LYON BRING-IN THE FIREPOWER!!!
By: John | July 15th, 2009
“LI-LO” Is Lyonnais, It’s Official.
Today, Lisandro Lopez was unvieled to the public in a press conference after his transfer arrival from FC Porto. Lisandro arrived in Lyon Saturday, after a weeks of negotiations and JMA caving-in- much to my chagrin- to Porto’s extortionary tactics, Lyon have finally netted the prolific Argentine international striker for a reported fee of 24 mill with performance bonuses of 4mill. That tops the hitherto club record for incoming transfers, held by Sonny Anderson of 18mill from FC Barcelona in 1999 and the deal is the second most expensive incoming L1 transfer ever, a record set by the purchase or Nicholas Anelka by PSG from Real Madrid for the sum of 34.5mill. Lisandro’s said to have penned a five year contract with OL, details of which haven’t been disclosed.
The first signing of the mercato is undoubtedly the most important and probably will remain the most important for some time to come. Why? For those of you who don’t know, the diminuitive striker is the real deal. Although not a household name, “LI-LO” as I have christened him, made a real name for himself last season in Europe, by ending-up the fourth leading scorer in the Champions League with six goals. He finished in fourth place, just behind Lionel Messi, Steven Gerrard, and Miroslav Klose, and ahead of world class strikers such as Alessandro Del Piero, Robert Van Persie, Thierry Henry, and yes, our own(back then) Karim Benzema. He also finished second in shots on goal with twenty-three(23), finishing just behind Cristiano Ronaldo who fired thirty-four(44).
This signing is a major coup for several reasons. First and most obvious, it fills a scoring void- more like scoring black hole- that emerged after Benzema’s departure for Real Madrid several weeks ago. Also, we replaced a word-class player with a world-class player. Usually we replace superstars with very young talent, but Lopez is ready to step-in and take-up exactly where his predecessor left-off. Finally, Lopez is a bulldog, and all he sees on the pitch is the goal. We have a bullish scorer for the future, and hopefully if we recruit a more creative striker to play in support, we will have a scoring duo that will terrorize defenses. If JMA does get Andre-Pierre Gignac -JMA’s still working on roping-in Loic Remy, Gignac, and Aly Cissokho after bagging Michel Bastos yesterday- he should recieve an infallibility akin to that which the Pope enjoys inside the walls of Vatican City. He will be immune from any and all criticism for the rest of his life!!!! You hear that Ronan?
Lopez is a tiny striker(1.68m) high, but what he lacks in height, he more than makes-up for with his stout and powerful body, his highly superb finishing ability, and the fact that he plays with more heart than most of his taller contemporaries. The Argentine international is a prolific goal scorer: in four seasons with Porto, he’s found the back of the net fourty-four (44)times in ninety-seven (97)appearences. In his best season (2007-08), “A Licha” burried twenty-four (24) goals in twenty-seven(27) appearences, taking the Portuguese Footballer of the Year Award in the process.
Aside from Lopez’s physical attributes and skills, he is also a winner: Lisandro has won the Portuguese Liga Title four times with Porto, won the Portuguese Cup twice, and the Portuguese Super Cup once. His personal achievments include winning the aforementioned Portuguese Footballer of the Year Award in ‘07-’08, and the designation as Top Scorer in A Liga Sagres that same season.
It’s definitely a great day for OL fans.

Finally, now we need a striker and CB. Aulas is doing a good job

He’s doing an awesome job, he’s making us one of the best teams in europe! This is one of my happiest summers ever regarding lyons transfer window!

If we pay so much money to get Cissokho, then it means Grosso is out. I don’t see the point in keeping two LB of this level. It will never work. I guess Grosso’s salary could also allow Lyon to sign a bigger gun as ST.

By the way, I just read Barca ask 6 millions or Gudjohnsen. Gudjohnsen is the player we need. He has very good experience, is a great striker although not having been used so much by Barca. He would do great in Lyon. I value him more than Gignac.

I reckon though Grosso doesnt have that many takers-unless Lyon release him, which obviously they wont, then he will be here on the bench all season I think.Having Cissokho and Grosso is a luxury-Grosso should leave,as Kallstrom,Bastos and Kolo can cover if Cissokho cant play for one reason or another.I dont think Grosso has that bigger salary, about 2.5 mill a year-which I spese is big.

SHIT,just 5mil€.:(Posted from

Yer I think Gudjohnsen as well he would be very good, but we would then have to sign some one like Gameiro or Remy-players with pace because Gudjohnsen isnt fast and Lisandro is average to quick paced so Gameiro for pace. And with the way we have been throwing money around recently 6mill for Eidur seems like nothing.

That 5mill for Lucio would have been the best signing of the market for us-mind you we would never have beaten off the competition of Inter.Still there are good CBs out there-Tamas,Juhasz,Apam,Diakhate,Sarr,Hangeland etc, etc.

A lot of these players like Lucio probably wouldn’t come to Lyon… The Gudjohnsen option seems like a very good possibility for Lyon value wise, but it seems like Aulas has his targets set on a younger targets with Gignac and Remy

^^^^I agree with Aulas. It is far more better that we sign a young, good player and a future star than an old, good player and a former star.

Thanks Dror. Good thing someone recognizes genius around here, LoL.
JMA is getting raped by this robberbaron Costa de Pinto. Instead of just offering 15mill for Aly which is outrageous, bec no one is going to pay that this season, he has to give back 20% of future sale price back to Porto? He’ll probably never make any money on a future sale, even if the guy does live-up to his price tag.
Did you guys see that Barca picked-up Maxwell from Inter for 5mill I think?Posted from

John, who knows. How the prices rise in the last few years i think that Ronan now would cost 2mil€
.And if it continues then in a few years every solid player will cost 20mil and Cissokho 50mil,lol.Posted from

Yer but if it was a choice between Lyon and Barca 90% of players would go Barca-he is more affordable but not as good as Aly.Anyone know whats happening with Bastos this evening ?

RONAN,I thought 99.9% would go to Barca.Who are those 10%who would choose Lyon over Barca?
Posted from

-

no one-If I was a pro Barca would be the number one place to go-actually I dunno Barcelona is beautiful but I would probably try and go to Palermo or Olympiakos-Sicilly and Athens-Very nice.I think Bastos is signing his contract and doing his medical today.

I think Bastos is a Lyon player officially.

Bastos- signed,sealed delivered hes ours

It is great that we signed Bastos.I just hope that he will not be the new Keita! He is a great Juninho successor for the free kicks. Now with Li-Lo,Bastos prolly Cissokho all we need is to buy a CB and ST and then we are at least in the CL semifinal.
Also,I was reading some old posts and does someone know what happened with Nikola,Sidney Govou or Will, why did they stop commenting on this blog? Are they still alive

Hey, I haven’t dropped off! I’ve been on holiday in Montenegro and hell, there are so many transfers going around that I can’t believe my own eyes! We signed Lopez, Bastos and Cisokho and it looks like there are going to be more of them coming soon – splendid news for a Lyon fan when he returns from holiday. And no, I’m not French, but I guess all the Europeans prefer july for their holidays.

Nikola:
