure of Milan Baros. There have been no new developments in Baros’ potential transfer and frankly, with the transfer window closing soon, I really hope Lyon don’t get stuck with 4 strikers, especially one who can’t put the ball in the net. Now, I like Baros’ effort on the pitch, but I don’t see who would want this guy except the Czech National Team. On the defensive side, there are several pieces of news:
The search for Fabio Grosso’s back-up also continues, and looks to be getting expensive. Puel had this to say when questioned about the search for an LB: “There are two profiles for this player: one is a high-level player, capabale of playing in the Champion’s League, the other, a young player that we will continue to develop.”
Here are some potentials Lyon are looking at:
Urby Emanuelson: Emanuelson currently plays for Ajax. He is 22 years old and a former Dutch U21 star. He plays LB and LMF. He has (7) goals in (85) appearences for Ajax and (0) in (11) appearences for the Dutch U21. Price tag: 7 mill euros. Hamburg is also said to be interested.
Sebastian Pocognoli: Despite his club, Az Alkmaar, proclaiming him “unsellable” untill a few weeks back, “Poco” is suddenly on the market again- for the right price of course- (5.8 mill Euros) supposedly. Most of you already know about him, as Lyon have been interested in him for some time now. But for those of you who don’t know about him, he’s a 21 year old Belgian international. He has (2) goals in (28) appearences for his club. He’s a “Belhadj” type, as he can play just-about anywhere along the left side: LB, LWB, and LW. Both St. Etienne and Fiorentina are said to also be interested.
Danijel Pranjic: Pranjic is a Croatian international who plays for Dutch outfit, SC Heerenveen. He’s 26 years old and has (8) goals in (77) appearences for his club team. Pranjic can also play all-along the left side- LB/LWB/LWF. He loves to push foward from the LB position and has excellent ball control and rentention.
Michal Kadlec: Kadlec plays LB for AC Spartak Prague. Due to that fact that he’s being pursued by Betis Sevilla, Bayer 04 Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund, and Hamburg SV, I’m sure the price tag should be high.
Thimothee Kolodziejczak: I feel sorry for the commentators! There’s not much information out there on Kolodziejczak, all I know is that the RC Lens reserve and French U18 player is supposedly loaded with talent. He’s also reportedly being looked at by Manchester United. His name has been the only one uttered by Lyon in there LB search. Lyon had entered into negotiations, but last week JMA let it be known that Lens were being “very greedy,” in their demands for the younster, and that Puel would look to other options if Lens’ price didn’t become more reasonable. Speculation as to the fee has it around 3 mill Euros. According to L’Equipe, the deal is very close to being signed, so we’ll wait and see.
And finally, two of Lyon’s youth academy product seem to be on the way-out:
Sandy Paillot: It looks like Paillot could be heading back to Grenoble. According to Le Dauphine Libere, Paillot could be back in Grenoble this week. Grenoble wants to renew his loan, and reportedly there is an option to buy. If the loan is finalized this week, Paillot will not be allowed to play in Saturday’s game against Lyon.
Romain Beynie: Beynie is reportedly about to sign with Belgian club, A.F.C. Tubize. Word is that he had a very good try-out with them, and he should be signing very soon.

Ha, after all this slagging off of Baros, he’s just scored against England today, apparently he’s playing very well and could have scored a few more

BENZEMA just scored for France against Sweden (Kallstrom is also playing, as is Toulalan and Govou. Boumsong and Lloris are on the bench).

I personally don’t care if Baros scores a hat-trick vs. England, he just does not score for Lyon. Is JMA saving all his transfer income of the last five years strictly for the new stadium? What about spending some money for a nice striker – Huntelaar, Pavlyuchenko, etc…If Man Utd sign Berbatov, they will add him to Rooney, Tevez, etc. Now that’s some sweet depth! (much as I can’t stand United…)

Our Sid scored another goal as well. So that’s a brace for him.

