Lyon Say to Juventus: YOU IS A LIAR!!!!!!!!!!

By: Inara | January 25th, 2008

boumsong1.jpgWow, I didn’t think it was possible, but Juventus have hit another low. I mean, yeah they like to match fix and win imaginary penalties and otherwise engage in sleazy transfer dealings. I can forgive all that. But as for their latest bit of unclassiness over the transfer of the equally unclassy Jean-Alain Boumsong to my team?

Juve, I hardly knew ye.

I suppose I should start from the beginning. For those of you who follow this blog, you’ll know that this is the first time I’m writing about the always-looming transfer of Boumsong. I’ll be honest. I don’t want him. I don’t care if his suckitude is overexaggerated. I don’t care that Lyon’s current defenses are in shambles.

I. Just. Don’t. Want. Him.

We are getting Cris back soon (hopefully), so technically Boumsong would only be a backup. But at 28 years old, it’s not like he has a bright future. What Lyon should be doing is finding a young player who actually has potential. Real potential. Not the fake, misleading kind that leads to a career as a Chuckle Brother. Call me harsh, but that’s how I see it.

Anyway, Lyon and Juventus agreed to a permanent deal regarding Boumsong, with the purchase price set at €3m, which is €3m more than what Boumsong is worth, but I digress. With details already decided, Juventus asked Boumsong to play in their Coppa Italia match against Inter before leaving. Lyon didn’t want to agree because they need a defender RIGHT NOW, but Boumsong wanted a goodbye match (he also scored a goal that night). The next day, he arrived to take his medical (Lyon were determined to have Boumsong available for this Sunday, so they sent a private plane to pick him up after his game).

Aulas loves French internationals…no matter how mediocre.

However, Juventus put the deal on hold at the last second because they don’t have a replacement yet (aka they’re retarded and didn’t get the Olof Mellberg deal sorted out). Since Zdenek Grygera is suspended for the second leg of the Coppa match, Juve don’t want to part with Boumsong in case they need him to play next Wednesday. Keep in mind that Juve had already given both Boumsong and Lyon their word that the transfer would be finalized yesterday. They had even hammered out a detailed contract that should have been signed Thursday afternoon.

This is not how a professional club operates. Because of Juventus, Lyon halted looking for another CB in the past few days because they were under the assumption that they were going to get one by the end of the week. And now with a very important game three days away, one that Lyon have to win because Bordeaux is only three points adrift, Lyon might have to line up a central defense of Sebastien Squillaci and Sandy Paillot (whose entire L1 experience comprises of 45 minutes) in not just any game but their derby!!

Lyon were so furious that they posted an announcement on their website which basically denounced Juventus as liars that have no class. Marino Faccioli, the club’s administrator, said that in his 30 years working for Lyon, he never saw a club behave like this and hadn’t expected it of a club of Juve’s stature. Lyon have also said that if Juve don’t come to their senses by tomorrow, they will look for options elsewhere.

I’m sure many will say that I shouldn’t be so surprised (I should mention that aside from this event, I have no hard feelings towards Juve. Not being a Serie A follower and blissfully unaffected by Calciopoli, I don’t have the strong opinions that others do about Juventus. At least I didn’t… ). But it’s not funny when you have only one healthy central defender. However, I will admit that part of me would be glad to see this deal fall through. I’m of the opinion that Juve need to be taken to court for deception, fraud, and theft for passing Boumsong off as a defender.

If Juve sold Boumsong to Lyon, they too would be left with only one option in the centre of defence(Legrottagile….how do u spell his name???).

The good news is that Bodmer will be okay for the derby.
And so will Govou. But we cannot know yet about Juni.

If Lyon finally buy Boumsong, with already Cris, Squillaci, Anderson, Muller, Bodmer and Paillot in the group… Lyon will probably sell defenders to half european teams next summer !!!

Juve and Inter are bastards when it comes to transfer dealings, so I am not surprised. But this is good, because know one wants Boumsong to come to Lyon anyways. Lyon have tabled a 15 million euro bid for Ezequial Garay of Santander, which wont work because Real have him wrapped up already.

Lyon should of had a backup plan regardless of if they has or will sign Boumsong. Juve were an in obvious jam just having one center back available and were lucky to get out of Milan with a 2-2 (ironically Boumsong scoring the crucial equaliser). Juve had a backup plan with Mellberg and Barzagli, but I have no clue what’s going on there. To sum it up, I have no problems with what Juve did, I mean this is Boumsong were talking about. Also, Lyon need to step up and spend that money they got from Tiago, Diarra, Abidal, and Malouda on a class defender. After adding up all the transfers in and out, they should have 20m+ euros left.

