WEEKLY TRANSFER RUMOR ROUND-UP II
By: John | June 26th, 2009
The transfer rumors seemed to be slowing down, after a few frantic weeks of wild speculation, most of it, pretty outrageous but in the last two days have come-back fullforce. Next week might see OL land their first Summer acquisition and “bigfish” of the mercato, let’s keep our fingers crossed. Aside from that, we have news- credible that is- of two out-going veterans, and also a few youngsters coming/going.
In:
Lisandro Lopez: The word is that the deal should be rapped-up pretty soon. Supposedly, JMA has come close to Porto’s 20mill valuation of Lisandro, having tabled an offer of 18mill plus performance bonuses. This negotiation might have been more nerve-racking if another club were involved, but since OL seem to be the only one’s after Perez, it looks like it might get done. However, Porto are known for slapping their asking price on players from the get-go and not budging. They are hard negotiators, but the situation looks positive to me. Hopefully we’ll be having a press conference unveiling our new striker soon- It better happen because I already wrote a “Lisandro-Signing” post weeks ago dammit!!!
Mauro Camoranesi: Ughhhhhh! Thankfully this rumor is fizziling-out in the papers lately. Originaly, rumor had it that OL and Juve were considering a straight swap for the two players, but thankfully the papers are reporting that Juve is either reconsidering/retracted the offer because Camoranesi will be part of Ranieri’s “plans” now. Whatever…I think I can say with a high degree of certainty that almost no one wants “Oldman Mauro” at Gerland. Maybe if he were a leftwinger, it wouldn’t be a totally bad idea, but no more rightwingers!!!!
André Clarindo dos Santos: Talk in the Brazilian papers of Dos Santos’ possible move abroad is mute, and Corinthians isn’t making any statements until after the Confederations Cup. Still, Lyon is said to be interested in the Brazilian International, but competion for the left back could get stiff, as rumors of AS Roma and AC Milan’s interest in Andre are floating around as well. Santos is supposedly valued at 6mill.
Richard Soumah: Guingamp’s midfielder has been quietly linked with OL for some weeks now, but today L’Equipe has stated that Lyon have tabled a bid of 2.5mill for the younster. Soumah is a left-footed, left-side midfielder. I don’t know if he plays at winger, but this pick-up makes sense since if/after Mounier leaves, we will officialy be without a true left flank offensive player. Whatever formation we use, we will need a true LWF/LMF, and since I’m sure Ederson will be our starting LW, Soumah would be a good back-up.
OUT:
Fabio Grosso: As mentioned above, Grosso is hotly rumored to move to Juve, and thankfully the Camoranesi trade rumor has appeared to have disapated. Grosso is said to be valued at 2mill. That’s it? I thought Italian internationals were worth a little more. Anyway, look for a move to happen soon, becuase if Lyon is really interested in snagging Santos, the Confederations Final is today, in which Brazil is playing, and I imagine the bidding war for him might start tomorrow , and get pretty hot if he has a good match.
Kader Keita: Romors of the 16-18mill Euro flop’s departure have heated-up, with his coming out in the papers lately and stating his desire to leave due to lack of playing time and the club having lost faith in him- wow, management is so unfair!!! Anyway, this is one departure that I’m glad to see happen, though I can’t imagine what OL will get for him financialy. AS Roma, Everton, and West Ham are all said to be interested.
John Mensah: Galatasaray are said to be hot for Mensah, although L’Equipe reports that the Turkish club are willing to offer around 4mill- half the purhase price- for the Ghanaian International. This bid is obviously a slap in the face and should go away as quickly as it appeared. IMO, the only way he moves is if someone pays the purchase price or very close to it. Other than that happening, I say let’s see if he has another injury plagued season this year, and reconsider next year.
Anthony Mounier: Talk of Mounier’s departure has cooled-off, except for some rumor that Nice is still negotiating for him. If true, management better be cooking something-up in order not to get nailed if they bring Remy back, probably after next season. Otherwise, I’d find it hard to believe that they are negotiating with Cohen.
P.S.
I had totally missed in the last post, the fact that Anderson Cléber Beraldo and Romain Beynié are back from their loan spells at Cruzeiro and A.F.C. Tubize respectively.

I can’t believe that Benzema went for this low also, and wihout a player in return + the cash. I wonder if worries about the future of the economy or the probability that Real wouldn’t be throwing around cash next year made JMA panick into a sale.

In the press release, Lyon stated that Benzema contacted Aulas and stated he wanted to go to Madrid, which probably started the negotiations. I am thinking that Madrid talked to Benzema before this and convinced him that being apart of Galacticos II would benefit him in his 2010 WC quest. I honestly believe that Aulas didn’t want another Malouda/Essien/Diarra situation where they refused to show up for training blah blah and wanted the best for Benz considering he was strictly brought up in Lyon and no where else. Yes, the price is very low. Again I am assuming that United sent in their offer wayyyy before the Madrid offer and, contrary to reports, was significantly under Aulas’s preferred price. United probably never budged on their fee and then the Madrid news came today. In an effort to make Madrid increase their offer, Aulas sent out Blanc to state that yes they have received an offer from Madrid, but they haven’t accepted yet, because they have also received a better offer from an unnamed club (which probably didn’t exist). Madrid either called their bluff or was confident Benzema only wanted to play for Madrid and it paid off. Anyway, congrats to Benzema on his dream move. I am glad to have seen him play in a Lyon shirt, even if it was for only two times. Good luck.

