Do You Hear That?
By: Inara | June 3rd, 2008*crickets*
Exactly. Total silence.
This exact time last year, Lyon had so many players whining about leaving (Tiago, Florent Malouda, Eric Abidal, Fred, Alou Diarra). Some where considering it (Juninho, Kim Kallstrom, Gregory Coupet, Remy Vercoutre) while some others were forced out of the club (Jeremy Berthod, Sylvain Wiltord, Claudio Cacapa).
This year…there’s barely any noise. Hatem Ben Arfa asked to leave, but now that Alain Perrin looks to be booted, he’s been reassuringly silent (maybe he’s waiting to see who the next coach is). Anthony Reveillere may leave if Lyon can’t guarantee him significant playing time. Patrick Muller was shown the door, and Kim Kallstrom and Cleber Anderson might be as well, while Gregory Coupet is leaving/retiring with our blessing. Sidney Govou and Fred are once again just angling for better contracts.
But that’s it.
My fellow gones, enjoy this rare event. Could it be that for once, we have a team full of players who actually want to be here? Well, at least for right now - summer’s only getting started. Perhaps after Euro 2008, when transfer muppetry is in full force, things will be back to normal.
Oh, and before I forget, I wanted to mention that there is a Euro 2008 predictor bracket going on. You try to guess how the groups will finish and predict which teams get to which rounds of the tournament. You get points for correct guesses. There are lots of prizes to be won (jerseys, vouchers, and even a pair of Nike boots), and anyone can enter, so check out more info here.

It’s great isn’t it! I hope that should any of the players have a good Euro 2008 they don’t let it get to their head. Benzema and Toulalan seem to be very level headed and content to stay longer - so I hope that doesn’t change now. I’m getting a bit distracted by reports Lyon are lining up a bid for Fabiano should Benzema or Fred leave, however I’m sure taking Fabiano over Fred wouldn’t be a bad deal. I should stay away from reports though over silly season because you just never know what’s true. Would be disappointed if Kallstrom left, but it would be unreasonable to keep him should Makoun join - leaving us with a midfield selection of Toulalan, Juninho, Ederson, Makoun, Bodmer, Pjanic and Kallstrom - which is pretty amazing really! I would like to see Lyon either keep Remy or look at more striking options, as should either Fred or Benzema get injured then we’re relying on one striker to choose from which will cause a lot of problems. Or do people think the likes of Delgado, Tafer would be able to fill in?

OMG!!! I just read that on goal “Euro 2008 Team Profile: France” : “Jérémy Toulalan: With Patrick Vieira increasingly likely to miss the tournament his deputy, Jérémy Toulalan, will have the chance to shine on the European stage. A tragically underrated destructive midfield player, Toulalan will be expected to act as a counter-balance, along with Makélélé, against France’s very offensively-minded attacking-midfielders.”
If people in England stop looking down at players not playing in their Premiere League, we are bad: OL will be definitely stolen.
On the other hand I was so happy to see somebody (outside of France) able to appreciate Jeremy’s qualities that I have to post it here, sorry!Posted from

I forget: there are finally rumors… about Italian clubs interested in Grosso: Juve, AS Roma & Fiorentina…impressive, maybe OL will have to look for 2 LB…

I’d prefer Santos to come back than us to take Makoun. Makoun is a great player, but I would feel bad to have to bench him. We mustn’t overdo our bench! It is already a shame to bench Santos. But he has a very different style from Toulalan, and whoever is the coach next year would have a great option with those two different profiles. You could also use Santos in the end of games as he is very physical and likes to make runs forward. He would be very useful if Lyon were running after the score.

Finnaly Lyon will have team together. No one will leave club ( maybe Reveillere or Kim ), but Lyon need service of Kallstrom. He is such loyal and faithfull player. We just need him. Do you look how he was happy when Lyon just score a goal? Also we should keep Fred in Lyon. He is good guy. I was soo happy when I saw him celebrating victory in French Cup. Reveillere is very good, but he need more confidance. For Ben Arfa I don’t have a wor. I just gone say : Damn we must keep that world-class talent. I tink that Fabiano is better than Fred, but he is too much over respected. He can do lot of damage to club - he like to fight and argue with other players or with ref. We don’t need that kind of player. And one more thing: Why we don’t try to buy Amara Diane, he is such a good player, fast, hungry for goals and glory.

This article really has me worried. Saying that Aulas has received a €40million offer from Barcelona, which he is willing to take on as he doesn’t think he would get as good a price in the future. Would be distraught if this is the casePosted from

I wouldn’t worry. Benzema isn’t going anywhere this summer because 1)Benzema doesn’t want to leave, and 2)40m euros isn’t a lot. Chelsea offered 38m a while back and were turned down.
This article is just intox.

Article about Wengers wage problem signing Nasri:
But that has not happened and Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is resigned to waiting until the 20-year-old returns from international duty before the deal can be finalised.
“Nasri interests me,” stressed Wenger, “I hope I will do it [complete the signing] after the Euros. It is more complicated now because the wage differences [between the Premier League and Ligue 1] are not as big as they used to be.
“Just look at Karim Benzema. He is 20 and recently signed a new deal with Lyon.”
Hmm, even to my jaded eye, a glimmer of hope for ligue 1 keeping talents??? Lyon beating AC to Lloris, surely not!!

If Roma want Grosso, I propose a Grosso + 5m exchange with Mancini.
With Keita leaving (I hope) we would have a versatile player who can play as a LB back when needed.Posted from

The crickets are a welcome noise…
Last year, i was getting so pissed about Abidal and Malouda leaving that i accidentally yelled at my mother. The i apologized…

I want to say : Are you crazy or wath?

Because I think he is simply not good enough for the team.
Because his dribble times are awful, Ben Arfa is a genius compared to him.
Because when he is on the pitch, I don’t see anything really positive coming from his presence. He should have received several red cards this year, not counting the insults to other players.
Because since the beginning he always claimed that his goal is to play in a better club than Lyon. And never showed any attachment.
Because he cost us a lot of money, and that I think we should sell him before he loses all his selling value. And I have many other reasons why I hope Keita will be sold this summer.

Keita was only purchased last summer, and while he didn’t have a great first half of the season, following african cup of nations, he was on fire. his dribbling and play may be selfish at times (as is ben arfa’s), but he has huge potential.
and why do we want Mancini?

Btw Inara, there have been some changes in roof design of OL Land as of 28 May. It looks like it’s intended to save costs due to high steel prices recently. As a result, at least to me, the new roof design is worse than the previous one(I’m not sure you’d feel the same way)
Why don’t you check out the first 5 renderings marked bold in http://ol-land.olympiquelyonnais.com?

Keita did have a poor season. He always looked good but his finishing was not anywhere near the level for a top team in eroupe. Maybe he is just settling in and needs another season.
Mancini is not that bad. He scored double what Keita did and thats including 2 CL goals. He is pretty creative as well and has a great touch, also as far as dribbling remember what he did to us. But he is not as physical as Keita. I would’nt mind if they did that sort of deal, but really Keita has got alot of potential. So he should probably stick around.Posted from

I don’t want Mancini. No thanks. I’d rather keep Keita.
Mancini is a diva like Fred. I don’t want more bad personalities.