Guys, don’t take me too seriously when I said that this is the worse thing Juve have ever done since obviously they have done a lot more illegal things, but man, it sucks when it’s your own team. Jao, Lyon do have other transfer targets, but they weren’t negotiating with them in the past few days since they were about to sign Boumsong (that by itself takes several days).

The thing is, I have no problem with Juve wanting to keep Boumsong. I’m actually surprised they were willing to sell him (in fact, it seemed an indicator of how little they wanted him since they were eager to get rid of him despite not having fit defenders available). But didn’t they realize this even last Monday or Tuesday? It’s not only cruel but also unprofessional to recall a player just as he’s about to put pen to paper simply because Juve management were too shortsighted. We all know that Juventus’ word has little weight in the world, but it’s like, why would any club want to do business with them?

Hey guys chill out… Maybe with the news of Buffon’s latest injury our guys got nervous and didn’t want to see another CB go. I’m truly sorry on my behalf if in fact we did have a contractual agreement and we suddenly pulled out. If that was the case, then you’d have reason to file a complaint with FIFA and I’d imploy you to do so.

I actually feel bad for Boumsong! He dedicated his last goal to Juve on Wednesday, said his goodbyes, packed his bags, put his house on the market, and all that stuff. The worst part is that he might not even play in the game Juve want to keep him for.

Roberto, I think your management is increasingly confused. Juventus had all week to back out so waiting until the last second is just poor planning IMO. It would be one thing if Juventus suffered a last minute injury to their remaining defender but the situation didn’t change in one week, which is why Lyon are so miffed.

I’m guessing Lyon expected better treatment from Juventus after they went out of their way to make the Tiago deal very easy to complete.

Lyon are really mad about the boumsong delay apparently. It’s all over the French media. Something more must happened than just Juve changing their mind at the last minute (since that is legal) or else Lyon wouldn’t be so upset.

Here is the article from goal.com:

Lyon Furious As Juventus Dither Over Boumsong

There are reports in Italy that Juventus may have scrapped the deal to send Jean-Alain Boumsong to Lyon. The delays have upset Lyon to no end.

The defender had all but signed a six-month loan-deal with the French champions, with an option to make the move permanent at the end of the season.

However Juve’s defensive crisis may have made the Bianconeri think twice about letting the 28-year-old leave.

With Giorgio Chiellini, Jonathan Zebina and Jorge Andrade all injured, and with Domenico Criscito having been loaned out to Genoa, Juve currently have just one natural centre-back available in the form of Nicola Legrottaglie.

Lyon sporting director Marino Faccioli has admitted that Boumsong’s move has encountered some problems, and has launched a scathing attack on Juventus for their conduct in the matter.

Faccoli believes that the reason the move has stalled is because Juve are struggling to find a replacement defender.

“Juventus are pushing back the deadline of the transfer having given their agreement,” he said.

“The player accepted to play for them in Milan on Wednesday in return for the commitment of the Juve board to put things in place that would allow him to play for OL against St Etienne on Sunday.

“Juventus are waiting to bring in a new signing. It is an attitude I have never seen in my 30-year career.

“The whole deal is in jeopardy and the situation seems a little cruel. Boumsong was very professional for Juve on Wednesday and now they have thanked him by shutting the door.”

Boumsong came on as a substitute on Wednesday night to head home a crucial equaliser in the 2-2 Coppa Italia draw with Inter at San Siro.

The defender labelled the goal as a leaving present to all the Juve fans and expressed his love for the club and how sad he was to be leaving.

“I love this shirt, I love Juve,” declared Boumsong. “I gave everything for the team and now I am somewhat sad. Life is strange, if one day the Bianconeri were to ask me to return, I will do so gladly.”

It seems that Juventus may have waited less than 24 hours to ask Boumsong to return, and he could go straight into the team for this weekend’s game at Livorno.

This could prove to be an astonishing u-turn by Alessio Secco and the Bianconeri hierarchy, who are still hoping to snap up Olof Mellberg before the end of the transfer window.

Lyon have apparently offered 15m for Garay, though I don’t know if we have a realistic chance of getting him if both Liverpool and Madrid are after him too. Pocognoli looks unlikely to leave Alkamaar this winter.