If they sign Lisandro and Trezeguet that would help soften the blow but no one believes they will get them. Its hard to believe they didnt get a player in return when RM has a few players they dont want/need and OL could use them.

And Lille really became Lyon’s serving plate. We now grabbed Vincent Espie from them to replace Robert Duverne…

Kader Keita is apparently a new Galatasaray player:

This transfer season is looking like end of Lyon’s empire. The only team from France which would guaranteed go to knockout stages of UCL is falling apart. If Lyon fail this season, Bordeaux & Marseilles haven’t made it thus far it would be a disaster for France coefficients. Russians are right behind.
Porto are being a jerk. 25 million for even Lopez is too much. Benz went for just 35 too.
Are there other options besides Lopez? Seville look like they are ready to part with Fabiano? Why not try for Gignac as well?

This just doesnt help the cause letting players leave regardless weather it is Keita, now we have lost Keita,Juninho,Benzema, possibly Govou,Mensah and Grosso, who knows maybe Ederson as well, again its another disasterous window for Lyon, whose squad is starting to look very thin-for quantity and quality. I dont think its an exageration saying we need to sign six players desperatly. Last season Keita,Juninho and Benzema started a hell of a lot of games, they scored between them in all competitions about 33 goals(about 23 from Karim)more worringly we scored 17 cl goals last year,11 of which were by one of those three.

So as things stand in the team Im predicting 5th spot for this season, because we are way behing Bordeaux and Marseille-probs behind PSG and about par with Lille and toulouse. No CL either.Sure Aulas did well to get us this far in France and Europe, but you cannot say he has done well for the last three or four years, because we have gone down hill since, thats why I believe someone with more cash and ambition should take over,Aulas has taken us as far as he possibly can-hence we were at are peak I reckon in 05/06,since then we have gradually slipped and slipped.Does anyone know how much Galatasaray paid for Keita,I spose this means Govou wont go there-but I wont write it off.

Read on the OL website, Puel talking about they have targeted players for spesific positions, and will move for them the next few days. I have confidence in Aulas and Puel doing the right things, until the window is closed.

To be honest I dont really like Trezeguet,he just seems like the obvious candidate,he is old isnt mobile and his goal scoring touch may have left him last season when he didnt do much(injured)if we got Trez,Id certainly hope we signed another two forwards.

Reported 7mill for Keita: http://www.francefootball.fr/FF/breves2009/20090702_134046_l-ol-va-recuperer-7m-pour-keita.html
Thank God Galatasaray is around to take our flops of our hands: first Baros, now Keita.Posted from

Van Nistlerooy an ideal replacement for Benzema ? RVN-33,KB-21. RVN a feed-off-scraps predator targetman,Benz a pacey flair, versatile forward. Benzema-35mill,RVN-4mill. Cannot see how he will replace Benzema. We should sign RVN as well as Lopez and Remy(but the latter are becoming more unlikely each day)Also I realised Diego Lugano is a free agent-he is a solid CB for us.

In “leprogres.fr” (lyon’s newspaper website) Aulas said that in Madrid benzema’s salary will triple! And he sold keita for 8.5M. I think that now that three of the most important salaries of the team are gone plus the money we got from the transfers of Benzema and Keita we should be able to attract some stars. I hope so!

Its a shame that lyon want to sign rvn and trezeguet as substitution for benzema. Why do we not try to sign players like Luis Fabiano,Lisandro Lopez,Luis Suarez or even Keirrison and not some oldies who cant play real football anymore?WE HAVE THE MONEY TO BUY A REAL STAR!

why wasnt this done last week, when Lopez was cheaper and more available. It doesnt make sense,Lyon knew that if Marseille signed Lucho, which obviously they did,the likly hood wood be Lopez would either cost more or not be available at all. Its just strange really had Aulas gone to Porto last week with 20mill Lisandro would be ours. Completely doesnt make sense to me,why this wasnt done earlier.

My view is the same as yours exactly Theo walcott,I hate Lyon going for these former profiles. RVN and Trez are two semi legends of football, but both are a shadow of what they were, and both were injured for 95% of last season-at 32 and 33 they wont offer much, signing a prolific 20-30 year old would be much more benaficial.

We should take a leaf out of Marseilles book. Diawara,Fomena,Cisse,Mbia,Lucho and others are pending signing. OM are starting to build a really decent squad as well as a good coach, expect them to reach the last 16 of cl next season