Oh My! Govou scored! He must be such an amazing player – how can we possibly survive without him?! Look, i appreciate his “cough” loyalty to the club and vice versa, but I’ve watched him play now for well over 8 years – he is what he is – a winger that just cannot finish plays off…If I offend somebody, well tough – that’s just my opinion of the guy.

couldn’t agree more about Govou, the guy isn’t on par with the rest of the team anymore, and for some reason he earns more than most (all?) of them.
and it seems we are heading to another year of “90% of scoring chances coming from free kicks” and we truly need a winger that has the ability to score goals if we want to win games when Juninho isn’t playing.Posted from

I’m not the biggest fan of Govou, but I don’t think it’s fair to dismiss the contributions he’s made (and still making) to Lyon. He might disappear during games, but he also scores many of our crucial goals. Whether it’s from skill or luck, he was definitely one of Lyon’s best players last season, behind Toulalan and Benzema.

Also, I just wanted to note that four OL players scored today during friendlies – Baros, Kallstrom, Benzema, and Govou. I’m so proud.
Grosso and Pjanic started their matches against Austria and Bulgaria, respectively, while Keita and Mensah were excused from the Ivory Coast’s and Ghana’s friendlies. Cameroon’s friendly against Oman was cancelled.Pjanic is officially a Bosnian player now. He can no longer represent France or Luxembourg. I tried to find a match report to see how his first international cap went, but all reports are in Bosnian. So any Bosnian readers who happened to watch the game or read match reports, how did Pjanic do?

is it me or you actually forgot about Toulalan? XD

OMG, I did! My brain is clearly melting today.
Toulalan played great today, btw. He was the one who set up two of France’s goals. He was the one who opened up space for both Sagna and Malouda (the assisters). It’s not often you see Toulalan play more offensively, but he did it very well.

To clarify a little bit my earlier comments on Govou. EVERY ONE of the players that have contributed to this run of 1st place finishes has a place in my heart forever. He has no doubt scored some important goals for us throughout the years. But am I wrong to feel that we can do better on our wings? There is no doubt that we are very strong through the middle of the pitch, from Lloris to Benzema, but what ever happened to our wing play? Malouda, Ben Arfa, Abidal…I would actually like to see OL play a 4-1-2-2-1 or even a 3-1-3-1-2…let’s be innovative and utilize our strengths…

Govou might not hit the net everytime but he puts in major defensive work and scores very important goals, first goal against Rangers last season anyone? He has great experience and importantly is a winner. Now I’m pragmatic and fully believe in improving the squad but I think there is room for rotating him on the right side with Keita. Plus I think Govou still frightens full backs when he goes on a good dribble.

My God THANK YOU Ush !
Exactly what I wanted to write about Govou. Just was lazy to do it !So may people underestimate Govou’s work.
Sure, he sometimes miss “easy” stuffs, but he’s really more important than everyone believe.
Just look at every runs he do in a game !Posted from

Govou obviously works very hard during matches, he runs a lot, try’s to win the ball, and like someone above me mentioned, he does a great defensive work.
but for a team that plays with 2 DM, you really need a winger who’s got good attacking skills, and this is where Govou fails to impress me at least.
its great to have players who play with so much commitment and passion for the club, but sadly its not enough sometimes.Posted from

Serbian, Croatian, Bosnian – it’s all the very same language. I’ll see what I can find about Pjanić…

Govou is pretty useful in the tough, physical champions league games: I’m not a fan of the guy but he does get the job done. Obviously we can’t afford to have two wingers like him on the pitch without sucking the life out of our team which is why i liked the ben arfa-govou ticket (and I’m looking forward Keitou)
Inara: what the hell is wrong with becoming a “French” Arsenal? I like the part of their strategy about having an exciting team it’s just the selling aspect I don’t understand

Revision: Beynie has been loaned to AFC Tibize, and Kolo’s deal is also a loan with an option to buy.

A loan deal? It’s for the entire year, right? At least it has an option to buy. I guess we can send back TK if he doesn’t make the grade, though I doubt that will happen because he’s supposed to be talented.

Inara, it looks like Pjanić had a pretty good debut for Bosnia. I couldn’t find any extended match reports, but judging by the short ones and numerous comments of Bosnian supporters, Pjanić was ‘excellent’, ‘technically terrific’, ‘fought like a lion’, and gave all the other teammates an example to follow. In a game that Bosnia (undeservedly?) lost, Pjanić was apparently the brightest spot in their team. Way to go, Miralem! That’s our boy!

Thimothee Kolodziecjzak is a steal for Lyon. Unfortunately the pathetic managment we have over at Lens has a noted penchant for developing the best young talent in France and Africa for the nourishment of satiated clubs like Lyon. You will love to see him attack and defend. Cheers!
